Excellent sculpture work (which in my opinion is the hardest part). Really ambitious to take on all of the finishing fabrication as well. Silicone is very tricky and a lot of artists go for a much too translucent base. Eager to see your work continue to advance!
Thank you so much! This was definitely tricky and my base colour was indeed too translucent but I learned a lot from this. Doing these kinds of projects is really hard without a workshop tho, so it's definitely going to be a challenge in the future. Thank you for you kind words, I'm very glad you liked it!

What was the most expensive part? Would it be very expensive to make additional castings?
The most expensive part in any project is your time! This was a uni project so in that sense the time was "free" but now that I work in the industry it's always trickier to find the time for these kinds of projects. It wouldn't be very expensive to make a new raw cast but the time it takes for the finishing and the details is where the cost really starts to rack up!

Can you please share the clay, silicon and other supplies
Hey thank you, the clay is water based and it was recycled from previous projects, the silicone for the mould is 3481 from Notcutt but any other tin cure silicone should do, just make sure you know it's compatible with the material you're going to be casting with. For the rigid shell of the mould I used gel coat and laminating resin with fibreglass but you could use Jesmonite or even plaster. For the eyes I used urethane resin and epoxy clear resin and the hair is human hair😊 I hope this helps!
Amazing work!! what kind of silicone you used? What is the difference between pink and blue?
Thank you so much! I used a silicone called 3481 for the mould and one called Silskin10 for the cast! The pink stuff is the 3481 silicone and the blue is a hard fibreglass shell to keep the silicone in its proper shape.

How do you repair silicone joints
If your silicone piece gets a tear you're probably Better off making a new cast, however, if you've only recently poured the piece, the chemical reactions keep going for a couple of days after the piece has "cured". If you catch it early that means you can just add a bit more silicone and use it as a glue or filler. That's also why it's often a good idea to save a bit of uncatalyzed silicone after you've mixed your pigment in for any repairs or seams

Hi, I know it's being a while since you uploaded this video but I wanted to ask you, as far a I can see, your mold doesn't have breathing holes while you're pouring the silicone that's right? How did you avoid inner bubbles?
Hey no worries, thank you for the comment! The mould had several bleeder holes, although I guess it's not really obvious from the video 😅. I don't remember exactly how many although most of them were on the inside core and along the top edge, just generally placed in high spots where I thought bubbles would gather. Hey I'll reply in English in case anyone else wants to know. The needle I use is a simple sewing needle where the hole has been cut open on one side so that it forms a "Y" shape. You can use this shape to hook onto the hair and push it into the silicone . It's quite a time consuming process and it takes a lot of practice, I'm not that good at it, but it's pretty satisfying once you get into a rhythm. Hope this is helpful!

I have tried sculpture and I couldn't ever translate what I saw into the 3D, but you put so much work into it, and it shows, I have also tried making a mold....... Like I said, I tried. Hi, unfortunately you haven't given me a lot of information there but I'll tell you what I know. I'm not sure what brands deliver to India. A good international brand is Smooth-On, but I would go on their website and see if you can find out more information. You probably want to use a platinum based silicone like Plat Gel 10 or 25 depending on how soft you want the rubber to be (a higher number signifies a harder silicone). As far as the amount of silicone, it's really difficult to tell. Most silicone statues you'll see online only use a very small amount of silicone. You only really want to use silicone in areas that have exposed skin, since silicone is quite expensive. On most figures that would be mostly head and hands, with the rest being covered by clothes. On top of that, the silicone parts are usually hollow as well, with an internal fibreglass shell that supports a silicone skin. Ultimately you need to figure out what your budget is, since the cost can quickly get out of hand with these materials. Hopefully this was useful information, sorry I couldn't be more specific.
