I see the Winged Hussars have finally arrived xD good man! Here's the history for those who don't already know
The Siege of Vienna 1683. 150k Ottomans laid siege to the city from July 14 to September 12. This song specifically is about the largest cavalry charge in history that was the final blow against the Ottomans ending the siege. 18,000 cavalry led by Polish king Sobieski and 3,000 Winged Hussars broke the Ottoman lines, carried straight on through, and razed their siege camps.

The craziest thing is that if the relief army from the holy league by King Sobieski and Charles of Lorraine was even 1 day later, the Ottomans would have succeeded in crumbling the city walls with the explosives their sappers planted/prepared. It was literally a race against time.

This Battle also inspired Tolkien when he wrote Lord of the Rings, "Helms Deep" where the Rohirim arrived at the last minute and came charging down, also the scene with the the Mine, where they would blow a hole in the Wall, are from this Battle.
"The Wings" on the Hussars, not only look good but also - most likely - would cause panic in the enemies Cavalry, because Horses are not used to see and hear it and would scare the Horses making it more difficult to control them.

They were supposed to protect against being captured by the weapon arkan (a form of Lasso - Wikipedia ) frequently used by Tatars; the rustling of wings would scare enemy horses (and probably also riders); the wings were to protect against saber cutting from the back.

The Polish Hussars were heavy cavalry. Often, equipping one warrior cost as much as an entire village. Hussars were so good because they used several types of weapons. They used firearms for long distances, in the clash at the beginning they had a lance that was hollowed inside, so it could be a meter longer than the copies of the opponents, which the Hussars hit first, then a skewer about 2 meters long was used to stab the enemy. At the very end, the hussar saber was used (often considered the best melee weapon in the world, even better than the Japanese katana). Hussars often won battles with the advantage of the enemy 40-100/1, charging the enemy several times. She ruled undividedly in Europe for a period of 130 years. There is a confirmed case of pike impaling 6 enemies at once on a single charge. Many troops signed consent to join the army with a clause that they would not fight against the Hussars. There were battles in which the Hussars lost several warriors in the entire battle. Also this one ;)

A wonderful piece about heavy cavalry, which for almost 300 years was the most fearsome and effective combat formation in the world. The Polish Hussars were a terror at that time, but also a last resort, as in this exemplary Battle of Kircholm near Vienna in Austria.
Unfortunately, the dust came, the Polish nobility quarreled with each other and with the Polish-Lithuanian Union. It ended with partitions and our countries disappeared from the maps, in the case of Poland, for 123 years. Sabaton's music commemorated this brave and effective formation. The lances of the first line were longer than the pikes, reaching up to 5.5 m. Take it and hold it while riding on horseback and aiming at the enemy.
The video are clips from the movie “the day of the siege”. This battle can claim the largest cavalry charge in history and will most likely remain to the end of time.

The fact that Mongols were with Ottomans, and ran at the news that Polish King arrived with His Hussars is shown in the movie from which these scenes are from. Hussar was the son of a lord or a lord, the best equipped army at the time. The long 5-6meter long spears that were made by the royal armoury... Sabre, Koncerz, guns and of course armoured all around...
Mongols knew not to mess with the Lechistan (Poland)... Ottomans tried going into Europe earlier through Poland... And failed... Twice. That's why they are seen fleeing. Running from Hussar and his horse wasn't exactly effective way of saving your life either 😏 they were well known to be fast and relentless...

For much of the 17th century, Poland was the largest country in Europe, stretching from the Black Sea to the Baltic. So many border changes over the century in that part of the continent. But for a time, the Polish heavy cavalry was the most feared military force there.
There is an anecdote from this great battle that the Germans, advancing from the east, stopped their advance on the Turkish army only to see the destructive charge of the Hussars. Of course, the Poles did not win alone because the Holy League army was much more. However, the heavy armed cavalry led to panic in the Turkish/Ottoman troops. Behind the success is also the decision of King Jan III Sobieski to attack from the Krincholm hill, which the enemy did not expect and did not place guards or cannons there at all.

No, "Husaria" was alone all history heavy cavalery, but if u want to know PLC has a light cavalery called "Pancerni" and another "Lisowczycy" and some cossacks light cavalery.

Do you know history? Polish Winged-Hussars were only nobles and they had special ppl with additional "sticks", lances! Morover they wer armoured with famous Polish curved sabers and pistols! It was ignorant question! This Battle during war save Europe for 300 year, do you understand or not? You are so poorly educated in the US?
When it comes to Europe Yep other then people that extend their education in history! It is kind of the point to what I am doing here with Sabaton learning with those out there that don't know. Europe Has been around a hell of a lot longer then the US why would they educate us basic education on what we Left? The Ottoman Empire was in no position to really somehow threaten entire Europe.
In this battle they basically only faced troops of Austria, some of the „German“ countries of the HRE (Bavaria, Saxony,…) and the Polish contingent of Poland-Lithuania.
That was of course only a small fraction of the European military power, the largest military power of the time was France under Louis XIV.
Of course France was pretty happy with the Ottomans fighting against its Habsburg rivals.
The relief army numbered around 74.000 soldiers of which around 24.000 were Polish, about 21.000 soldiers of the Imperial Austrian Army, 10.500 Bavarians, 9.000 Saxons and 9.500 soldiers from smaller countries of the HRE. The Winged Hussars made up maybe 3.000 soldiers out of the 74.000.
The war lasted from 1683 to 1699 and the Ottomans suffered a bunch of significant defeats.
France also started a war in 1688 (shortly after the HRE conquered Belgrade from the Ottomans) that lasted until 1697 and much of Europe (HRE, England, Spain, Portugal, Dutch Republic, Savoy and Sweden) fought against the French hegemony, whilst the HRE was now fighting on two fronts against France and the Ottomans.
