  • Starting from grid position 7 in the standard scratch race, I had a much better start, losing only one position to Brent Findlay in his 1200 Datsun while I struggled for traction. I subsequently lost another position to Tony Pearson in his RP2000 Escort under acceleration but regained it at the first corner. Determined not to fall behind early in the race, I maintained close proximity to Brent Findlay. As the race progressed, the high-capacity vehicles began to pull ahead due to their cubic capacity advantage. I had to exert considerable effort to stay close in parts of the track where they could gain distance.
Unfortunately, Bert Govan's Jaguar experienced a blown radiator hose, forcing him out of the competition. Adding to my challenges, my driver's door opened at the hairpin, which caused me to lose my hard-earned gains and fall back into the pursuing pack. Gavin Jackson in his Triumph quickly passed me, followed by Greg Mowat in his Lotus Seven, taking full advantage of its lightweight and good braking capabilities a lap later.
Despite my efforts, I was unable to recover my lost positions or regain focus, and an off-road incident on the following lap further hampered my performance.
I finished in 8th position with a fastest time of 1:46.810.
