    The room I showed in the video is at the Helax Guesthouse. I recommend reserving it online using this website: www.booking.com/index.html?aid=1724899 Or you can use that site to search for other hotels, apartments, hostels, etc.

      13:23 that was a tourist trap/robery.
      For 20 euros you can get 4 hot meals in Tallinn, touristy places aka Old Town probably something like 2,5 hot meals.
      Also that looked nasty :(

    • @jamesblack993
      @jamesblack993 6 лет назад +18

      @@WuTangChopstick Yes, Estonia is very overpriced for the wages we earn. I think it is mostly due to weak competition, majority of firms just keep on milking consumers. On the other hand our economy isn't very strong, yeah sure we got talented and smart people in tech industry and startup ecosystem is quite healthy, but other than knowledge we do not possess copious amounts of natural resources to keep the economic engine running. Globally, Estonian market is very unattractive (especially for industrial purposes) and so local firms want to stay alive by pumping up prices. I think it's quite reasonable expectation given the fact that our wages have skyrocketed for few years now but the productivity growth hasn't been keeping in line with income growth. Not a very healthy position to be in long-term. Our new government has been fucking us up also for the past 2 years. For ordinary citizens like me, the conditions are livable, but the living standards are nowhere near that of Scandinavian counterparts or US/UK.

      It is quite understand why you hear Dutch influence in Estonian.
      Estonian is very close to North German so-called plattdeutsch because plattdeutsch was official language in Estonian towns over 600 years. If you see German and Dutch then they are close family languages. This means that Estonian can sound like Dutch as mixed with Finnish. It's just right !!! Estonian is finnish which has strong influence from northern German.
      Language researchers have been found in estonian language about 500 words that are the same origin with North- German dialects. In addition, Estonian language developers have been mainly Estonian-German priests and school teachers who translated books directly from
      German according to German grammar rules. Germans have very easy to learn estonian. It can only take half a year when all Germans speak almost fluent Estonian.
      As for Estonian languages and Finnish languages, the two languages were
      separated from each other approximately 1000 years ago.
      Estonian language speaks out as German, after all, that it is not Germanic language. Estonians has easy to learn both Finnish and German and Dutch.
      It is quite understand why you hear Dutch influence in Estonian. Example this tower called KIEK IN DE KÖK, which means "look into the kitchen". In Estonian you can say, "kiika kööki". Estonian KÖÖK means the KITCHEN and estonian KIIKA means LOOK.

Doesn’t have many settings and glitches out so hopefully buying the laptop you also use will be able to handle editing software and iMovie will be a thing of the past for me. Thanks for responding. Enjoy Estonia. Would love to go there. I’ve wanted to go to Narva just to say “I can see Russia from my backyard”.

      Yeah editing on a laptop should be a nice change. I use Videopad. It's a reasonably priced program and works pretty well, though I'm thinking of upgrading to Adobe Premier sometime when I'm ready to learn how to use it. The Lenovo Yoga has been working out great for almost two years now. Only problem is it takes a few hours for it to export these long videos filmed in 1080p. Other laptops are quicker such as Macs apparently.

    Depeche Mode Barr is pretty awesome...even if you are not a fan..also, their own beer (flavored with Depeche Mode) is really good. You can only purchase at the bar, too.

    The thing you forget to mention about your lodgings there this time of year. How is the heat and hot water? I grew up in Midwest USA I would not travel there this time of year.

    What a lovely place. Estonia and Finland particularly interest me. Are you going to Finland next?

      No, I don't think I will return to Finland on this trip. I was in Helsinki last spring:

      Like Omar says... Summer is beautiful, but also high season as all of Europe. If you can aim for Late Spring, Early Fall you can get great balance of weather and pricing. Happy future travels.

      Tired of Fools I am planning a vacation in late spring 2020. Tallinn is one of the stops on the tour. I thought what a coincidence since my father’s family was from Estonia and I had found a relative on Facebook from there. So who knows? At any rate, it looks like a marvelous place to visit. I can’t do it in the colder winter months so miss out on the Christmas markets.

    Total cost for a week journey in Estonia?

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  6 лет назад +1

      That depends on a lot of factors such as whether you will stay in an expensive hotel or a cheap hotel or a hostel, where you will eat, what you will do, etc.
