Well done, sir. Holding a videocam for over an hour couldn't have been easy. Plus, you couldn't really live in the moment and dance/bop. But thanks to you, we can experience Pylon performing in Athens.
Second best live band I've ever seen. Filled the room with sound. Vibrated right to your bones. Raw energy, total fun. Almost felt like a dance trance. In case anyone asks, the best was Rage against the Machine at Raji's LA.
The first show I saw in Athens was Pylon at the 40 Watt. You are right - they had a real intensity live. Punk wave or whatever you want to call it. I saw them a few times when they made that comeback. I don't think they ever cared to make it big.
Ah, Pylon! ❤ Thank God for REM back in the day. They don't get enough credit for championing American Indie bands in the press. They turned me onto so many regional American bands. I became a lifelong REPLACEMENTS fan after Peter Buck raved about them. PYLON, of course, were one of those bands. What a cool, undersung band. CHOMP and GYRATE were incredible musical documents of that era. American College radio in the early-mid 80's was more or less curated by REM! Brit bands were cool, but US Underground bands were BETTER!
Completely agree. The underground back then gave us some great stuff. Friend and videoed several Pylon shows back in heheh day and followed them all over. I grew up near Chattanooga back then. Check out one of my faves from then called Hank chattapunk.bandcamp.com/album/150-lb-commotion and I’ve put a few videos up of them.
One of the great Athens bands I never got to see live. And now thanks to the interwebtubes, I can experience what had to be one of their last concerts. Many thanks for uploading this!
if you get a chance, catch Pylon Re-enactment Society - they're playing out and about lately and even some new music - it's Vanessa with some very talented musicians
what's the name of the song they're playing around 48 minutes? I'm relatively new to this band, but they're genius. I don't know how I missed them: I was 15 when they played this set.
Yes I believe it is- one of the greatest rock clubs ever!!! Now that I have watched this more I believe it may be the Washington St. Version of the club.

I used to go to all of the Pylon shows at the 9:30 Club in D.C

the song is called crazy. It was famously covered by R.E.M. on dead letter office and often on their 1989 tour.
I was 15 too. Born 6/20/75
LIKE............... Athens, GA, in Atlanta
