    This game was daunting to my wife. She has only ever truly played a bit of Pokemon, Wizard101, and a lot of Sims. She thought she would hate it. Now she's 110+ hours in and having a blast. Even claims it to be the best gift ive ever gotten her. 7 years together, finally married just over a year, and her favorite gift from me is her first true dive into my world of gaming.
    Updated to add:

    * *minor spoilers for act 2* *
    One of the choices I was genuinely surprised to see come back in act 2 was at the very beginning on the game, on the nautiloid, you can choose to extract the brain and it becomes one of those little brain monsters that calls you "friend" and follows you around on the ship. I really thought that would just be isolated to the ship and I would never see it again, but NO - in act 2 in the mind flayer colony its locked in one the of the cages, you can free it and it becomes a loyal companion that you can call on for the rest of the game! I thought that was so cool that such a seemingly small choice so early on in the game would follow through all the way to act 2 and act 3.

      The one that blew my mind was the spider carcass in Act 2. If you erm... "sample" it first, then talk to one of the Orthon's minions, there's a whole big conversation and you can totally change the whole Orthon encounter. There's a good 6-7 min of cut scenes and dialogue in there that I never saw because I always take the same path around the temple and never thought to Speak to Animals on anything other than the rats!

      @@sebastianocampo71997 I completely disagree. I beat the entire game and I enjoyed myself from start to finish, and I played most of the side quest too. Also Hogwarts sales have been some of the highest of all the games of the year especially long after lunch and it is very well reviewed as well. Anyone who tries to say Starfield was better than Hogwarts is either coping or part of the gaming problem because your tastes are dog shit.😂 it was definitely not better than BG three or tears of the war crimes but for it to be one of the highest selling games of the entire year, and not even be nominated for a single award is wild

      @@theomnidegenerate5236 it sold many copies because the franchise is well-known worldwide. It is a decent game to be fair, I played the game, and it has the fetch quests feel to it and I hated it, the fact that you need to manage your inventory at the start of the game at 20 is so tedious and easily wasted your time. And lastly, I am not a harry potter fan. I liked the movies though. What i Liked about this game is the castle and the environment and the main quest. Everything is lack luster.

    To me, the thing that makes bg3 stand out among other similar rpgs is that bg3 is the first rpg I've ever played that feels like it's being run by a dungeon master in real time. The way the game allowed to to take a shot at whatever crazy idea you have, and that it might actually work. Emergent gameplay is in my opinion the biggest thing bg3 nailed.
    It seems to me a lot of the revival crpgs are based on the classics, which while they were great games, they were held back by technology, and that carries over into the style of something like pillars 2 for instance. Larian made a game based on ttrpgs (like the classics were) and used modern technology to better achieve what classic crpgs were trying to do instead of falling into the same traps they did

    I played early access for about a year and was always curious to why they changed your dream visitor into the guardian. I believe the original story had your dream visitor as the tadpole inside your head trying to get you to use more and more illithid powers. Consuming you in its wake.

    This was as important for video games as Lord of the Rings was for modern literature and film. It will live forever on my SSD.
    The entire industry tried desperately to keep this game from being the new standard. I don't remember that happening for any other game.
    That's because theres not really been a game as good as BG3 compared to everything else for sale, at least since Tetris or something.
    I went back to Cyberpunk after my first run. It felt like a game from a different time and definitely not an RPG.

    • @tarrmusreviews
      @tarrmusreviews  Месяц назад +1

      I absolutely agree, I believe that BG3 is a top tier RPG for our time. It really has set the bar for what these modern RPGs can be offering the choice of older games, but the modern flourishes like voice acting, cinematics, and man the scope for this game is incredible. I'm still amazed that it can run 4 llayer co-op.
      Cyberpunk imo is a great game, but it excels more in it's atmosphere and action, more than it's rpg elements. But if Phantom Liberty is anything to go off, I do feel like future games will be promising (I hope haha)

    If you enjoyed choice and consequences in bg3 you may want to look at pathfinder wotr. Granted, it's not as approachable and can be overwhelming with the character creation. But imo it's stronger then bg3 in regards to choice and consequence and the progression system (not a criticism on bg3, which is also strong here). Companions are great in both (I do think they could've toned down the horneyness of the bg3 companions however)

      As someone who played the first chapter of DOS2 and dropped off (more because life and less because of not enjoying it) I feel like BG3 does overall feel like a roided up version of DO2 with every conversation feeling more cinematic, voiced and gameplay systems that play with accordance with D&D.
      The combat is the still turn based, but it plays off the rules of dnd meaning you can perform a particular amount of actions, movement, spells, and attacks within your turn. It makes for some interesting scenarios both in and out of battle, where in some instances you can skip combat entirely.
      But if you aren't a turn based fan then it still might not be enough to win you over, because it is still turn based. I hope that helps 🙂

    I do have one issue with your opinion on multi player. How the f*** is it seemless? I tried to join my friends and it made his game crash and made me the host. But then I was playing on someone else's character. It was so f***** up, and I can't delete my characters.. now that old guy can't select his character and I'm stuck on his and decided to stop playing that playthrough..
    I don't know.. if it was more drop in drop out co-op like Diablo 2 from 20 years ago...I think I would enjoy the multiplayer a bit more.. took my team of new players hours just to get the game started.
    Game kept crashing in the creation screen and if you start a campaign its difficult for people to join unless you start a new playthrough...ps5 bug never been even looked at since release
    I originally wanted a solo game and a multiplayer save to have my friends join freely while not caring if they fuck up the story...
    Well... due to how the multiplayer works, I now have like... 10 saves with all the people I play with to avoid glitches....
    Like.. you can't delete or transfer characters saves.. so what's the point? Being host has so many limitations compared to any game.
    Plus joining an existing game breaks it..
    I had leazel trapped in the ground under the map and it wouldn't let me kick her from the party or delete her and I couldn't kill her or select her to fast travel to camp..
    I was stuck in a multiplayer session with only 3 ppl half a party and couldn't get the 4th person to join when we were all together cause I needed to get rid of lezeal..... it's so jank it feels archaic when I just want to join create a guy and game in less than 5 minutes..
    Instead.. all 4 of us had to start over...
    I couldn't imagine experiencing this in act 3.. I'd probably kill myself

      I mean nothing is perfect. Plenty of games have buggy multiplayer right out the gate but like you said maybe it's because you're loading played character. Imo I don't know how youd mesh 4 separate played characters in different places and expect a seemless story. Starting over at the same time is probably your best bet.

      It isn't. It has been a nightmare for most people. The game isn't deserving of the hype either but what happens is a few people hype it up and then the hype grows. If you don't agree with the hype people attack you and you don't get to feel included so people just say the words to be included. I caught numerous people who never played the game trying to pretend they had. I got bored and quit before act 2.
