Motto’Have gun will travel’ was a must for the Circuit Rider. They had to fend for themselves, Hunt, fish and protect. They were not the spineless jellyfish that is sometimes portrayed. Another Great video Santee
Much appreciated!
That's my motto too! "Have Gun....Will Travel!" 🔫🤠
@@chrissewell1608 Paladin was a "circuit rider" he traveled to wherever he was needed. Sometimes he had to use his guns to defend his life or the life of another. Those guns were only used as an absolute last resort. He could also quote from the Bible. But he was not a preacher.
This made me think of the scene in The Cowboys when the one kid goes "Im Charlie Schwartz. I'm Jewish, my family has settled in every county in the territory." And always loved Preacher in Pale Rider. 🙂
Thank you!
This is interesting, my great grandfather was a cowboy but then later became a reverend.
That's cooL!
Sounds like Ray McCall from the call of juarez games. A cowboy turned into a reverend of the town he lives in
Pale Rider
@@ArizonaGhostriders would a cow boy in the old west have carried a Bible in his saddle bags
I thought I would ask this question
@@eliotreader8220 He sure might have!
Never hire a stunt double that can wollop you when you only have a buck. Love this episode Santee. Can you do an episode on preachers?
-Nick in Prescott, AZ
LOL! Yes.
Being a preacher myself I have been waiting on this and one on preachers playing the part... Wonder how they dressed...
This reminds me of how when I'd encounter priests outside of the saloons preaching the gospel in RDR, I'd always knock them down and they'd run away right before coming back and fighting lol
LOL!
“We will be reading from the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke…and Duck!”
HAHA!
A Western is hardly complete without a Parson of some sort. Best of Days to all the Ghostriders.
Thank you!
Great episode Santee! Your hard work is appreciated!
Glad you enjoy it!
I spit out my coffee when you showed the first congregation, Rock Ridge from Blazing Saddles.
Yes!
Great video, guys! This was very unbiased which is admirable. As a devout Christian I can't say I would've been this unbiased haha
It was tough not to add my own opinions on the matter, but, hey, it's not about me!
Same
Another excellent video Santee, well done!! Religion was huge in the union soldiers/federal army during Civil war/ old west when before every time they rode out got a "blessing". When I started researching my ancestor, I found out his mother was a Muslim and was abandoned my her family for falling in love with a Christian and falling pregnant with his child, they married by a preacher, but she keep her faith, and he had his. Religion was used by both good and evil men to further thier own agenda, which in its own had good and bad outcomes, but for religion we all would be worse off.
Great points.
Religion keeps men from eating each other. The golden rule is the key to eternal success.
Wow, The Frisco Kid... you really have a great sense of humor, Santee. That's an underrated classic!
Classic
This has me thinking of Porter Rockwell , the Danites, and the Avenging Angel cut downs of the cap and ball revolvers.
I do want to do one on Porter Rockwell and his pistolas.
Who needs faith when you have a stunt double
Best quote ever
LOL!
The gunslinger turned preacher/bad guy trying to reform trope is one of my favorites. Preacher from Pale Rider, Cort from "The Quick and the Dead", John Marston and Arthur Morgan from games like "Red Dead Redemption 1&2" and Reverend Ray McCall from "Call of Juarez:Bound in Blood"
Yes!
Robert Mitchum kept a gun in his Bible. 5 Card Stud.
Give me that Old Time Religion. Another great video Santee 👍
Much appreciated!
Gotta love the Frisco Kid movie clip! Great video as always, Santee!
Yes! Thank you!
Great episode. Started my morning with a laugh.
JT
Good!!!
Thank you, and God bless. This video Was a Blessing and Teaching.
You are very welcome
An excellent topic for Saturday mornin', thanks Santee
You're welcome.
Here in West Virginia, in Logan County we had a Mountain Preacher, William " Uncle Dyke" Garrett. He more or less travelled through the mountains preaching and baptizing( He was a follower of the Stone-Campbell Movement aka Christian Church/Church of Christ) for 50 years. When Devil Anse Hatfield became a Christian, Uncle Dyke was the one to baptize him.(Garrett considered it the highlight of his ministry as he got to "Baptize the Devil").
That is pretty neat! Baptized Hatfield!
Good show! God bless buddy!🙏🎚🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
Same to you!
Great, Santee. Just out of curiosity, there was a religious civil war in Brazil called War of Canudos (1897). Government troops were assigned to destroy a village where poor people gathered around a preacher. But they resisted four battles. There's a big brazilian movie about it called "Canudos".
Interesting. Thanks for letting me know!
That scene from Blazing Saddles still cracks me up.
Yep!
Let's pray 🙏 🤲 🕍 in God we trust in the old west more than never. Great vid has always you guys are a encyclopedia of does great time in history. Have a great weekend amigo Santee/ghostriders.
Thank you!
Great video Santee. Covered it very well I'd say.
Just feel bad for how you ended up at the conclusion. Hope you recovered.
Yep
And another Great video Santee! "Put your finger in the light socket and feeeeel the presence of the LORD!" 😄
Love that!
Yeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Great video, Santee, and I appreciate the clips from Blazing Saddles. But you should've included the preacher's line, "We will now read from Matthew, Mark, Luke...and DUCK!"
--Desert Rat Rick
I originally did, but it had no place in the video, so I left it out.
Amazing video as always thanks Santee
My pleasure!
As always, so creative, informative, enjoyable, and fast paced... 👏🌞👏Who said that learning can't be FUN?
Exactly!!
GrandPa used to say "Do your BEST to learn something NEW everyday" I agree with that...
@@robaldridge6505 So, do I.
@@robaldridge6505 YES!
I am currently a retired Army Soldier who is attending Seminary. I can’t wait for your Dressing the Part Old West Preacher.
Yeah, me either. Thanks for your service.
L.H. McNelly(sp?) was a famous Texas Ranger captain that had been a minister in Virginia. Read "Taming the Nueces Strip" to find out more about him. It's a really good read.
Thank You!
Nice! Another classic episode is born...
Much appreciated!
Thanks again Santee & Co .
Our pleasure!
4:30 The original "gangsta" sideways shooting technique!
Right?
This was an extremely interesting video. You are right, you could not cover this topic in a single video, or two, or three, etc.. Great job.
Glad you enjoyed it!
You really preached this one up. As always great review.
With Heather and the dollar....nothing gets pastor.
Excellent video with equally sharp research. Thanks for clip from Buck and the Preacher. Not many such clips available. It was my fortune to spend time with Ed Keylocko who built his own remote town with a church where he preached. Kinda old timey vibes in the last black Freetown. One of the few movies with sort of a religious theme was Heaven With A Gun filmed at the original Old Tucson movie set. Sundt construction got the contract to build the barn as complete building. My father was the foreman of the project. I used to work with some of the guys who built this bsrn. The set owners and investors stopped by to see the progress and spoke with the foreman. My dad had convinced me esrlier to buy the minimum block of shares in Old Tucson stock. During discussion with the Suits the foreman casually mentioned that his son was also a stock holder. The Suits perked up at the foreman's new importance and quickly invited him to their special lunch! Being obliging he quickly accepted.
Great history you experienced there.
😂 Love the ending lol.. Sorry ya had to take a walloping for the episode 😎🍻
It happens
One of my ancestors was a riding circuit Baptist preacher. The Lincoln County War was a continuation of the Irish Troubles!
Cool! Yes, them Irish. Wait, I'm Irish. Darn.
This one was pretty Funny.
Especially the guy in the end in the Black
T shirt.
Best Wishes from Montana M.H
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
4:55 aw good for him. I guess it’s never too late to change your ways
Right.
My great x3 was a preacher for everything from Baptist to methodist from texas to Colorado
Wow!
Dutch Van Der Line : Have Some Goddamn Faith Arthur!
lol
Thanks, another good video. Keep pressing on!
Thank you!
Yep, a church could bring a sense of comfort and familiarity to the wondering traveler headed west....kinda like Walmart stores are today. No matter where ya go, they're almost all alike. Depend on it.
Thanks.
The traveling Preacher in "Paint Your Wagon" sure faced an uphill battle warning the men in No Name City of God's coming wrath.
You know, that is a great movie, and it's based on a stage show which I've never seen. Would love to, one day.
Great production quality Santee
Much appreciated!
Well done. Have a great week.
You too.
Very informative. Thanks. I enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good topic and a big motivator in many different ways in the old west.
Yes, thanks!
Thank you Santee 🤠
Very welcome

Awesome video Santee! My maternal great great grandfather was a Dunkard minister in the Dakota Territory. My grandfather said I have a few drunkards in my line too.
Fun family history.
Great Show !!!!!
🤠
Love your videos Santee and the wild west.. we need more content tho big cheese!!!
Thanks for watching.
I've done episodes every Saturday now for 6 years....hard to do more content with a full time job!
Excellent episode Santee. My GGGrandfather was a Methodist Episcopal Circuit Rider in Alabama. Pretty cool. I hope Heather didn't beat you too bad!
I hope so too! I mean, I still have some teeth...
My grandfather, born in 1880, was a Baptist preacher and a cooper by trade in Alabama.
Mark Twain's quote about life in Nevada during the silver boom (from Roughing It): "There were military companies, fire companies, brass bands, banks, hotels, theatres, "hurdy- gurdy houses," wide-open gambling palaces, political pow-wows, civic processions, street fights, murders, inquests, riots, a whiskey mill every fifteen steps, a Board of Aldermen, a Mayor, a City Surveyor, a City Engineer, a Chief of the Fire Department, with First, Second and Third Assistants, a Chief of Police, City Marshal and a large police force, two Boards of Mining Brokers, a dozen breweries and half a dozen jails and station-houses in full operation, and some talk of building a church."
Yes, he was a card.
""....i like , yah, i share, yah,,,, i describe this as GOOD. You mentioned Mr. Young.....good history there. !
Thank you!
My family came West with the Mormon migration, and were part of the Mormon militias. It's a big part of why the war of Northern Aggression back East isn't a big part of our family history.
You all had your own challenges, it appears!
Crazy! I requested this one too a long time ago. Then when it came out, I apparently MISSED IT! lol I’m just now seeing it. 🤠 pretty much exactly what I hoped for!
Thank you! I try to go off the first one who requested.
@@ArizonaGhostriders oh yeah! I don’t need any credit or anything 🤣 just happy to see it!
Very interesting and fun as usual.
Thank you!
LOL! Great one Santee & if you're going to short Heather you better get religion, hahaha! Well at least she didn't adjust your hat with a 2x4.
I never learn.
I never noticed The Big Lebowski was in Blazzing Saddles.
🤠
My favorite episode so far! Thanks.
Much appreciated!
I believe my great great great great grandfather was a Methodist Circuit rider in Mississippi in the 1830s-1850s. His daughter married my great great great grandfather who was a Constable and later a Confederate lieutenant or captain. I think they were in or near Winston County.
Years ago I worked in piney woods Trinity County, Texas in Groveton doing petroleum landwork. People at either the county clerk’s office or the title plant told me that 150 years ago the disputes between land owners on either side of the county was so great that the Methodist preacher had to keep a .45 Colt on the pulpit next to The Holy Bible to make sure things stayed peaceful among the congregation
Cool family history!
Thanks Santee and have a great weekend.
You too
Funniest one yet! But we have faith in you Santee!
LOL!
Great video Santee, and God bless
Thank you!
Most of my family were Catholics who moved to Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin. My Great Great Grandfather, was a catholic from Norway and had a love for his home country. Even had a calendar of the King of Norway. Most of my family is Irish, Scottish and German Catholic. However, we do sometimes believe in some paranormal stuff, that isn't supported by the church. Ghosts, aliens, etc. I remember Saint Patrick's Day, along with St. Nicholas Day. St. Nicholas Day is before Christmas, where you get candy in your shoes. It's a German and Nordic Holiday amongst Catholics.
The tradition of St. Nicholas day is to celebrate the giving aspect of Christmas, but in a pious manner. In a story St. Nicholas gave golden coins to a father who was trying to marry his daughters. Who needed a dowery. Traditionally kids can get money from their parents or chocolate coins. My Grandma gave Black Licorice Coins from the Netherlands.
It's good to understand a lot of religions, I think. Just a working knowledge. I could learn more, for sure!
@@ArizonaGhostriders Precisely. I always find myself liking other religions. I find it truly fascinating. My favorite is Tibetan Buddhism.
Hey Santee👋
I really enjoyed enjoyed this! Lots of great information.
The best part was you gettin’ yer butt whipped 🤣🤣🤣

Awww, a little makeup.
Awesome !!!! A clip from God's Gun ! I loved Lee Van Cleef, but I remember that movie primarily because it had Leif Garret in it... (crap, did I just say that out loud ? ha ha ha )
LOL. gthe wig Van Cleef had on as the brother was atrocious...but I still watched it.
Good morning Santee,
Another excellent video explaining the old west. Ya done good son, but I do believe the stuntman’s Union gonna wanna speak with you regarding that dollar!
Damn. Always the unions...
That was a good one!

Thank you!
THANK YOU FOR VIDEO,IT MADE MY DAY.I LOVE THE LAST PART THE MOST,HOPE SHE DIDN'T HURT YOU TO MUCH.LONG LIVE THE OLD WEST.GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR GANG ,
Much appreciated!
Love this episode. I really enjoyed the profile of so many different faiths and beliefs. The beauty is that they all believe in God. That is a huge blessing to all of us. Thanks Santee. By the way, you stunt double is a whole lot cuter than you. Ha.
Well said! Even with a fake mustaches she's cuter. Darnit!
Even ministers must be ready to fight
Yes!
Santee, next time you "Skimp" on a payment!! Don't run, lay down and play dead!!
She's too fast.
You nailed it! Great video! Steaks on me if y’all ever get north to Prescott! A dollar??!! LOL!!!
HAHAH!
Another great video. Hopefully someday my video editing skills will be half as good as yours.
I appreciate that!
It often gets overlooked that Judeo Christian values were the glue that held the US together as a unified cohesive community of values. Without it we have seen the unraveling of the Union unlike anytime before in its history. We have always been diverse, so what’s changed? The fact that we no longer share like values, and serve a sense of a higher power than ourselves. Division now rules the day and no one is charitable towards each other. Regardless of one’s opinions of God or religious inclination, religion did offer some huge benefits in the earlier history of the USA.
I don't think anyone can argue that the spiritual belief system in the 20th century offered huge benefits. We see it in writings, statues, plaques, etc.
Yeah, today things are definitely strained!
“We shall now look at the scriptures of Matthew Mark Luke and… Duck”
LOL!
You guys are so amazing!!!! 😍 😍 😍
Much appreciated!
Yet again, i think of religion in the old west i can't help but think of Deadwood and Reverand Smith
Yeah, I thought about putting him in. Such a sad ending for his character.
When Lewis & Clark arrived in MT they were shocked to find that some tribes were Roman Catholics. The Jesuits had converted some tribes in the 1600s. Great scene in Jeremiah Johnson highlighted that fact.
That is amazing they stuck with it.
My wife got a good laugh at your stunt double!
Thanks. Heather is the real deal....and we're all afraid! LOL!
God bless have a good weekend
Thanks for the visit
