each to his own but i actually really enjoy the mushroom casting vids, theres something so satisfying about pouring molten metals in plaster cases and watching them being broken off to create the casting. nice work sir ! :o)
Sleepless Weeks Of Depression thanks! I guess it’s not as spectacular as ant colony casting but there’s something about turning a mushroom into metal that is really cool to me.
I know it’s been six years so you may not remember but what did you end up doing with these? Did you keep them or sell them? They’re absolutely stunning
You mention that after the plaster dries you remove the the mushroom remnants from the plaster before pouring the metal, how was that done without destroying the cast?
Don't know why but this guy reminds me of RelaxingEnd. Expect this gut doesn't game but its so peaceful watching a video when they don't speak or show their face
well in relaxing s channel description t says pure hamming so like no vlogs or face reveals. if you wanna hear relaxing voice check out his 6 petrifier buried glitch
On these 5 casts some were regular hobby store plaster (which I think is just plaster of paris) and a few were hydroperm plaster. I didn't dry these good enough, but I use a lab oven to dry them now. It takes a while for them to dry completely (a few days). I don't have the method perfected now enough to tell you exactly what to do but it's best to dry it continuously until it's time to pour the aluminum, weighing the molds occasionally until they stop getting lighter from moisture loss. I don't really know the best temp to keep it at but at higher temps, regular cured plaster starts to turn back to powder. There are some plasters made for doing this, look up "investment casting" which is what jewelers use. Also, depending on the objects you want to cast, green sand casting might be something to look in to.
Mom and Dad!!!!!! help me!!! how have i ended up watching some dude make mooshrooms out of aluminium in the middle of the night, and also need to go to work tommorow????
I was wondering if I could just put the mould in my incinerator to burn the mushroom out ? Maybe you could wash the debris out with liquid wax if the mould is hot enough?
On these I actually let it dry a while then washed and picked it out. Repeatedly washing/drying is a bad idea though because it cracks the plaster I now know.
Do you do a fine sandblasting or something for the finish? Also I hope you won't stop making casts of ant colonies. Mushrooms are interesting, but the underground workings of ants are something not as often seen.
+Nova Light Yeah I just wanted to do some with different. I'll do more ant colonies soon. I blasted some of them with fine glass beads, that really just cleans them and leaves it pretty dull. A fine brass wire brush on a bench grinder shines them up ok after that. The beads help clean where the brush won't reach.
+Anthill Art I was wondering if you might be able to burn it out in your furnace, or at least make it easier to remove. Like a lost wax/ plaster casting.
+bigmic4 if I had a furnace that I could control the temp accurately I would do that. Needs to be slowly ramped up. I do use a lab oven but it doesn't get as hot as I need, but works ok.
+타에 not really, just when I have time to do it. I do like how the vids look at night though. It's also cooler at night-good when you're hovering over a hot furnace
+Anthill Art instead of tapping one into the aluminum could I drill a hole then use a bolt ? Because I have been doing my anthills and hot glueing them on wood and I mean it works just not really sturdy
+Wesley Nutt Yeah that's basically what I mean, but to make threads for the bolt/screw you need to drill a hole then use a tap to make the threads. For heavier casts I don't bolt them, just set up dowels in a way that the cast sits upright. Most of my ant colony casts are setup that way without any mounting to the base.
waiting for it to decay, washing with a hose, drying in a lab oven, picking at it, vacuuming with a shopvacI do all of that and then repeatthere are probably easier ways to do it though that I will try in the future because this way takes forever
We did it boys, we have aluminum mushroom casts
ahhh mushrooms. my favourite ant breed
OMG, made my day!
HA HA HA!!!!!
Yes, they live very complex lives. The mothers are known for their amazing teaching and parenting.
wHEEZE
They grow so fast, and you have to let them go soon :( great sp tho!
I don't know why but this video was very relaxing
It's official u have anger issues on mushrooms😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah, just the sounds of the wild nature and removing the cast
Your experiencing asmr search it up its very relaxing
Thank you for making high quality videos and sharing your passion.
Wow man these turned out phenomenal! How did you remove the mushrooms from the mold?
Let it dry and decay for a while, then wash it and pick at it
Ok, Thanks :)
BearsoftheTaiga You'd have to be very careful what acid you used, so it didn't eat the plaster.
@@AnthillArt smart
Holy shit, man. It's been forever. I hope this means you'll be uploading more regularly.
Yeah I had a long hiatus but should be posting more often now. This is actually the second video I've posted recently.
Anthill Art Oh, Yay! I'm looking forward to it. I really love these videos
Cool thanks!
+Anthill Art So are you not doing anymore anthill art? I thought the structures were beautiful
I keep freaking out because I always think the aluminium will break when he takes off the plaster.
Shadowhound SAME. I'd be so scared getting the mushrooms out of the plaster.
Those mushrooms when finished look very nice.
ITS A GIANT MUSHROOM. MAYBE ITS FRIENDLY! GIANT MUSHY FRIEND!
Keep the ideas coming because this is too cool! Really makes me want to try!

vry cool. also nice to see no one crying about killing living things wah wah wah.
MUSHROOMS ARE PEOPLE TO! *mushroomlivesmatter*
+IG X007 *too
guynemer53 god bless trhank you
Fun fact: he did not kill any of those mushrooms.
The mushrooms are still alive under the soil, in the forms of myceliums.
+scaperist exactly, the part we see is actually just the "fruit" of the mushroom
Your works is umbeliveable !
they look pretty damn cool for early casts lol
Those turned out beautiful! Good work!

that's really ironic, considering your profile picture is a mushroom
Gloria He lol yeah... just noticed 😂😂
Does anyone else just love how the aluminum bubbles up?
1:28 Son, you have a serious urinary problem.
Meme Gaming lol
What??? 😂😂😂
Your videos are pretty cool to watch! 😄
I know it’s been six years so you may not remember but what did you end up doing with these? Did you keep them or sell them? They’re absolutely stunning
Man these are amazing. I'd like to see more things casted as well! Do you do this alone? Incredible!
+Mason Minor thanks. I pretty much do it alone, although I get help when pouring the ant colonies
This is pretty much the same as lost wax casting of rings. I have done some of this. What plaster casting solution do you use?
dude, i really admire your art, congrats
Hey bro. Can you tell me how to remove the mushroom debris from the plaster mold by the most convenient way.
TONG SHARP I'm pretty sure the molten aluminum just burns it out
To the 93 dislikes, give me one reason why
I didn't dislike, but I was half expecting him to magically turn mushrooms into aluminum.
I disliked it because I am a mushroom and this is very offensive to my people.
@@cocospops9351 oh, I'm, uh, sorry
@@JoshD777 That's okay, no hard feelings. Cool vid anyway, I've done some lost foam casting so might give this a go 👍
Well dang! Well, I'm thankful that this video was recommended to me! This is great and I never seen someone do that before! 👍
That is so cool. Can you use any kind of plaster? I want to try this with copper.
thats exactly what i need to know
I don't know why, but I suspect this would be a pretty amazing and relaxing hobby.
Really nice! I wonder how he removed the mushrooms from the moulds though🤔
Do you make the bases yourself or do you order them? If you make them, I'd love to see videos on how those are made, they look beautiful!
+ThatJoshGuy327 thanks, I have been making the mushroom bases myself and am thinking of including that part in a video sometime
this channel is pretty dope to be quite honest
Anthill Art, as if picking mushrooms so beautiful was not enough )))
Also, you've done a good casting for these roles ;) :-P
Your back. Thanks
what about his back?
Who you calling pinhead?
+Pinhead Larry what are you doing here.
Super vidéo ,intéressant , ludique , continue ne t'arrête pas
I would love to put one of these on my desk
Well get some plaster and aluminum and your all set!
+Nov11jojo So all I need is a soda bottle and a chunk of wall?
You mention that after the plaster dries you remove the the mushroom remnants from the plaster before pouring the metal, how was that done without destroying the cast?
How are you getting out the mushroom?? Does it just shrivel enough that it falls out in parts?
Don't know why but this guy reminds me of RelaxingEnd. Expect this gut doesn't game but its so peaceful watching a video when they don't speak or show their face

these videos are so satisfying
The sounds are so satisfying for some reason lol
Might be a weird request, but how about casting a slice of bread?
+Muzik Bike - Geometry Dash and stuff that would be cool, may have to steal that idea :)
What do you use for plaster? How do you dry it? I'm interested in casting some items in aluminum, but need to know what plaster to use for the molds.

Awe, you should've kept the bottom at further right 3:39. It had a cool wave to it, just make it smoother... still cool art man:)
No mushrooms were harmed in the making of this video
the new easy way to make sculptures XD
hi I love is that you do and wanted to know what the white liquid you used to cover the mushrooms
thanks ;)
Very nice. How do you come up with ideas on these projects?
He finds an object
And then he makes a mold out of it

more anthills D:
Poor ants...

Anthill Art how do you get all these ants where are you to get all these ant hills. Plus how much do aluminum cost
I was wondering if I could just put the mould in my incinerator to burn the mushroom out ?
Maybe you could wash the debris out with liquid wax if the mould is hot enough?
It would probably work if you could ramp up the temperature slow enough
How do you get the mushroom out of the mold before your pour the aluminum? Thanks for posting!
I think he doesn't. The aluminion burns it.
On these I actually let it dry a while then washed and picked it out. Repeatedly washing/drying is a bad idea though because it cracks the plaster I now know.
How do you get the mushroom out of the plaster before the molten aluminium
Can you do more ant hills?
Im curious, how do you get the original mushroom out of the mold?
Where do you find the picking tool, o cant find one anywhere.
Finally!! I thought you forgot about RUclips
Do you do a fine sandblasting or something for the finish?

Awesome! How do you remove the mushrooms from the plaster?
It's not easy. Let it decay a while, dry it, wash it, scrape it.
I wonder if you could do the same, or similar, with flowers. Maybe using a different metal or material.
Why is this so fascinating and relaxing? Love love 😍
how do you remove the debris ?
ps:cool video
love your work.
everything is chrome in the future
Man... The references...
goes into a fetus position. "FURRRRRTURRRREEE!?!??!"
what kind of plaster is used for the cast?
what about using tin ? I used to cast snail shell out of tin, it works great
So you make molds and fill those with the metal?
yep
Do fleshlights next

why does molten aluminium work so well for casting?

How did you get them to stand up right on the wood will you please explain
I tap a screw hole in the aluminum then use a screw to secure it to the base.
+Anthill Art thank you so much for the advice
Love your videos, just wanted to let you know there is a user called J. Jay that is stealing your videos.
are any of your pieces for sale?
You should try other metireals such as bronze, copper, brass, lead.
+EPIC_GUY 8 probably will do a brass one soon
Athill Art, how on earth do you remove mushrooms from casts???
waiting for it to decay, washing with a hose, drying in a lab oven, picking at it, vacuuming with a shopvacI do all of that and then repeatthere are probably easier ways to do it though that I will try in the future because this way takes forever

easier ways... acids? )
does this burn away the mushroom or is it cast in the metal?
He removes the organic material from the plaster cast.
+Tom Sigsworth hiw does he do that?
what kind of plaster do you use?
There's a comment above on this subject
how do you remove the debris
ps:cool video
Why do you cover it with sand?
You should make a new channel called Mushroom Art

yeah, more than it's worth unless you have a lot of youtube subscribers :)
