hey.
some of you may know me as inanimatemashups. some of you may know me simply as sam.
i started making mashups on youtube around 10 years ago now. it was something that arose from me being a kid that spent a ridiculous amount of time on the internet learning how to create and combine stuff, making cheap edits on youtube and telling little stories. inanimatemashups started off as a side project, a place to contain the countless mashups i'd begun making in my hours not spent at school, or on the weekends. inspired by the precision of smadaleinad, the wordplay of dj earworm, the ability of daniel kim to combine a year into a quick and catchy snapshot, i'd developed my craft in appreciation, learning the techniques the only way i knew how - to copy and adapt.
eventually i found that the music that i loved was not fully represented on youtube. all the bands i'd grown up on were getting a little attention, perhaps, but mashups were very much centred around pop. often, more specifically, pop girls. i wanted to bring the magic of mashups to the music that i was more into at the time - the 1975, my chemical romance, imagine dragons, so many more bands. there was also an excitement to the idea of creating things that fit together despite being jarring conceptually. i don't know how i would have described it then, but i just saw so much potential in it - i adore music, and it gave me a whole new avenue to explore it.
as i continued to post, i began to have more and more people leave comments until eventually, a couple of mashups picked up some steam on youtube. helena baby got fun reactions - other people appreciated the absurdity, and the functionality, that made up much of the joy of producing it. making a mashup album (a set of mashups with each song on an artists' album) around the black parade was rewarding and exciting to me. i knew that those songs posed difficulties in their changing speeds and weird chords, but seeing that nobody had done it as far as i could tell, it was a rush to challenge myself and put something up that didn't exist yet.
having people resonate with my work inspired me to react, and after so many of these chain reactions - we were able to create a little community. most people that found their way to the channel just came by for a video, but some stayed, and those people - you guys - are the reason i kept going for so much of it. some of my greatest joys on the internet have been making shitposts while livestreaming, sharing around the imagine dragons megamix copypasta, and recreating thunder over discord. you guys gave me the platform to experiment and do things that felt new and fresh to me, and dare i say for mashup youtube, at the time. the amount of love and support that's been shown to my mashups is something i'm eternally grateful for. i'm glad to have had the opportunity to reach people through the vein of music like this, and to have the privilege of sharing the stuff i care about to a community that likes it. you guys are the best. really.
thank you to sky, for being the best friend and creative partner i never believed could be possible online. thank you to mystic, jon and jess - it's been great to remain friends following journeys with broken people, and i hope we can still continue (shoutout to dip, jis, xwing and all the others - if you know you know). thanks to rider6 and mixmstrstel, for introducing me to the kingdom all those years ago. thanks to mashred for making time to share files and filters when you never needed to. tim, chris and dan - it's been a joy seeing the imagine dragons community embrace what we've done. shout out to mac reynolds and amy gunn for pulling the strings to save the channel from umg copyright evils. and for that matter, to all of you, that were so incredibly supportive during that time. shoutout knock monsterr, who i wouldn't have known if not for this - now we make music with so many other cool people i am pleased to be able to call my friends now. shoutout vincent for helping me edit that decade end. shoutout everyone i didn't mention - there are so many friends i've made along the way here it's ridiculous. i'm glad to say i leave with no bad blood for anyone. us mashup artists fight a bit as a group but god damn we come up with cool shit. last of all but absolutely not least, thanks to raheem d, for making the tutorial that really helped get me started on this whole path.
i will never say never, but it's clear to see that in its 7th year, inanimatemashups has had its time. i have since felt that i've done most of what i can with mashups, and have grown into exploring other creative avenues. i make original music by the name gallagath, which i avidly promote, and am also in a band now (we're called the clever references). i also have a visual novel and a real novel in progress, and plans to do youtube in a new form (you'll know about it). as for mashups... for now, i have one more project to share with you all as my last mashup album. at least, for a long while.
forevermore is my goodbye gift. for the life that being inanimatemashups gave me, and for what i hope i've been able to give you. 12 songs that celebrate the essence of everything i've been able to do, and a thank you. for being such a part of my teenage and early adult years for all this time.

This is making me very emotional... I thought I wasn't gonna be but just reading the beginning of the video with the intro of the mashup really hit me hard... It's hard to believe you'll be leaving the world of mashups eventually... After all these years listening to your unexpected and creative mashups, it'll be a big loss seeing you apart from coming up with more wonderful mixes. You indirectly inspired me to try new and crazy ideas that seem that might not work at first but end up being something great.

I remember you made Imagine Dragons Megamix and then that's when I started to subscribe you since 2017. Also, I remember made a timestamps in Imagine Dragons Megamix #2 and I got like thousands of likes.
Also, I glad you put daft punk in megamix because they're my favorite artists and I remember I've kept asking you to make daft punk megamix (and other friends who make mashups and yeah I ain't doing that shit anymore because of spam). Sadly, they are not making music.

Thanks for all the beautiful creations you made, you were definitely a big inspiration for many people including myself, I remember loving your year end mixes because you included songs that other years ends didn't and also I really love your Coldplay megamix (which inspired me for finishing my megamix), it's sooo sad to know that you're leaving and I'll really miss you but I understand that you have to do what makes you happy so I just wish you the best in your life and future projects :)

If i wouldn't find this channel, I would never think mashups could be so good. Thank you for your hard work. For me, you gave the mashups something more than (almost) others. I'd say we're losing a titan, but there'll always be cool mashups and your original work has been pretty interesting so far. So if anything, I'm kind excited to see what comes next! Besides, eleven more mashups after this is hard to shed tears at, especially if they'll be at the level of 12 Months. I still go back and relisten to those sometimes, so it's cool to see you do a similar project to end off on!

Thank you so much for all the wonderful mashups you've done throughout the years. I remember finding you through your Black Parade mashup, and I ended up listening to a ton of other artists because I got into them from the songs that were included. I wish only the best for you in your future and hope you know that positive influence you've had on so many people! I was curious if you might end up re-uploading some of the mixes from your second channel that ended up getting unlisted. I know one of my favorite mixes you've ever done is the 20 Dollar Rover (FOB & The Chainsmokers + Halsey). I know there was some issue with copyright or something around that time and you had remove a bunch of songs and had issues with your channel due to copyright and things getting taken down, so if not no worries! Just thought i'd ask. Either way can't wait to listen to the rest of the album!
These past few days have really shown me how much I've done and I've just been incredibly flattered at the amount of love I've received...
