- As we approached the typical retirement age, we realized we didn't want to retire. But we didn't want to put off our dreams of living abroad and traveling the world, either. In this video, we share our story of why we said no to retirement and decided to move to Portugal, work remotely, and slow travel instead.

I’m retirement age but do NOT want to retire. I can’t take my US job with me because it’s location specific; but I do want to continue to work and I’m currently seeking out ideas.

Same here, but I really don’t like the term “retirement”. Retire in the dictionary means “to lay down”, which I am not ready to do. I prefer the term “Refocus”. A time to adventure, learn and explore, and encourage others to do the same.

Really enjoying your videos- thank you! Something I have yet to find from any expat is how they are handling taxes, both US and Portuguese. Care to share?
Thanks for watching @victorianardone3813 and taxes are a thing regardless of the country you may move to. We have an accountant in the US who also has clients who live in Portugal and we have an accountant in Portugal as well. It takes some coordination because as US citizens we have to declare income and pay taxes regardless of where it’s earned or where our residency is…but we get a tax credit for taxes paid to Portugal for its taxes on any appropriate income. Practically speaking, we file an extension in the U.S., then the Portuguese filing takes place by June, we pay Portuguese taxes in August and then file the U.S. after making adjustments. I know there are people who do it themselves and they must be amazing. We, however, need to rely on experts :). Thanks for watching!!
i can imagine your script saying each of your names to what part you're saying on camera..... however the video could be cut in half dawns face is shinny and giving the impression of much different lighting and could be a different video where Matts face is not shinny at all again giving a sense of different lighting.... now i realize the lighting isn't different but subconsciously
gives the view an impression of separation................... however your daytime videos that show natural light from behind matt and room light or artificial light from dawns side is an example of two different lighting sources. but overall straight and simple set up that works for now keep up your good work
