I am tired of being quiet about bad vendors. The owner of Simply Spiders was local to me and someone I considered a friend long before he started the business. I even helped him when he first began, showing him in my videos at expos and I made his first logo in exchange for my D diamentensis that I still have.
But we began disagreeing on conflicts in the tarantula hobby and it seemed like he was unwilling to ever be wrong. I made a video about the issues Brazilian tarantulas were facing with imports at the time (and still currently are tbh) and he got angry about it, told me he wished I “used my platform for good” and blocked me. In hindsight I wonder if it was because he wanted to keep selling Brazilian species without people knowing the issues happening on import.
Years later he apologized, gave me a tarantula (likely in hopes I’d give him a shout out) and took a selfie with me to send to his customers that liked me .. as if we were friends, as if he hadn’t talked negatively about me to many people I didn’t even know in the community which honestly made expos feel unsafe for me to even go film at for a while.
I quietly have watched a long time and said nothing.
People would ask me why I never recommend Simply Spiders all the time, and I usually didn’t say this because it was all personal issues between us and not at all business related. But now since it appears he has taken many people’s money and has not fulfilled their orders, I feel more comfortable sharing my experience. I hope he makes it right to those he owes tarantulas or money to. Good luck.

Such disappointing behavior, sorry you had to go through such an awful experience! Glad you are above all this! Those affected by this, deserve swift justice! We need more people like you in the hobby who love what they do and care for others in an honest way!

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience Kat, no one deserves that treatment. When things like this happen people need to speak up, could save people thousands of dollars. I know had I read any bad info or reviews I wouldn't have purchased from him in the first place.
Please don’t delete this. This is very important information that people in the hobby need. Not just that this is a business to avoid, but to show people the warning signs to look out for in the future.

Please don’t delete this!! I lost $400 for a Brazilian jewel and I’m not able to get my money back due to the amount of time that passed of them dragging out that they would ship.
Please dont delete that important video for everyone in the hobby. As a newcomer myself (only own 3 phiddipus), I'm looking around for good tarantula breeders/sellers. Its so good for me to see eventual signs of "wrong" dealers. And I'm sure many other newcomers or people who are already in the hobby can use this video to prevent further damage! Its so sad what happened and I hope simply spiders will face the right consequences. Thank you for standing up!
If anybody got scammed out by Simply Spiders, I'd strongly recommend reaching out to your credit card or debit card issuer to request a dispute. More often than not, you'll win the chargeback case. I know, because I work for banks that deal with this kind of thing.
I think this is good protocol and why it's good to save any emails. CC companies will often go beyond the dispute period if it can be shown that it was on the seller not the individual. This video and emails will go a long way to proving a case with the CC company.

They continued to make excuses until the time had passed for banks could not do anything. You usually only have so much time to contest. More often than not the time had elisped.
I was scammed by him which is awful because I trusted him and considered him a friend. He talked to me right up until he disappeared and kept reassuring me that everything was fine. Even tried to convince me that someone had scammed HIM and stole all of his spiders and that he had to come up with thousands of dollars to replace them all for customers.
I will definitely be joining in on bringing him to justice.

We bought over 200 worth of Tarantulas, never got them. One excuse after another. Said they would refund our money, nope.

I'm in the group chat and it's so frustrating to find out how many people were scammed by Dustin! Group chat is at 45 people as of today and growing! I won the mystery box on the fundraiser last year and never received it. I'm thankful I'm not actually out money but it still sucks 😔

I was apparently one of the lucky ones. I messaged him in his private messenger in March I believe. I had a few hiccups trying to get my refund for T's I had ordered and got tired of waiting for. I was very persistent Thier always seemed to be an issue with how he tried to send it. Finally he sent it through Facebook from his (sisters account). Anyway His main excuse to me was that he moved only problem for him is he moved cross country to oregon, but I live in Oregon and I told him I was willing to drive the hour to his house to pick up my money if he couldn't figure out how to send it.. The next day I recieved my refund.
absolutely DO NOT delete this, newbies need to know what to look for, and this stuff needs to ALWAYS be called out and STAY called out.
Good advice. Unless he's taken to court, I don't see anyone getting compensation. Will be a long drawn out process but if no one does it, then there probably won't be any consequences for him.

I bought 4 t.seladonia from Dustin in February. I just recently had to drive to Houston and pick them up from someone he did a breeding project with because he ghosted me on Facebook and on his email. If I didn't drive to Houston I would have never got them. I wish everyone who dealt with him the best and hope everyone gets their t's.

He didn't, many others were saying that Simply Spiders were scamming for over a year. All this guy did was put him on his podcast & now probably feels like he has to put this video up because many stories are stil coming out about getting scammed.
Yup. I ordered from him on the 20th of November last year. $355 worth of spiders. I gave him grace because I had lost my dad earlier that year too. He was also so entrenched in the hobby and had such a good reputation.
Such a bummer.
He got me for $800..I am on disability, so it will cost me even more on Credit card..ughh ..
He almost got me for $800 but I ended up driving to Houston to pick them up. It still cost me gas though.....

The Tie Dyed Tarantula is a local store for me, and the owners are great. Definitely would recommend if anyone is in the area, he also ships I believe, they're on Facebook as well. He has a room just for his Ts and they have a large variety with competitive prices. Plus, the handmade Tie-dye they do is amazing.

He was a friend of mine and I would help him because I wanted to be more involved in the hobby. I caught onto his shit real quick and just slowly stopped talking to him. I am grateful for the people I have met through him in the hobby, at least the good people, but everything else just seemed like a motive for him. I hope these people get justice for losing a shit ton of money. It’s not right.
Please don't delete. We know you are super positive. And it's because of creators like you that people buy tarantulas. It would be the worst case scenario for someone to be oblivious and buy from simply spiders and have a foul experience which can put them off keeping tarantulas entirely and that's the worst.

When you interviewed him, I had bad vibes. I didn’t trust the dude at all and he seemed full of it. Glad the truth is coming to light. I hope people get their money back and I hope justice is served.
That whole situation with Dustin was just heartbreaking. I really believed he was a respectable member of the community. So much so I sent my mature male hanumavilasumica to a friend of his on a breeding loan. His friend stopped responding to my messages, eventually I got a story about family issues and now I’m either blocked or his Facebook his gone. I only got a message about the family situation because someone posted about hanumavilasumica slings they purchased and I questioned who they got them from. Since at the time I had one of the few mature males that were out there and it had been months since I heard from him. I had a few breeders begging me for him but I sent him to Dustin’s friend because I respected his opinion, and trusted his input. My first ever mature male I sent out for breeding. Since my T’s have always been pets. I only wanted to pair him because of how rare the species was and it being endangered. At one point after that simply spiders had hanumavilasumica slings for sale. At this point it wouldn’t surprise me if they came from my male and I just got screwed out of the whole deal. Of course that’s just me speculating he could have gotten them somewhere else but it seems awful convenient.
Also since I’m here and you mentioned recommended sellers on your site just want to throw out there that a lot of people question why Fear not is no longer listed. I know that situation was a personal issue between you guys that got out of hand. I really wish you guys could talk things out and fix the relationship between y’all. I really miss the days of The Tarantula collective and Fear not being a team and working together within the hobby. A kick ass team I must say! I just wish y’all could talk, clear the air with each other and move forward and past all the crap that happened in the past. I know a lot of people have issues with the way Tanya calls out people bad mouthing Fear not, she’s just super protective of what she’s built and everyone knows being a woman in the hobby isn’t the easiest much less a successful woman in the hobby. Underneath that bubble protecting Fear not’s reputation Tanya is a good person though. You know that. She’s helped a lot of people in this hobby including myself. It would make me really happy if you guys could be friends again.

Man I use to purchase Ts from him, remember having some of my orders delayed awhile back, but I did eventually get my Ts. That just breaks my heart man.....Damn Dustin.
Such an unfortunate turn of events, I stuck up for Dustin as well on my social media accounts that first time he got slammed by people for the pokie "joke" fiasco on his website but after the events in the last year I just feel bad thst I ever even did business with the guy. I got lucky and received everything we had ordered before he stopped shipping but I know a lot of people did not and my sympathy goes out to everyone. I hope the group manages to bring at least a civil suit against him to show that as a "collective" (see what I did there 😉) our hobby won't tolerate such behavior and bad business practices.
I couldn’t agree more.. I once thought of Dustin as a sort of friend. I’d ordered from him dozens of times and anytime I had any issue he always made it right. I had an entire order show up dead totaling like 1k and he resent out all the Ts the next week no questions asked.
I stupidly stood up for him originally having this history with him but at this point there is no excuse. I may have had a sparkling experience with him, but that’s not how others were being treated.
It kinda seems like a rug pull… was a good vendor for a while and then cashed out on all that goodwill at the end in the most scummy way. Sucks. I really wanted better for everyone. :/

You could’ve asked me, I knew everything. Dustin blocked me after I asked how the heck you allowed him to sponsor you. I knew he was shady before the whole pokie debacle. I feel like because I’m not a big youtuber no one listens to me. I also saw how he was taking money for spiders he wasn’t shipping. I tried to warn people he was going to take the money and run because he was moving. But to when you’re a nobody, no one listens.
If you get hundreds of emails and comments then I don't think you would notice one comment or email. Like this comment gives off both self deprecation and a bit of ego.

Same thing happened to me with Palp Friction. I found a bunch of others that had been scammed by them.
Having been scammed I know how big an impact it can have, it's horrible, really damages your trust in people. Hope people can somehow get something if not all their money back.

As an ex addict I always got the vibe that he was using something...even a couple years back when he was in the "hobby form pokies" debacle. He just always looked scrubby as well when you would see pictures of him hanging with people at conventions an stuff. It seems like a small thing but a "normal" person usually would want to dress nicer and stuff being around other people within the hobby and business, if that makes any sense?
Growing older, I've come to understand calling an addiction a disease. And I completely think you can pick up of signs that a person is "unhealthy" somehow if something is off. It really seeps into lots of facets of their lives unfortunately and it alienates people without anyone realizing why.

This sounds an awful lot like my horrible, 2.5+ year long, drawn-out experience with Austin at 03Arachnids when I paid to pre-order a large number of spiders from an "upcoming import" pre-COVID. So sorry to anyone going through this nonsense, and thank you for keeping your viewers informed.
So, what I heard (negative business practices with respect to pre-import orders) about Austin at 03Arachnids is true? Wow!
@@barneymiller795 I could write a rather long book on how much effort it took to hold him accountable. Long story short, I spent ~$1500 and got years of excuses, ghosting for months, etc. I would suggest to ANYONE to stay very far away from 03Arachnids unless you want the same experience. In the end, he did end up giving me spiders this summer (literally years after I originally paid him, and a friend physically picked up the order from him at an expo they were both vending at so he couldn't make more excuses about shipping parameters, etc), but none of the spiders I originally ordered were what I ultimately received. I settled for whatever I could get from his current collection, and already I've had a supposed "sexed female" molt out as a MM. I'm surprised he's still in business.

To have waited that long to receive your order and things you had your heart set on it's almost criminal, sorry to hear that you had to go through and endure that nonsense. I remember almost pulling the trigger on some items on his import list about a year and a half ago he had a number or should I say all of the P.murinus variants available at what seemed like really reasonable prices. I remember at that time I missed the date to have for the funds to be on that particular order due to me having ordered some tarantulas out of Poland instead. Fast forward to the beginning of this year I saw that he was on Morph Market and mention that fact to another local (here in L.A.) breeder collector with Austin was up and running again. He was at this time I was forewarned to not buy anything from him has a number of people this local collector knows had not received their orders stemming from months prior. As a matter of fact, I was told some of them had requested refunds and Austin had yet to address the issue of refunds let alone their orders.
@@barneymiller795 By the time I realized he was just full of excuses and he was starting to ghost people who were upset about the delays, it was already past PayPal's window for disputing a payment. I just was persistent and regularly sent emails to every email address I could find. I saw that other people who had requested a refund were ghosted completely, so I tried to be strategic and just asked for an equivalent order. I also didn't post anything negative about him online because I didn't have any way to hold him accountable if he ghosted me at that point, and it was a huge amount of money I was owed. He stopped responding to his 03Arachnids email, so I found his other work email and finally got a response from him there. Several times he was "going" to send me an equivalent order that never materialized. I genuinely don't think I would have ever gotten anything if my friend wasn't physically vending the same show as him and offered to pick up the spiders in person. It was a whole saga and I'm just glad it's over. Pretty sure all the Aphonopelmas he sent me are wild caught, and I'm curious how many of the "sexed females" will turn out male, lol. He's got a bad reputation with local vendors here, as well.
I've had a handful of tarantulas along with other critters for a while now and just recently decided to take my hobby more seriously. I've joined some groups and was pretty surprised with these sort of issues being somewhat common, at least from my perspective 1-2years talking with people. I agree with some comments here, I highly suggest not deleting this video, this is a good reminder to keep safe while purchasing tarantulas.
Dude got called out for being sketchy/shady years ago. It's a real bummer it went down like this but not at all surprised.
This is such an important video. I hope all those people get their money back, or at least some kind of peace of mind.
Damn, that's terrible. I heard about him on Tom's podcast, an old episode, then watched your podcast and I couldn't get a feel for him if he was genuinely sorry, or unaware, or if he was lying. I'm glad I didn't use him, but I did use 7 Wonders, and my T's are great! They even gave me an H pulchripes as a freebie! But I'm horrified for all the people that lost money from Simply Spiders. He can get prosecuted, I would contact his state's attorney general.
It seems with some scams, someone gets into a bad state and can't get out of it, but doesn't do the ethical thing (of refunding orders, etc). Especially with money, they justify it with "I need this money." Not tartunla related, but got taken advantage of by a friend for money, which was right before March 2020, and heavily contributed to my mental health tanking super badly then with everything else..There's a balance between being understanding of struggles and giving them space to grow, and accountability, and not allowing further harm.

Yes, so much shady stuff. So glad I didn’t order from him during this time. I did order a couple of Ts from him couple years ago and as these Ts are finally starting to grow they are not the species I ordered. I ordered 2 Pseudhapalopus sp Columbia and they’re actually Pseudhapalopus sp Blue. I recently found out that during that time a lot of the P. sp Columbia being sold were actually sp Blue.
I feel so sorry for all the ppl who got scammed. He and Eresus did the same thing to their customers then dipped and screwed over the business who bought their inventory. Ppl definitely need to bring up civil suits against these two businesses. Don’t let them get away with this.

Well dang, I almost ordered from SS a few months back, but since I'm in your FB group, I've been noticing people making posts about being ripped off by them so I made the decision to hold back for a bit. It sucks, cause I was hearing great things about them a year ago. Actually, a few tarantula businesses I wanted to recommend if you happen to be in California are :Seven Wonders Tarantulas(I think they used to be Eresus Spider Shoppe at some point??), The Serpentarium(especially if you love reptiles as well), The Spider Room and East Bay Vivarium are great places to check out as well.
They bought eresusspidershop and shut them down due to eresusspidershop screwing people over and our right scamming people including myself
Got my T. albo sling from The Spider Room just about a year ago, the owner was willing to work with me coming in on Sunday to pick it up, and the guy who was there to feed and care for their animals was expecting me. We cooed over my little one and I got to see a bunch of Gandanameno Sp. slings on a nearby table! They've done right by me for my first purchase, and when I'm ready for more I intend to order from them again.
I almost made the mistake of ordering a Brazilian jewel from them when they were allegedly giving the store to a new vendor...thank God i didn't

Yea, Dustin Blevins is notorious for putting money over integrity. He was never a good keeper and his business was all windows dressing. He was constantly screwing over his business partners and making bad business decisions. I haven’t been in the hobby for a few years but all this is not a surprise to me!!!
Thank you so much for all of the info you give us, it’s really helpful to new people to the hobby. We now have a d. Diamantinensis and a grammostola pulchra ( thanks Fear not Tarantulas 🖤) and got both of them online with no issues.
Thank you for making this video! As someone who was scammed out of close to 1k from him it is so important for people to understand best practices with ordering online. I had previously ordered from Dustin with no issue which is why I trusted him. I will be definitely be checking your site for your recommendations before ordering online again.

Hey Richard! Long time member of your FB group, used to be a subscriber to the channel. I don’t want this to come off as negative, or venomous, but take at face value:
I remember you had him on for a podcast, and he was talking about the “hobby form pokies” and other hobbyists who were calling him out. You seemed frustrated they were calling him out for some of these Sri Lankan species being illegally sold and I actually unfollowed your channel for that.
I greatly appreciate this video, and the ownership, and I’m happy to resubscribe.
I always go to Fear Not Tarantulas, I've always had amazing service and are very helpful. The only thing I wish was better is their website, first time I ordered from them it took me hours to read up on their policies and I feel like it could use some polish. But still by far the best I've ordered from.
Super sad. I had looked at his website several times to order but never did. I hope those that got scammed can get everything they need to take him to court. I know I almost got scammed out of thousands of dollars for a dog but my dad happen to catch and got me to stop and get to my bank the next day and dispute all the money
We can add the cost to sue him also
All the tarantulas I own are from local shops or vendors at expos. I highly recommend Paladin Exotics, One Love Tarantulas, Marshall Arachnids, Animal House in Mukwonago, WI and Fanghub Tarantulas. I've met and talked to them all and they're all very legit. I feel for those who got scammed. This happened to me from a different vendor but after talking to Murry from Paladin Exotics, I disputed the charges and got my money back. Do your research and all will be well!

I always mark the last date I can issue a charge back on new vendors. I ordered a Brazillan jewel. Paid 350 on sale, 3 hours later they sent an ad for the same T for 199. Emails ignored until I threatened charge back. Got my refund quick. Never do business with those crooks again!
I had to go digging for it, but I knew I had a sticker of their logo I got at an expo some time ago. I can't 100% remember if I got the sticker as part of a non-animal purchase or just swiped it as I made my window-shopping rounds, but it's definitely the same logo. Shame it turned out like this, it's made me a bit worried to buy from anywhere that isn't a B&M or expo.

That’s horrible. I’ve only bought tarantulas online once and I thought I got scammed at first. I’ll tell the full story before I name the company. I ordered two brachypelma species and was supposed to get another one as a freebie. When the package arrived, I had two spiderlings. I was pretty ticked off because I spent over a hundred bucks when you count shipping. I reached out to the business and respectfully told them the situation. They got back to me and explained that they had a mess up in the order because there was a wildfire that made them have to start evacuation right around the time my order was filled and shipped. They are in California so I believe their word. They made things right by shipping me the freebie free of any charge including shipping costs. The slings are all three doing fine now and I can’t hold anything against the business because they made things right. I will buy from them in the future. The business is Jamie’s Tarantulas. I’m sure everyone knows about them though

Sadly this reminds me of another who was overwhelmed by orders. I got my first tarantula from him at an Expo. It was a Megaphobema robustum female. Shout out to Critter Keeper's bad job on making the enclosure..... it didn't lock correctly and it escaped. I am sure it is dead or still living in my apartment walls 2 years later. I am still a happy owner of 8 tarantulas ( my max is 10 btw). Fear Not is still my #1. I know they send out a lot and are extremely busy but they do a fantastic job. My Caribena versicolor came from a RUclipsr who doesn't post anymore. She was fantastic! C. versicolor are the best! Fight me Richard! LOL (Yes I know they are a pain in the beginning, lost two myself, had 5, down to 3)
Yes, I had a problem with them. I didn’t hear back about my purchase after several weeks and reaching out multiple times. I disputed it with my bank and got my money back.
There are both positivity and negativity in life. Both are equally important to know about. People _need_ this knowledge so they know what to avoid.

Crap like this is why I'm so glad I live local to FNT. I had Dustin on FB for ages but ended up deleting him a little over a year ago. Sounds like I made the right choice and dodged a bullet.

Thanks for putting this info out there for the tarantula hobby because too many times buyers get scammed and lose too much money and in a way judge it for yourself and if it seems too shady, avoid the purchase online

What a dick. All the more reason to shout out those reputable dealers that deliver an honest product in a timely fashion. I've had great luck with Arachnoiden, Fear Not, Pinchers and Pokies, Josh's Frogs, Underground Reptiles. They shipped what was advertised, and only had one DOA ever. Thanks for making us aware.

Very similar thing happened to me and many others with 03Arachnids in 2019-2020. Made an order of over $300 for a pre-sale they were doing. Imports. Allegedly their import shipment had massive amounts of losses and they couldn't deliver on most of their shipments. The owner made promise after promise to reimburse or to replace orders, but that kept getting delayed and many people never got their spiders or their money back, and the owner stopped replying to emails. Do NOT deal with 03Arachnids.
About 6 or 7 months ago Dustin told me when he was going through a move he had this lady that was his friend hold on to them for him and he told me she ended up taking them and vanished. I'm not buying it... he's just trash
