He keeps tryin to impress her with his authority ( they sound like this when they proclaim sovereinty) but the lioness stands off, these species of lionesses (barbary) are unique, they aren't submissive and they own themselves.
Als Kind war ich mal im Rostocker Zoo, es war schon Abends kurz vor der Schließung, das war im November und die Sonne war schon fast untergegangen, da hat man überall Geräusche von verschiedenen Tieren gehört, auch die Wölfe haben geheult (was ich als schaurig empfand) ... plötzlich hört man den Löwe brüllen, einmal richtig laut... boah, da war aber Ruhe im Zoo, alle anderen Tiere verstummt, der König hat einen Brüller losgelassen und man konnte plötzlich eine Stecknadel fallen hören, war eine seltsame Stimmung, auf mich hat das damals großen Eindruck gemacht.
Endlich hab ich ihn wiederentdeckt... meinen blonden Löwen aus der Fernsehdoku :) Nur schade, dass Leipzig nicht näher liegt bei Österreich... Würd da gern mal live dabei sein
Look up lions looking in mirrors. There's a male with huge dark mane who is just stunning!! Looks into mirror & behind mirror as if trying to catch other lion. It's beautiful & amazing to watch!!! This is good too!!
@unamp6... Think of this: In rough nature they won't get this old and, by the way, he's the prettiest guy i've ever seen among lions so... Thanks to the good care of the Zoo staff of Leipzig, they do a good job there :)
In 1980 I visited the Berlin zoo, and I noticed the large animals were relaxed with shiny coats and a little extra fat, theycseemed very well cared for even in smaller, old-fashioned cages they seemed content.

To small of an area look at her she is staying very still cause there is no were for her to run to get away from him ..He is anxious,exercise different surroundings to occupy the mind from same things day after day....why feed them if you can't or won't give them a life of some kind ??

Was für wunderschöne Tiere, eine Schande, das sie in Gefangenschaft leben müssen, so ein großer Löwe, würde alles dafür geben, einmal durch die ganze Landschaft zu rennen. Diese Löwen tuhen mir sehr leid.

They need to stop starving these poor animals. The male can't mate b/c the female don't see him as anything. He has no weight on him to make him look powerful and fierce. He looks weak and sickly, and he shouldn't b/c he is still a young lion in his prime.

He is upset. He is calling his Pride and getting no response. He only has one lioness in with him who is probably on birth control and doesn't want his attention to have cubs. He is calling the rest of the lionesses as he would in the wild - normally, all of the lionesses and cubs of the Pride would answer his call and come to his location and this is not happening - so, he keeps calling and looking for them. You can see the one lioness in with him is afraid of him as she is cowering in a submissive position with her head and ears down. She moves out of his way is a crouched, lowered crawl and lies down out of his way with her head down. She warms him with a growl not to attack her several times. She need other lionesses with her too. This is not normal to have only one male and one female - lions are use to a Pride.
Where are you from? Germany is one of those countries tha take care of her animals very very well. Not like americans that kill their animals in so called "shelters"

They get shot by rich people for fun in the wild. Sometimes its better for them to be in a zoo.
They are all bread in captivity and never learned how to hunt. In the wild they would starve soon.

This are free birds. In the Zoo Area lives a lot of Birds. Sometimes they fly to the Lions or the Tigers. But they are fast enough to fly away.
