  • Andrea Cassarà is an Italian fencer who has won 3 medals in Olympic Games. Andrea started fencing when he was 5 years old. His Olympic debut happened in Athens 2004. That time he took individual bronze and gold in teams. Andrea’s preparation includes boxing because it brings a similar filling of distance and improves physical strength. The career peak occurred from 2010 till 2013 years. During that time, he managed to finish each season as a number one in the world ranking. In 2015, He was diagnosed with tennis elbow and was unable to compete during the first half of the 2015/16 season. However, he still made the national team for Rio Olympics. He had doubts about continuing in the sport following the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio after he was knocked out of the men's individual foil competition in the round of 16. He then began working with a mental coach who helped to start enjoying the process more than the outcome. As a result, he came back into the top 5 foil fencers in the world and made his fifth Olympic appearance at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. Andrea is passionate about fencing and shares his knowledge with young generations in Scherma Brescia club.
