Roger did a lot of country style novelty songs in the 60's & had a lot of hits such as "Dang Me", "Chug-a-Lug", "Do-Wacka-Do", "You Can"t Roller Skate With A Buffalo Herd", "Engine Engine Number 9", "England Swings" etc. He also wrote & performed several of the songs (Oo-De-Lally) for the 1973 Disney animated film "Robin Hood".
Gosh, I was still a baby when this one came out! I got to see "Robin Hood" in the cinema when it first came out though - loved _Oo-de-Lally_ and _Not_ _in_ _Nottingham..._
Roger Miller was such a good singer/songwriter and this is such a good song. He had such a hard childhood but wrote such up-beat songs. Rest in peace Mr. Miller - you're still missed.

The fade was a very normal, widely used thing in 50s , 60s music of virtually every genre. Back then we didn't give it a second thought. Love you J+J. Love your channel. There was so much really good music we just took it for granted. Maybe you could do something like a Throwback Thursday. Just a thought. Cream, Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf. Warning Wednesday? I played this song in 6th grade band... I thought Miller's music and narration was perfect for Disney's Robin Hood. BTW, while driving from Delaware to Arizona, did you use I-40 through Oklahoma? If you did, way out in western Oklahoma, you would have passed by the small town of Erick, OK, birthplace of Roger Miller. There are billboards announcing that, but if you didn't know who he was, it was just another billboard. RIP

ok. I was 16 years old when this came out, and I loved it so much I went and bought the Album. I had to hie it under my mattress as I would have gotten beat if my parents found it. My daddy used to play this all the time. He left our family in 1967 to become his own person and a merchant marine. He never came back but I would play this hoping he would somehow hear me and know I still loved him and he was my hero. He had a turbulent violent childhood and my mom too. They had to separate or the worst would've happened to one of them. But he always wrote me and would send me beautiful jewelry and gifts from all around the world. I was able to see him one last time in 1993 and he met his 2grandsons. It was heaven sent as he passed 1 month later. No hard feelings just adoration and I was in the us army and when he said how proud he was of me and how well I was raising my boys alone, I lost it emotionall. Then his last words to me were I've always loved you my precious ladybug and he said thank you for caring and coming to visit. He was all alone, but I told him he's never been alone, God was with him and so was my love for him. And that was it until I red his eulogy. I forgave him for everything and had no anger, it was his life to live,his way and I knew how much he loved me. I was and still am his only little girl. I miss him and this song always brings my daddy back home to me. Nothing but pure love. The for your time travelling journey. Bless you both.
