Sebastian has a lot of traumas. I was mad at him at first then I thought about all the factors that affect him. His actions were wrong but they didn't came out of nowhere, there are a lot of things behind them. He was sold by his parents as a child, abused by his owners, then he became a vampire and had a wish for human blood, when he finally meets someone who loves him back, Cassandra, she dies in front of him and he is not able to stop it. That is the last thing he saw before waking up in XXI century and the first person he saw was Lizzie, a girl who reminds him of Cassandra. With all that baggage, he is not in his right mind and his perception of a romantic relationship hasn't evolved with the times. I'm not saying that he should be forgiven instantly, he has to earn the forgiveness but first he needs to understand what he did wrong. He needs therapy and somebody who can understand his current situation. I say that Hope should call Marcel, he probably would know how to help and teach Sebastian how the modern world works, and we could get back a character of The Originals.

I am not sure if he is aware yet about the merge, but if he is I can kinda understand why he would force the decision on her in order to spare her having to face what would destroy her very soul. In vampire diaries and even legacies, death can be erased. However, the merge would destroy her soul on top of taking her life - game over. As Damon once said, " if your gonna be bad, do so for a reason, otherwise your not worth forgiving" - I'd say Sebastian has pretty good reason for doing a twisted move.
