Made this cos I wanted to see how good teenage rooney was, this was all before he exploded to superstardom at Euro 2004. He was 16-18 in these clips, and already had everything - Insane power, great touch, speed and was absolutely fearless. Shame he went to united...
Brilliant mate . I was 18 I’m 39 . It was brilliant seeing the team announced for games seeing his name in the team . We had the best player in the world and he was 16 la.

This video has done more justice to just how technical and skilful Rooney was than any other professionally produced documentary that I've seen. I'm tired of people forgetting just how terrifying this guy was running at defences before his legs went.
Like a bulldozer. Some great clips I haven't seen for a long time, I don't know how you managed to get hold of them. For me his best 2 performances of his career were for Everton aged about 17 against Bolton at home I think and Blackburn away I think. Somehow he never scored in either game but he just dominated and ran past players all game with ease. He had everything.
That was the beauty of his game. He did not need goals or assist to win you games, but the sheer commitment and dedication to win all of his challenges, and also the class he had with every touch of the ball. Amazing player!
This version of Rooney coincided with the time I first started watching football as a kid of 6-7 years. He was my idol. I can’t possibly count the number of times I would try to imitate that rapid dribble-and-shoot maneuver he used to do, look at his goals against Leeds, Arsenal (away), Wrexham in the league cup
There was a game Rooney played… I will NEVER forget it. It was vs Chelsea, Everton lost 1-0 but Rooney DOMINATED that game… wondering if you have that match?
Many people are saying that Bellingham is the most exciting and complete English player since Gazza - maybe that is true, but can we not forget just how exciting and complete this guy was, bossing games for England at 17 and for Man United at 18.
Young Wayne looked like the English R9. He was so exciting. To be fair to him, he possibly had more to him because he was able to read the game and become a more intelligent, creative striker as he got older.
Dude was a 20+ year old man in the body of a 16-18 year old. Incredible technique, insane stamina and just have such an amazing complete game for such an age.
He was actually a lil more naturally gifted than CR7 and certainly more readily developed in teenage years (maybe only Fabregas or Owen were better in the Prem). I remember when they both went to Utd Rooney copped more ratings justifiably so after Euro 04. No-one who saw them both back then could’ve thought their careers would pan out the way they did. Hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard.
@@shesbaldbutiwould Agreed it’s not black and white. Thats why I said ‘A lil more naturally gifted’. There wasn’t a fat lot in it but certainly his insane work ethic was influenced by his awareness of his own limitations in comparison to some of his competitors.

Proceeded to get a whole lot of people didn’t he. Absolute legend. If he’d retained even 70% of that raw power, aggression, physical strength, pace and technical ability he had at that time, he would’ve been even greater than he managed to become, and that’s a testament to how amazing he was. To reach such levels and still have people say about you that you didn’t reach/realize your full potential. I’ve never seen a player so smooth and technically gifted yet so aggressive and brutish - as a striker should be - as he was in his youth. This crazy contrast alone immediately set him apart from everybody else.
He was clearly a better player than Ronaldo when they were around 20, it wasn't even close. It's just Ronaldo kept imoroving and becoming more prolfic while Rooney had to be in his shadow and do a ton od dirty work.
Rooney wasn't allowed to be the main man and improve like ronaldo. He was restricted by saf to be more of a team player. Ronaldo was given everything to shine. Saf was personally biased to ronaldo that's why
@@mtk3755 Rooney had his chance after Ronaldo left,Fergie wasnt stupid either he didnt restrict Rooney he just knew someone had to sacrafice for the team and Rooney would do it,Ronaldo was never gonna do it.
To be honest, his discipline issues and off the pitch lifestyle gave Fergie every reason not to base the team’s fortunes solely or mainly on him. Pretty disappointing it turned out that way given how talented he was. And I absolutely agree with you, at 18 years old Rooney was way ahead of both Ronaldo and Messi when they were 18. Considering that he was this energetic at 16-18 years of age, no wonder he was burnt out by 30 - still shouldn’t take away how world class he was
Fags and booze didn’t help.
