When I was still crawling, I came too near our poodle when he was eating, and he made it clear to me I should get lost. My mother said you could clearly see all the 4 canines as marks in my face. My mother was pretty worried what to do, so that I do not get a phobia of dogs and she might have to give her 1st child away. I was the 2.child, the poodle was there 6 1/2 years befpre me. I was the intruder. So she set out to do something. And in the evening, I sat with my diaper fat ass in front of the TV, eating a cookie, and the poodle sat beside me. I took a bite, then I held the cookie over to the dog, and he took a bite, then I took a bite again. We were friends again. No trauma. I think I can read dogs quite well, having had a dog trainer from day 1. To see in moments there you can go all in, this one wants to be left in peace - and this one you better leave alone. Often you do not need more than one "Cha!", one slap on your leg and all is clear. Cats - not so much. They too often have no interest in social contacts. And like this video shows, they are extremely visual. Not finding out that is no adversary, just a piece of fake fur. Doesn't even smell catty. But yet he treats it like a real puma. I remember they tried that with lions and a mirror. They got extremely upset, but somehow they could not get at the enemy, so they ran over to get around the mirror - and the enemy was gone. Totally confused. they turned round, and there was that guy again! Back to the other side of the mirror - and he disappeared again. They just did not get that this was them in the mirror.

If you're going to have a Pet bear or a pet lion or whatever like you see these guys on the documentaries having...... You have to make sure that you either don't bring anyone else even close to those animals Unless there is a barrier like a cage or something because they do not treat your friends the same as they treat you.
For normal animals like dogs though all it takes is a competent human and a competent trainer. Sometimes that human is both but if you aren't a competent trainer but you are a competent human you will take your dog to a competent trainer.
