What’s soooo amazing about Calvin is his ability to lead like an insane beast and get out of the way like a gentleman. And yet his delivery is always composed.
Something about Calvin Rodgers keeping that back beat while he does his fills. That's important. Helps the rest of the band and the singers to stay with it. Second thing, he doesn't over do that messy double time chops stuff. Don't know bout y'all but drummers nowadays over do that and get lost in there, ignoring the foundational groove. End of rant. Thanks Josh for these videos. Shout out to Calvin "C Rod" thee goat!
@JoshDrumClass @lfloydmusiq I think I saw you asking about the lead guitarist who played at the 115th Holy Convocation Midnight Musical Drummer Reaction with John P Kee. His name is Leeland Thompson, and he is also the lead guitarist for Quartet Gospel Artist Pastor Daryl Pettis and Take 2 from Memphis, TN. I have seen him perform with Pastor Daryl Pettis and Take 2, and he is amazing. They have a song called "I Believe It's Turning Around for Me" that is excellent from start to finish, and Leeland Thompson's skills are truly impressive. It's rare to find a quartet guitar player who can seamlessly transition to playing with a choir without any noticeable difference. I hope John keeps him, as he has had many musicians come and go. In the mid-90s, two of my cousins went to audition with him in Charlotte, but their dad didn't want them to go on the road with John.
I am from Chicago and I have a fan and watching him play for over 25 years. Way back before the world knew his name and I knew back then that he was different. No set he does is the same at all and this was just a master class on performance I swear
man that guitar groove at the 13 min mark is life changing. Especially when you combine it with the intro and then Calvin's transition into the next part of the song. smh....good lord that's a clinic.
Broooooooo! When it comes to Calvin Rodgers on drums, I’m like he’s superhuman! I call him the Mike Tyson of drums. Any song I listen to, my mind blown!! What he does with the Paradiddle-diddle, 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮!!
Cats were really critical of C-Rod on this, "His chops weren't clean", "He was missing hits." It's been said that he (Calvin) wasn't scheduled play. If you look behind Calvin to his left, Chris Darden is there kinda guiding him through it some it. If he really wasn't supposed to play, to go as hard as he did with minimal notice if phenomenal!
@@aubryquinn3756 True. But everyone is an expert and a critic too. But even on his worst night, Calvin is better than 99% of drummers. And none of the comments I’ve seen from the bigger name cats had anything bad to say.
@@cuejay Your correct .Just because every other drummer chops through the songs they want Calvin to do the same all the time.. John p kee doesn't do the same set of songs all the time he changes up a lot.. People don't even take that into consideration..
@@aubryquinn3756he usually does that medley though there's a lot of videos of his drummers playing through it. So Calvin has probably heard it but that doesn't means he's committed it to memory.
My brother!!! I hear you on what you mean about Calvin’s skilled greatness… it’s scares me too !!! I remember when I first started watching him when he played off of Marvin sapp “thirsty” album!! It still gets me every time❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I wonder how long he had to go through the set list? I mean it’s obvious her was called at the last minute. John’s music is so intricate if you get the call at the last minute, you’re gonna miss something even if you were his musician. This stuff keeps you on your toes.
@dacboigames8477, @lfloydmusiq I think you were saying that the lead guitar player for John P. Kee is Leeland Thompson, not Leo. He is from Memphis, TN. He also plays lead guitar for Pastor Daryl Pettis and Take 2, a quartet group from Memphis, TN. I believe you were asking if John P. Kee is from North Carolina. Yes, John P. Kee is originally from Durham, NC, and he mentions this often in his songs. He says, "I'm from Durham, NC, outside the county line." He currently lives in Charlotte, NC, and pastors a church there.
It’s possible to get there. Just stay consistent, practice when you can as often as you can and be patient with yourself and also continue to study musicians and it you will get there. I felt the same way at one point.
Calvin Rodgers and Chris Coleman is definitely the bar. But imma give a small margin to Chris because of his super speed and his thought patterns and approach. And Calvin is that same monster but Chris’s timing is so off the charts. HE IS A ALIEN, with different frequencies. Straight up.
You, shaking your head: "I...I gotta clean up my linear fills..." Me: "I just need to pick my guitar back up, I guess I ain't done...i have a lot of work to do"
Like Jim Kerry said “SMOKE’N” all they missing is Prince, Roger,James Brown and Clyde!!!😳😳😳🔥💨🔥💨🔥💨 they are the only ones that I know could come together and top this!!
If I played what Calvin Rodgers played there, I would have like 17 broken sticks and 10 mutilated ones. Probably with one wrist injury too😢 Yet I wont still come up with anything as flaming🔥 as that😢
Much respect to you for what you do in the music community. I’m the guitarist for John P. Kee. Thanks for showing love 💪🏾🙏🏾
Aye Thanks Bro You’re amazing bro!!!!

Sir, absolutely stupid what you did to this video.
