To defeat soft mute on AM tune one half step off frequency when the signal is strong. The tune light will go out but you can still hear the station. Once you do this the radio behaves like an analog and doesn`t mute when the signal fades and gets weak. This works on almost every DSP radio. On radios without a tune light like the DreamSky pocket radio you`re one half step off tune when the volume drops. Try it, it works!
Grabbed one on Amazon for $19 shipped and it looks brand new. To date, my favorite radio. Excellent sound and reception on both bands. Smooth tuner and good dx,er.
Yesterday at noon I listened to an AM station 268 miles away with this radio. This was outside though. Signal was weak but listenable and understandable. I get a strong signal on one 140 miles away. I did ID the stations. A loop helps this radio on very weak stations but I wasn`t using it yesterday. These were target stations but I heard several others my others radios are deaf to that I didn`t identify.
After watching all of your videos that feature this radio, I'm think I really want one. I kind of don't get the point of a DSP based radio without a digital readout.
Why the strap? The ICF-19 replaced the ICF-F12s and ICF-F10, what has the strap. No FM stereo? Many places where these are sold probably don't have FM stero. Excellent AM reception and very directional loop antenna. The nulling, effect is impressive.
I got mine from Amazon. They are around $30 and has the exact same reception as the more expensive 506, you just lose the slimming factor and AC operation the 506 provides. I love the 400+ hour run times of this radio. Planning some more videos with this radio :)
That would be interesting, seeing that the 19 is DSP with a decent ferrite antenna, and the PR-D6 is analog with a larger ferrite...interesting...maybe in the future..
Its ok, I thought I made a mistake and didn't check out that station. I did jump the gun during the video on a few of the stations, but that is where I can correct with the subtitles. Thanks for looking out for me.
Hello, If the battery indicator does not turn green does that mean it is low? There is only the tune indicator which is in red and after a few moments, the radio switches itself off. Can you help me ? THANKS !
The shoulder strap is an interesting conception for a smaller radio, I wonder if you could put one on any radio. Wonder if it would work on your $5 NIA.
Get a universal battery charger that can charge any number of batteries (up to four) and get some rechargeable D batteries and you`re set! Plus with a universal charger you can charge all types of batteries. I have rechargeable D cells in mine and leave the radio on at night when I sleep without worrying about using up expensive alkaline batteries.
Hello, Just wanted to say Thanks for your excellent review, I’m Buying this sweet!! RadioThrough your link, Oh by the way, The price of The Panasonic Rf 2400 went up to. $41.99. Ouch!!! Happy dxing...
This radio is a great one to take on the porch and just listen to it. The battery life is stupid good. It sounds excellent. I wouldn't DX with this, but it's a listeners radio. This is a buy it from me. 530 is more than likely CIAO Brampton Ontario.
Time of day, programming, direction, and signal quality. Plus I have a list to my right so I may check the alternates that maybe heard on the same frequencies at times.
The Sangean PR--D6 is a great choice, stereo out plus bass/treble controls with true analog tuning. Great little radio. ruclips.net/video/4sWnWb_MGVs/видео.html
It is, but I like the fact this one is all plastic. I know, but over time it will last longer then metal speaker grills. I have found those rust, dent, and don't hold up over longer periods of time. Also this one is a long running portable, when you don't have a power grid, this radio will keep going for a long long time.
I had an ICF-18 and it "mysteriously" disappeared from my home; I've been thinking about getting this one. Which one do you think sounds louder at max volume? (in case you had tried the ICF-18 before). Greetings from HK4DAH from Colombia.
Looking at that radio, I would say they might be similar. The ICF-19 has a deeper cabinet which may help the lows and mids. It runs on three D cells instead of two, so it may output more power to the speaker, but I have my doubts. They went for long lasting power here with 400+ hour run times.
@@todderbert Yes, I think that if Sony took the ICF-18 out of the market and replaced it with the ICF-19, the latter should have some improvements. Now I think I'll pick the ICF-19 when I have the money. Many thanks for the answer. 7/3 de HK4DAH.
This radio and the the other current Sonys in this price range do not have stereo on the headphone jack...I have no idea why. If you want stereo on the headphones check out the Sangean PR-D6...that radio is awesome. It has separate bass and treble controls that work with it's external speaker and headphone jack.
You shouldn't be so quick to criticize that carrying strap. Sony was thinking of the guy who carries a man purse as part of his wardrobe. We should be thanking Sony for being inclusive and recognizing the need. Just saying... One nice sounding radio...many thanks!!
Well this owner will not be using the "man purse" strap...its ridiculous and gets in the way whenever I'm using the radio...after the video it came off. I don't mind a good carry thong though :) (see the GE 2500 video)
The ICF-19 has slightly better audio due to its deeper cabinet design. Runs on D Cell batteries only, and is perfect for off the grid use. The 506 sports similar internals, and reception. Runs on AAs, and has an AC Input.
Where is this made? Sony is a company that still makes in countries other than China and I am wondering if this is one not made in China.. They even make products in Japan still..
Well, my new EP-Pro has not arrived yet to test. My normal EP is a monster, I would say this ICF-19 with it's DSP helps it quite a bit. They are not equals, the EP is amazing, probably due to its larger ferrite bar and fine tuning knob for the antenna. I think Radio Jay Allen ranked this ICF 19 pretty low compared to the 4+star EP...I think the 19 does very well for the money though. Its just not quite the hardcore DXers first choice. Who knows if that changes if I decide to do a loop session with it.

I just ordered it. My Sony collection is growing.

Loving mine, just filmed some revisits to this radio the other day, will upload them before Summer ends.
Wow! The dial and frequencies are spot on! Very rare feature these days.
Agree .. so is mine!

Best radio ever in AM and in FM is very good also. Highly recommended.
Gracias desde ( Salto Uruguay ) very nice Job.
You have a lot of radio stations on medium waves. In Asia, these waves almost silence

Saves the company money.
In store?
I just bought the Sony and Panasonic both are great.

Just use the buckle on the strap to make it shorter. I just ordered one on Amazon because I could not buy an ICF-506.
Did you get the ICF -19 from E Bay? Sound good, excellent AM reception too.

lets see a head to head with this ICF-19, against the Sangean PR-D6
That would be interesting, seeing that the 19 is DSP with a decent ferrite antenna, and the PR-D6 is analog with a larger ferrite...interesting...maybe in the future..
The 600 was WMT Cedar Rapids, IA
My pop up title showed up just before I mentioned that. I need to work on timing a bit :)
& I should watch the video closer.

That strap reminds me of the old Sony Captain-55 radio I had, 🙂
Hello, If the battery indicator does not turn green does that mean it is low? There is only the tune indicator which is in red and after a few moments, the radio switches itself off. Can you help me ? THANKS !
The Green Light dims as it gets low, but most are still using the same batteries after three years! incredible.
Yé ! Thank you very much !!
The shoulder strap is an interesting conception for a smaller radio, I wonder if you could put one on any radio. Wonder if it would work on your $5 NIA.
I was thinking a leather holster for my NIA :)
Whoa what a prefomer!
Echoes was not on DSOTM it was on Meddle

I love SONY✨
icf-506 / icf-19 more bass ???
Did you, or can you, review the Sony ICF-18 ??
Hmm. Is it possible it was just a really great night for AM DX and the radio is actually only average on that band?
Possibly, I have not spent many a night with this radio, since I have so many to review. I will revisit this one, since it did impress me.

1610 CHHA from Toronto
How are you able to identify the station location so quickly?
Time of day, programming, direction, and signal quality. Plus I have a list to my right so I may check the alternates that maybe heard on the same frequencies at times.
Nice Looking Radio, Very nice sound, It Rocks!!👍👍
It's one of my favorites. I'm loving this D-Cell powered Rock Monster! I think 400 hours is a fair amount of time to get your rock hair going :)
Very good radio mine batteries last a long time 👍 Congratulations Sony 🇧🇷
Hai I need a stereo FM radio with headphone out , which can play in real stereo FM mode
The Sangean PR--D6 is a great choice, stereo out plus bass/treble controls with true analog tuning. Great little radio. ruclips.net/video/4sWnWb_MGVs/видео.html

DSP radio.
Solid.
What is the size of internal ferrite bar antenna for AM band?
4 and 3/4 inch (12cm)
Minimalistic design.
Works very well.
