    to all of the people arguing in the comments, p/c are like water and v/m are fire. you can not compare them, they’re completely different, but both are beautiful in their own way. do i love that v/m won? yes, it was their last olympics and they killed it. am i sad that p/c didn’t? yes, to an extent. i didn’t feel they skated the best they could’ve, but if they had, they definitely deserved the gold. v/m were just better that week, but both teams are amazing and deserve recognition for that.

      your post should be the role model of posts. V/M won, thats cool for me as a P/C fan. one of the two teams had to win, it was a close decision and the better competitors these days won this event. they were flawless and the French made mistakes in the SD. I am sad but the outcome was perfectly right. well done: 5th olympic medal, third gold- wow legends.

    That was simple beautiful. Absolute classical choreografie to classical music. Clean lines, delicate, allready perfection of using the egde of skates. Remember me/give vibes how have skated legendary Navka/Kostomarov to classic music. This couple have ice dance figures, what I call Standart: they are both high, have long legs and artistic arms. I'm really sorry for them, that the SD had those problems with wardrobe and twizzles misteakes. When they have cleen SD, they will have won gold and will deserves. that. Canadian are really great, but my opinion-this couple have a reaaly good chances for next Olympics, if they will continue like that. The best programm on this Olympics for me.

      wow, how shallow to judge a team by describing their looks as standard: p/c being tall, long legged and long armed. i guess ice dance federations should begin pruning their ranks of teams who don't have the height, long legs nor long arms, even if they have both the technical and dancing goods. *ehem, the shibs? maya certainly doesn't have long legs nor long arms nor the height. maybe she shouldn't be an ice dancer ;)

    • @잔느-p4d
      @잔느-p4d 6 лет назад +3

      I agree :) they have a physical appearance that helps their elegant dance, all long and elegant. It is not discrimination, it is description. Some people like musculate tough looking people, some prefer thin classical and graceful people. They represent the ultimate elegance for a french person. I'll wait for them at the next Olympics!
      Une telle élégance est rarissime, cela ne m'étonne pas qu'ils ne reçoivent que des compliments sur leur grâce par les professionnels. On se rappellera d'eux dans l'histoire de la dance sur glace grâce à leur style particulier

  • @manick4707
    @manick4707 6 лет назад +4

    Gia Kourlas for NYT ...wrote about this FD !!!
    When a program shows 2 bodies moving as only one ...like doing by P/C ...suddently the competition is a window towards 1 other space , 1 other time , strange , quiet , floating and memorable .
    And C Pinard , their choregraph said ....we want to see , it's not them nor Beethoven it's the meeting both ...
    Yesterday P/C won the gold medal for the world championships ...with 3 records : SD, FD , and combine .....
    I wrote in a precedent post : P/C will be the precursors in ice dance ....now i hope it will be soon !!

    Cizeron 和 Papadakis 让我爱上了冰舞。。 他们所呈献的 ‘舞蹈’ 是那么的优美,感人,对我而言更多的是爱的共鸣。纵使我不是很了解冰舞的技术难度,但他们细腻的 ‘演绎‘ 确实不是每一对冰舞运动员都有的艺术特质。我个人特别喜欢他们在 2016 World Championships 的自由舞 - Build a Home, 愿祝他们能将这份美好的艺术传承下去。

    Wonderful, graceful and I love the flow of the costumes. They did well with the music BUT their edges - Gabby's in particular and extensions are not quite what i would hope for with this music and look. I have no idea how they did so well in the short dance forget the wardrobe malfunction but technically there were bobbles and artistically this team does not have the magic of Virtue and Moir or Chock and Bates. They can get away a bit more in the Free dance but the short dance the chem was not there. Still I am amazed after what seemed the fix was in and that the judges wanted to give it to them. They gave it to the right team - Virtue and Moir much to my surprise. Still lovely free dance.

      Oh, thank you for mentioning their technical skills. I totally agree, I don't know why people seem to think they're better technical skaters than the canadians. They skate almost the entire program on 2 feet, . They're are unison, but their free leg seems to be just thrown out, not extended, like they can't wait to put it down, so they can be back on 2 feet again. At times, it looks quite messy . As to artistic merit, me. It's been done forever by the Russians, nothing new here.

      @VIRTUAL WORLD DISORDER REALITY CHECK HAVEN
      I am a Canadian and a fan of V/M. Stop insulting people just for the fun of it. It is disgraceful and uncall for. And don't come back with the excuse that the French are doing the same thing on the V/M video because my answer will be: Be more respectful of yourself (and of Tessa and Scott), and don't put you to their level.
      People have the right to prefer the style of dancing of P/C. And it's not true that their program was not difficult. In fact, the base value of the executed elements was exactly the same as V/M for the FD.

    They totally messed up their twizzles and we're not in unison in the short. That's why they were rightfully scored lower. It is a shame that their fans cannot accept a loss and continue to perpetuate the myth that it was due to a wardrobe malfunction

    • @JemJen02
      @JemJen02 6 лет назад +2

      They got a higher score than the Canadians for this piece. I think Moir and virtue got a 122.40 and these guys got a 123.35 for their free dance aka this one. The Canadians were 1.7 points ahead after the short program already. So they took the gold by a fraction! I mean I frickin loved the moulin rouge piece, that was their free dance, that was amazing! But just to let you know. Technically these guys scored a tiny bit higher here. I mean the level of artistry and technique is sublime for both couples anyway!

    • @charnierpradita5716
      @charnierpradita5716 6 лет назад +4

      How would you perform your twizzles with your top coming off and exposing your breast at a time where everything is mocked on social medias and knowing you have to go on ? Acknowledge that it messed with Gabby and that her mind was on the program AND on trying to keep her top on herself. Whether or not it's the origin of the mistakes, only Gabriella can know for sure. For the rest of us, we can only speculate.

    • @sonisisuper
      @sonisisuper 6 лет назад +2

      Their fault. Wardrobe is a part of being a figure skater. Dumb mistake to make and it cost them. Oh well. V/M are superior anyway.

    • @charnierpradita5716
      @charnierpradita5716 6 лет назад +5

      Their fault ? How is it their fault ? Gabriella can't turn around her head at 180 degrees to see if it's ok. They had someone to take care of that. She did not. Since the accident, Guillaume is the one to sew the costumes. If someone is responsible, it's that lady in charge of the costumes who, obviously, missed something. Besides, they have a coaching team for that. If skaters could do everything themselves, there would be no coaching team. Everyone failed them and one can wonder if this was not on purpose. Besides, please, don't make statements like "V/M are superior". Scores during the olympic season say otherwise. And in the end, it came down to the skaters who were the cleanest. It happened to be V/M. But at the GPF, it was P/C. It was close.

      You are misunderstanding at least in my case. I just wish that rivalry would come to a 4 clean skates from both teams. That type of malfunction occurring right at he most important competition of the quad? Big shame. Canadians deserved to win but I just wish it would happen in a competition without this.

One is athletic (yes very well executed) and one is only beauty you can't feel any effort because there is no show of capacities, only dancing for art. Very different things. The same people who don't go watch contemporary dance is not gonna like Papadakis and Cizeron...

    It was genuinely lovely but I did not think the routine was Olympics worthy. I think they are capable of much more. The audience reaction was not nearly as enthusiastic as it was for V/M. Of course, P/C are much younger and have not had nearly the experience that V/M have. I hope that their coaches will give them more demanding programs in the future. They need to do more than just "lovely", at which they excel.

    • @zilam98

      +Derek To by saying "For those, who don't appreciate this artistry, I bet they can't do it themselves", then you are being prejudiced as to the skills of the fans/viewers who watch ice dance, but not necessarily appreciate p/c's "artistry". like i said, can you even do what p/c is doing? and besides, none of us casual fans are actual judges of this sport, but we can do CRITICAL THINKING of the sport aspect of this discipline, right? do we have to have the skills to be able to do some critical thinking of this sport?

    • @derekto6356
      @derekto6356 6 лет назад

      I entitle to my opinion and you entitle to yours. I don't think much of people, who said that certain skaters are boring or overrated. In the spirit of the Olympic games, it is not about getting a metal but the fortitude in participation and the courage to perform in one's best ability. You can do as much Critical thinking of the sport aspect of this discipline, please don't be critical of those had the fortitude and courage to perform, presenting their countries. If you don't have the skills to comment on skaters, it is best to leave it to the judges at the Olympic Games. Judges at the Games are there for a reason, right!

    • @zilam98

    How did they get the highest score ever? There was an obvious mistake in their twizzles. Also, I would say their strength is more on the technical side. Artistically they are rather dull. Compare their artistry to some of the greats from the 1990s for example, like Usova/Zhulin or Klimova/Ponomarenko, and there is no comparison.

    • @manick4707
      @manick4707 6 лет назад +4

      mistake on the twizzles for SD ....here they talk about the FD ....you write too quickly !!!
      After you can' t compare the notes between 1990 and now ...because the rules of ISU changed at the beginning of 2000...
      Also for me the difference between Usola /Zhulin or other ...is the speed on ice ....i think also the material change , the technology changed also ...
      Usola /Zhulin or Klimova /ponomarenko...i agreed they was great champions ....but the skating is different ...like for exemple ....Katarina Witt and Alina Zagitova ....it's different but also 2 great skaters ...

    Is a shame what happened in the short program with the wardrobe malfunction. They are exquisite and a joy to watch. Ice dancing is about the lines, telling a story, about emotion and technique and this couple has all of the above. They are still young and hopefully will have another chance for olympic gold.

      Really? You are a sore fan of the winner? Why? Because Papadakis and Cizeron set another world record in the FD and beat Virtue and Moir in the FD? Do you realize that your comments diminish Virtue and Moir's win? For a fan of the winners to feel compelled to diss the silver medalists says a lot about your character. I am not an expert. But I do know that ice dance commentators always comment about P/C's blades on ice and the fact that in their routines they cover much more of the ice than do most ice dancers. So I doubt that you are any kind of expert in ice dance. But since 2014, I have noticed this about a significant minority of Virtue and Moir's fans. They are mean spirited and find it necessary to diss competitors even when Virtue and Moir are not competing. V/M fans did this to Davis and White when D/W competed on DWTS. And V/M fans did this to Papadakis and Cizeron during 2015 and 2016 even though V/M were not competing. And when D/W won the gold in 2014, they were dissed by V/M fans over and over and over again. I enjoy reading comments, and "no" I have not observed the fans of other ice dance couples be as mean spirited and so persistently mean spirited towards other ice dancers as are V/M's fans.

    Canadians in ice dance: The French pair have an easier routine ice dance is not about speed or art it's about big difficult skills
    Canadians in ladies' singles: The Russians have more difficult programs but it's not about jumps it's about speed and art
    As a Canadian, I am throughly confused by the hypocrisy of certain comments. I for one enjoy them all for their differences, but think difficult and execution of elements should be more important in singles and pairs, where as art, speed, and fluidity should be valued more in dance, as the title itself is an art. Of course being the best in all aspects is ideal but that's not the case with any skater; they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

    I'm familiar with moonlight sonata but I'm not sure with the story behind the music and that's why I'm not sure about their interpretation of it.
    That being said their dance is elegant and smooth, but I think some moves didn't match the music. (Or it's only me?)
    There were wild and fast piano beats but their movements were a little... calm? and there are smooth tunes but their movements were...wild. If they could just exchange some parts, then it'll be sublime. :) Because of those, I feel less emotion from this piece compared to the Shib sibs (it was fun!) or Virtue-Moir (that made me cry the first time I've watched them on YT few days ago, to be honest)
    Anyway, I'll resume my time in my rabbit hole watching figure skating (this is the first time I've gotten engaged in the sport!)

    • @manick4707

      Julia : in fact this sonata have a story .....when Beethoven wrote this pièce of piano .....he was very sad and depressive after a love affair without future for a young Austrian countess ( 17 old for her 40 old and more for him )
      and in the same time he became deaf .....very hard for a musician !!!
      I think P/C translate perfectly the sadness and also the romantism ( we are in 19 century it's the romantic period in Europa )
      For me the traduction of music on ice dance is a perfect moment , i see no P/C nor Beethoven but both in the same story .

    I must be biased as I'm French (sorry 'bout it) but I don't get the hate? like, we know who was part of the jury and truly, if they were to be biased, they would have been more likely to root for the Canadians than the French. So their scoring was most likely based on the artistry and grace of the French compared to the spectacular elements of the Canadians (as many other comments have pointed out). Anyway, I enjoyed both performances for different reasons and I don't understand how some people here think it's relevant to undermine and hate over one's performance in order to confirm their preference for the competitor. Please consider the hard work and dedication of each!

And I do it regardless of where you’re from or who you may be blindly rooting for. The comments are ridiculous and revolting. I don’t really care if a stranger insults me, they mean nothing to me, but I can’t sit back and let them insult a skater, especially personally. I wish they would simply disable comments, in the absence of a moderator. The ISU has issued a statement about such comments on their Instagram publications. You would think people would use the comments sections of social media videos to ask questions, share information, etc. Instead we are treated to a show of histrionics and conspiracy theories. Personally, this does not get to me. I disliked the music. Technically, they looked sharp AF. They are gorgeous dancers. I think so too they were overmarked in the SD, since the twizzles were not great. I am not sure the dress directly impacted the score, but definitely caught them off guard. In the end, it was a tight match between two power houses. Came down to tiny little details. No one should be ashamed of these results!

    • @Angel77300
      @Angel77300 6 лет назад +1

      they were not overmarked, their Personnal Best is higher than that.... So technically the Canadian that beat their PB (for a lot) and french thet don t hit it, it was good marks for both. But canadian have been overmarked at Free yes for sure and french undermarked. When a pair win only because of the marks of one judge who is the judge of their own country, you can easily say they ve been overmarked and even if the canadian deserve a gold medal, here you can say that the french have been roobed. Canadian were better in Original but French were better in Free. At the world the french beated the canadian with almost 3 pts more than them.

    • @marcbeaulieu2591
      @marcbeaulieu2591 6 лет назад +11

      If you actually look at the detail scores, you would notice that the scores the canadian judge gave the French is in the same line as the other judges gave. Only one place is she the lowest scoring for a specific element. In any others, other judges had agreed with them. Second, their short dance was nowhere near the canadians. Third, a lot comes with the impression of the judges. Some liked the interpretation of the Canadians best, some the French. Seeing people argue here, it is obvious that it's not black and white. It's a judged sport, so it's about opinions. The French got better marks in the FD. They won that, but their SD was a slumb and that's why they got second. It's that easy. Stop making excuses about the Canadian judge. Look at the score, you might find a conspiracy, because other judges also gave them bad scores. We can also comment on the Turkish judge that gave shit all to the Canadians. Is that a judge influenced by the French? Conspiracies are usually made up. Even the French couple agreed with the scores. You would think they know better.

    • @Kiltdon
      @Kiltdon 6 лет назад +14

      Didier Gailhaguet has a lot of credibility. Hahahahhaha. The Japanese judge gave V/M higher scores than the Canadian judge. P/C totally messed up their short dance and were hugely over marked despite it. The total score should never have been as close as it was. Be grateful for their silver medal, it was a gift. If you want to know who the best skaters are ask the coaches and other skaters. They will all tell you it's Virtue and Moir. P/C are starring in a new show; it's called Mannequins on Ice. Bring your own emotion because they don't provide any. Hahahahhaha.

      And the French and US judges gave the Canadians much lower scores than the rest of the panel. V/M didn't win b/c of any one judge's marks, but they certainly won despite the marks of two judges. On what planet does the short dance not count? Why are you acting like it's all about the free dance - which by the way, I would have given to V/M. It's a two part competition and the French messed up the short. And as for the PB of P/C in the short? Up until the Olympic year, they never got higher than 78 and usually in the mid-70s. Isn't it interesting that ALL of a sudden in the Olympic year, they start to get marks over 80 in the SD for a short dance everybody agrees is ridiculous or at best lame. The Shibutanis, with whom I am not enamoured did a better job. P/C are lucky they weren't 7 or 8 points behind after the short because they surely deserved to be.

    I think the performance by Katya Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov to the Moonlight Sonata is vastly superior to PC's performance. Everything about G&G's performance was exquisite--hairstyle, costumes, choreography, musicality, emotion, elegance of line, synchronicity. G&G's performance was so special, that I would not choose this music if I were part of an ice dance or pairs team today, knowing that people would compare. There is no comparison. PC's costumes look too old fashioned and like they could be purchased at a local department store. P's hair by the end of the dance looked like a rat's nest. Was she trying to be sexy or something? It greatly distracted from the performance.
    Given their choice of costume for the SD fiasco, I think they should do what Nancy Kerrigan did for her Olympic performances. Nancy had Vera Wang, one of the top designers in the world, make her costumes. They were absolutely beautiful, classical, and emphasized Nancy's long, elegant lines. There is no excuse for a costume malfunction at the Olympics. This is not Ice Capades. It reminded me of Tonya Harding's broken shoe lace in her Olympic long program.
    I first saw Papadakis' short dance outfit at an earlier competition when it didn't break. I thought it was one of the ugliest costumes I'd ever seen. It looked like a grass skirt and top, like she was going to dance the hula. It was suppose to be the samba or some other latin dance? Go to the You Tube video of Virtue and Moir doing the samba--wow! That is the samba on ice! V and M danced another latin routine, the flamenco, for their original dance at the Olympics in 2010--now that is how you do a latin routine. I think it is still one of the very best ice dance performances I have ever seen.
    People say the French are lyrical. I can see that to a point, but, again, go to Torvill and Dean's Bolero performance and their subsequent performances. Dean did the choreography. Now that is lyricism.
    I wish PC the best in the future, but I really think they need help in many areas. They are French, home of the best clothing designers in the world. Get help. Get help with hairstyle, choreography, emotion. C showed no emotion; P looked like she was in angst the entire time. They are so young; why do they look old on ice?

      I so agree with you Peggie Flemming. Well said! I hope they will emprove in tbe future. I really hope. Do floatig movements under a magic music is not enough to be Olympic champions. Both their dances were overscored. I don't understand why their fans are complaining. They got more that they deserved.

      "They are so young; why do they look old on ice?" that's true, in The Skating Lesson ice dance recap, Sandra Bezic mentioned that V/M managed to make Moulin Rouge felt way fresher than Moonlight Sonat even though it's overused.
      Their attitude is also a turn off, they think they're too self important to improve, and trying a new style is beneath them. That's why as a fan it's difficult for me to like them.

      in this case could you explain the 3 records for the world championships 2018 ....SD; FD ; Total ....
      the costumes are the same ; the choregraphy idem .....but the skating and emotion are better and better ....you could hear the tv comments ....not french tv ....but british , or spain , or US .....they deserved well these 3 records and the gold medal ....
      For OG , it was for V/M a Pyrrhus victory , victory by default , yes they skated their 2 programs very well ....but without the costume problem in SD .....P/C won the gold !!!! 0,79 points .....is not a great victory !!!!

      Peggy ...the J Torvill and C Dean 's costumes for the Bolero are " HORRIBLE " !!! The choregraphy was very good and C Dean a great skater .....please could you remember .....C Dean is the P/C 's choregraphe and also for a part in S/Massot programs ......this season ....he was the best !!!!

    • @janetstuder6857

      Hi Manick, The T/D costumes for the Bolero were revolutionary at the time. It was 1984, and up until then ice dancing looked like ballroom dancing or Vaudeville--really corny stuff. For Bolero, their costumes were inspired by Romeo and Juliet-type attire. Everyone thought they were beautiful; I still do. The choreography was revolutionary as well--it changed ice dance forever. Dean elevated the sport to art. For a later routine, he composed the music and hired a 40 piece orchestra to record it. I know C Dean is the P/C choreographer and if he continues to be, I wish them all success. So much of this is personal preference--I just haven't connected yet to P/C.

    La médaille d'or olympique ne vaut malheureusement rien en patinage à force de triche systématique depuis toujours. L'esprit même des jeux en est trahi. Donc ne pas se fier au classement mais juste au plaisir d'admirer tous ces sportifs qui se depassent pour le plaisir. Le leur et celui de leur public.

    En programme libre, ce sont vraiment les meilleurs aucun doute ! Je trouve scandaleux qu'une Présidente de Fédération soit autorisé à juger lorsque ses patineurs jouent une finale olympique ! Je comprends maintenant l'attitude arrogante des canadiens !

    • @izza_ISFP
      @izza_ISFP 6 лет назад +1

      Ce ne sont pas tout les canadiens qui sont arrogants. Tu ne peux pas généraliser l'attitude de tout les canadiens par les commentaires de trolls qui se trouve sur RUclips. Il y a autant de commentaires de trolls français dans les vidéos de V/M. C'est une guerre enfantine de sans esprit. La majorité des canadiens respectent les athlètes des autres pays et leurs "fans". Tu n'as certainement pas lu certains commentaires que j'ai posté antérieurement sous cette vidéo...

      Joly Patricia +izza +manick Patricia ... l’arrogance, l’impolitesse, le mépris , ne sont pas l’apanage d’un seul pays. Ce genre de comportement ne connaît pas de frontière, c’est comme pour le racisme. Pour ce qui est d’une juge présidente de fédération, c’est un règlement de la ISU. Ceux qui y voient une manœuvre ou manigance de Patinage Canada sont de mauvaise foi. Le juge français, ou russe, ou américain aurait pu être président de sa fédération. Cela ne veut pas dire que cette personne soit automatiquement incapable de remplir sa fonction première de juge, dans l’impartialité. On a déjà vu des juges d’autres pays subir l’influence de leur président de fédération, avec tous les jeux de coulisses associés aux olympiques. Cela était monnaie courante à l’époque de l’ex URSS.

    • @manick4707
      @manick4707 6 лет назад

      Pour moi les jeux sont finis ...inutile de parler des règles pour les jo 2018 ....comme je l' ai écrit V/M ont fait le job ...2 programmes parfaits techniquement ....je n' aime pas leur patinage ...mais c'est mon avis et il vaut ce qu'il vaut et n' engage que moi ...
      Par contre ce qui serait a mon sens perfectible dans le futur serait pour l' ISU d' améliorer ....peut être la composition du jury ( les 3 derniers couples médaillables n' auraient pas de juge de leur pays pour la FD ....

      I prefer this program and the music; I just wish they had better or she had better edges and slightly better lines. They do have magic but so do the Canadians. For some reason though he does not have the male lead though romantic figure persona. But I like them; just think overall the right team won - not a V and M fan either lol. Sometimes I hate what Scott says.

      Kim Udang. I agree. There is no chemistry between P/S. When you look at V/M you see woman and man dancing on the ice. Here I don't see it. Just a routine under beautiful music and nothing else.

      J Buda I agree that it would be interesting to see P/C get out of their "comfort zone", push themselves and try new styles at least for the next 3 years and see how they performe. That would help them for their SD too, they are lacking in that part of the competition. Since they have began to win competitions with their classic style they have stick with it.

    El gran error de los franceses no participar en el team event, y eso que eran favoritos de los jueces, aquello les pudo ayudar así como V/M usaron esos eventos previos para ensayo y error con los jueces, lo cual corrigieron en el evento final y se llevaron su 2do oro olimpico (bueno 3ro si contamos el del team event)

      first : north- american school who is most " sportive " ...and a european/russian school ; most artistic
      after it's difficult to reconcile the 2 styles ....the question in ice dance :
      where 's the part of sport ? where's the part of dance ? it's the eternal question and problem
      but thank you for your post

    • @izza_ISFP

      @Manick I don't understand why you think V/M are more on the American style school of dance. You seems to forget that they have train for more than 10 years with 2 Russians coach before their 2 years off competition. Marie-France and Patrice trained in France when they were competing so they must have had the French/Russian training, no?

      that is exactly what happened. if the dress malfunction didn't happen maybe ( but maybe not is possible, too- we will never know) they twizzled clearly and they got level4 in the step sequence ( they lost the level because of Gabriella´s bad double twizzle...but to twizzle in balance with a heavy dress that is not close to your body is nearly impossible) but it happened and the tech panel had to call it and so for me the whole competition went fair, although I cheered for the wonderful French team.the outcome of the olys is completely cool.
