  • Dog recall with long line & whistle
Today, we focus on improving our (well, to be honest, just Ruby’s) recall.
We do so using the long line and the ACME 211.5 dog whistle. ‪@acmewhistles1817‬
Recall is something a lot of people talk about and sometimes it can be confusing. But you want your dog to come back to you if there’s any reason it shouldn’t be away from you.
It’s quite a basic process and easy to do. But knowing where to start can be difficult.
Today, I break it down into very easy to follow steps.
Join our walk and add another entry into the Diary of a Dog Walker…
Sit back, relax and enjoy our Dog Walk, shot on my GoPro Hero 10 Black, from your own home or on the go! Perfect content for dogs on their own during the day, families, and dog lovers everywhere.

I was laughing when you mentioned clapping. An american couple asked if they could pet my dog, I said yes, she loves being clapped, they looked surprised and the woman applauded her. Was so funny, tried to keep a straight face whilst explaining.

So this reminded me of when my husband and I were training our spaniel with a long line, went off to a field, got the long line on which I gave to my husband - (we both have whistles as we have trained our dog to come back with the whistle) and our dog shot off across the field and my husband lost the end of the long line and we both ended up chasing the long line and dog around the field....... thankfully our spaniel is now 3 and we gave up with a long line a long time ago. Its a useful tool if there are no obstacles and a nice open space - and your husband doesnt drop the line!

I always get a bit anxious using a long line. Eris gets excited and runs so fast that she has jerked herself and me a few times, I always worry she might damage herself, and if I use a harness she just has too much power behind her and it is a struggle to control her. I have not used it since I injured my shoulder but she is a bit calmer now and I have been doing recall exercises daily in the house and in quiet areas on a 6 ft leash so maybe try it again soon once I have done a bit more work.

Yeah I suppose that is a difficult situation to avoid. Like I mention, it’s unlikely that if you need the long line that your dog is going to be quite as calm.
But with any specific training, I’d always encourage a good run around first before you attempt something (if that’s possible). Just to get the energy out the legs! 💙🧡❤️

@@crightonpetservices yes, a good run and mental stimulation helps. recall is improving, just need to be consistent in training and challenge her gently in areas with more smaller distractions, being aware of what is manageable for her so we have success.
