As an Estonian that has been living abroad for 8 or so years, it's quite refreshing to see someone exploring Tallinn (which used to be my hometown for the longest time). I hope you enjoyed your stay!
@@WuTangChopstick Yes, Estonia is very overpriced for the wages we earn. I think it is mostly due to weak competition, majority of firms just keep on milking consumers. On the other hand our economy isn't very strong, yeah sure we got talented and smart people in tech industry and startup ecosystem is quite healthy, but other than knowledge we do not possess copious amounts of natural resources to keep the economic engine running. Globally, Estonian market is very unattractive (especially for industrial purposes) and so local firms want to stay alive by pumping up prices. I think it's quite reasonable expectation given the fact that our wages have skyrocketed for few years now but the productivity growth hasn't been keeping in line with income growth. Not a very healthy position to be in long-term. Our new government has been fucking us up also for the past 2 years. For ordinary citizens like me, the conditions are livable, but the living standards are nowhere near that of Scandinavian counterparts or US/UK.

Tallinn and Estonia are Europe's best kept secret. I do see Tallinn as more of a Nordic country and is very similar to it's Scandinavian neighbours. A very futuristic country!

if you had waited a little longer... now it is all covered with snow and we have real wonderland here. In winter it is cold here under white blanket of the snow, in summer it is hot, in spring you see and feel how life begins, in autumn you can see more colors than you ever knew existing... So come again and stay longer to see why we are really blessed here....by mother Nature.

Its not expensive in local food stores tho...Old Town is the only expensive af area place cuz its medieval town that has shops mostly for tourists.but outside of it there are normal cheap shops.
In the Old Town , if you want a hamburger don't go to overpriced McDonald's go to the Estonia hamburger places for better quality and better prices also the supermarkets in Estonia offer a great selection of already cooked meals at good prices

christmas is the best time of the year in tallinn, always beatiful lights, good food in old tallinn and for some reason it's really warm going there in the evening of christmas.
Think about it Ben, he gets paid for this. I would prefer doing his job anytime than being in an office with undesirable people !! At least he gets out in the fresh air, see different places and gets paid for it. He's very lucky to be in that position. Yes there are downsides in terms of not being in a relationship or not able to buy a property that you can be based at. But hey I rather be in his position travelling than doing the mundane 9 to 5 job.

Yeah editing on a laptop should be a nice change. I use Videopad. It's a reasonably priced program and works pretty well, though I'm thinking of upgrading to Adobe Premier sometime when I'm ready to learn how to use it. The Lenovo Yoga has been working out great for almost two years now. Only problem is it takes a few hours for it to export these long videos filmed in 1080p. Other laptops are quicker such as Macs apparently.
Depeche Mode Barr is pretty awesome...even if you are not a fan..also, their own beer (flavored with Depeche Mode) is really good. You can only purchase at the bar, too.
The thing you forget to mention about your lodgings there this time of year. How is the heat and hot water? I grew up in Midwest USA I would not travel there this time of year.
Like Omar says... Summer is beautiful, but also high season as all of Europe. If you can aim for Late Spring, Early Fall you can get great balance of weather and pricing. Happy future travels.
Tired of Fools I am planning a vacation in late spring 2020. Tallinn is one of the stops on the tour. I thought what a coincidence since my father’s family was from Estonia and I had found a relative on Facebook from there. So who knows? At any rate, it looks like a marvelous place to visit. I can’t do it in the colder winter months so miss out on the Christmas markets.
That depends on a lot of factors such as whether you will stay in an expensive hotel or a cheap hotel or a hostel, where you will eat, what you will do, etc.

I´ve travelled across the europe, but my hometown Tallinn has best price/quality ratio when it comes to eating. Also the SPA-s hotels are the best.
Estonia should be considered a Nordic country. It feels very similar to the others.

The thing you forget to mention about your lodgings there this time of year. How is the heat and hot water? I grew up in Midwest USA I would not travel there this time of year.

Like Omar says... Summer is beautiful, but also high season as all of Europe. If you can aim for Late Spring, Early Fall you can get great balance of weather and pricing. Happy future travels.

Tired of Fools I am planning a vacation in late spring 2020. Tallinn is one of the stops on the tour. I thought what a coincidence since my father’s family was from Estonia and I had found a relative on Facebook from there. So who knows? At any rate, it looks like a marvelous place to visit. I can’t do it in the colder winter months so miss out on the Christmas markets.

That depends on a lot of factors such as whether you will stay in an expensive hotel or a cheap hotel or a hostel, where you will eat, what you will do, etc.

I was there in Tallinn literally a week before you. A delightful city. I reeeeeeally came to appreciate that hõõgvein (hot wine). And I see that seagull is still staked out on that wall. ;-)
Old Town area is the best in Tallinn, even though it's a tourist trap, it's just hella beautiful and cozy
