I'm a Z fanatic so I might be a little biased here, but the 370z is one badass car and it is definitely worth the money. I traded my 350z in last year for a 2009 Chicane Yellow 370z (sports + touring package) and the difference was night and day. Every day I get compliments, stares, thumbs up, you name it. Great little car. The GT-R is certainly an incredible engineering feat and a sick ride, but I wish it looked sexier and offered a manual transmission. I love both cars however.
Yea I agree I think if it was a auto Z it would of been quicker taking your hand off the wheel to shift down before a corner it just is slower. And lol I saw someone say the 370 is bulky compared to the 350z... do you know the 370z is actually shorter and lighter then the 350...Jesus some people are clueless
370z is about 500 lbs heavier than the 350z I've owned both and know this for a fact

You're an idiot. I've owned both and the 370Z is 97 lbs. lighter than the 350 (2006-2009) and 44 lbs. heavier than the 2003-2005 model. you're either trolling or lying or both. The GT-R is 500 lbs heavier, not the 370Z MORON!!!
I love my 370Z. She is Pearl White with a sports package. Great handling. Fun to drive. Fine looking. A true Show Stopper!. Worth the money!

@PijnigeR i love my 300zx i had back in college. It was a 7 yrs old pre-owned tt produced in 1990. so many good memories with it. It only cost me 15000 US dollars to buy. Had to sell it when I graduated and left the country back to Thailand. But every once in a while when I see one here (rare) I still smile because it STILL is a great car. It is a legend. Glad for you driving an award winning Z.
from what I can tell everyone is wanting to install oil coolers but nissan won't honor any existing warranty if you do install your own, whether it's a complete aftermarket kit or one you piece together yourself.
when I was looking for 370's, I was looking for the sport package, I made sure it was the 1st gen body style as the newer fangless, bling wheels, and auto tranny just don't do it for me. And the 350/370 convertible looks goofy as hell.
but in the end I got an 05 s2000, don't regret it
I'm a Z guy! I've had a 80 Fairlady Z, two 75 280Z's, 2004 350Z roadster and now 2009 370Z Nismo edition. I love em!!!
You can really see the difference in the racing lines from Sam (the magazine editor) in comparison to Roger (the race car driver).
...They both did well, but I was amazed to see how well Roger took on the turns.

I bought a 2011 Nissan 370Z Touring, and I love it. It's the best car for the money. I'm actually waiting on the 2014 GTR to arrive so that I can pre-order. Nissan is the best to be besides Lamborghini. I plan to send my GTR to AMS and bump it up to 1000hp or better. But I'm definitely keeping my Z. Big ups to Nissan on both cars!!!

I love American Muscle cars....I've had a bunch....I am starting to like the Nissan cars. I have a G35 coupe....it's fun to drive. Now I'm gettin interested in the 2011 Ford Mustang Cobra.

Is it just me or did it seem like neither of them used the sync match feature in the Z? In case some of you who don't know, that's where the Z rev matches for you on downshifts while braking but with the heel toe technique.
$85K USD for GTR. Those BS 09 Model year who's mark up is over $20~40K USD still have their car sitting in the garage or dealership lot. Lots of Dealer have lowered the price to MSRP. So now would be the time to buy GTR if u ask me. Same can't be said in Canada cause Nissan Canada only allocated 150cars across the country. So it's a lot harder to buy GTR even if u have the money. Not too sure about 2010 model, it might have a slight bump in numbers.
@leanlifter you can say whatever you want to say about it is 'now'....but memory recalls that when 300zx was out in 1990 it was car of the year in almost every major car mag. But that was 11 yrs ago and you were a middle school kid i wouldn't really expect you to know much about it.
@leanlifter like i said i don't expect you to understand the ownership of an import but back in the days for many Americans just like you cruising in a Z or a Supra it really meant something. A Mustang of the same time was a rental, a disaster.
the only reason the prices are so high is because so many people want them. its not that they couldnt be sold for that price without a profit, its just that they can charge that much and ppl will still buy them.
All of you who wrote "I think the Z would of had a better time if it was auto vs stick are complete morons." There is a reason why race cars/indie/formula are all manual and not auto and the reason is you can not down shift in a auto for a force of RMS to ramp up the speed again. A auto is a seemless smooth transition into RMS and gear shifts. A manual allows you to drop into lower gears at will to throw your head back and get a burst of speed when needed. The bottom line is on any tract that requires more than going in a straight line a manual will ALWAYS out preform a auto.

You seem to be confused.
Indy/Formula cars are automatic (or to use the term coined by Formula 1, semi-automatic). You know the paddle shifter? That means it's automatic. It's mostly the GT cars in sports car racing that still use an old fashioned clutch pedal and stick, everything else in racing these days is automatic.
The GT-R's automatic and the Z performs better with an automatic transmission in normal driving; not drifting of course.
Even many of the GT class cars w/o paddles in series like American Le Mans use sequential transmissions, so you cannot select an arbitrary gear despite having a stick.
MrGencyExit64 Paddle shifters are not automatic transmissions. They use a dual clutch box. Also, Paddle shifters/manuals change gears when the flywheel separates from the clutch opening up the next gear box and automatics use sprockets to shift.
So in conclusion a semi-automatic equal a manual transmission because if you do not manually shift the gear yourself you will be stuck in X gear until you blow your transmission.
Toney Liakakis That's flat out wrong. The 370z A/T comes standard with paddles and a manual +/- sequential shiftgate on the gear select. While it does automatically downshift when you get down to 1000 RPM, it won't automatically upshift in the A/T configuration and you'll bounce off the rev limiter unless you tap the right paddle or poke the gear select up.
You can downshift any time you want in the GTR and 370z's automatic transmissions. But it is sequential in both cars. Heck, my old Altima even let me do sequential "gear shifts" between a virtual 6 gear transmission on its CVT if I stuck it in manual mode.
The GTR is a double clutch with paddles, but the presence of paddle shifters has got nothing to do with that. And DCTs are automatic transmissions in my book because you never engage the clutch with your foot.
MrGencyExit64 You never engage the clutch with your foot because in dual gear shift boxes the ECU causes the clutch to release when you switch gears. The clutch is still being released just like a manual and the only difference is the comp does it for your foot. They are manual transmissions a prime example is it's called "Manual Mode" in your Altima's CVT transmission when you want to shift the gears yourself, although CVTs lack gears. A CVT runs off of bands. Just like a automatic runs off of sprockets, meanwhile a manual runs off of gears and that's why paddle shifting cars are manuals and not automatic. Hell, use a hand gun as an example an semi-automatic hand gun is a manual pulled hand gun because it looks the automatic spring to leave the trigger off. In other words, if you have to do the work yourself it's not an automatic, but manual.
The GT-R's biggest advantage in this video would be tires. AWD is dead weight on a prepared track. Note that in Super GT, the racing GT-R's are naturally aspirated V8 cars with rear wheel drive. That should say something.
Top spec 370Z has the rev-synchro feature, I would say they did not use heel-toe on this. If you watch the video again, you would know its the rev-synchro.....
@PijnigeR so u have 300zx tt? can i see all the mods u have?? i liked z series from the beginning, but i think that they are looking worse and worse after 300z lol. 350 was ok then 370 just got ruined haha. how much did u put into ur car? how much psi? if u don't mind, that is.
What does he mean "so many corners"? I had the luck to drive my car on the Nurburgring Nordschleife last week. That one has 178 corners LOL.
What I can strongly recommend to anyone driving on tracks from time to time, or even more important as a beginner is to drive the same track in fairly good made racing games (GT5, NTS Shift, rFactor, GTR2, etc).
... Although not a reference for the speed or movement of the car, AT LEAST you'll know the sequence of the corners and the line to aim for.

@blackLAhat lol subzero is right. the 370z is bother shorter and lighter. you cant really say its bulkier than the 350z. it is a bit wider tho, if thats what youre trying to say
can anyone tell me about the maintenance and upkeep of the 370z, do you have to do anything special to it, to keep it running in top condition, also can anyone tell me about common problems associated with this particular car, Thanks. I am trying to decide between a lexus is 350 and of course the 370 z. My wife likes the lexus better. I like the z better myself, I welcome anyones opinion.. Thanks

sway bars will get rid of body roll much, much more than springs... in fact. i'd leave the springs alone and get a good set of sway bars...

And build the motor and maybe even improve stability for a bit extra.
that body roll looks pretty horrible though...needs some stiffer springs if its gonna be lapping on top of that oil cooler. TT the Z, brakes are good already with those pretty brembos, stiffen the suspension(i like TEIN), throw it on some lightweights and you have a perfect weekend lapper. Its gorgeous.
Are Akebono's good? They're not as mainstream as Brembo.

they designed the car to use a smart awd system, if you turn off the computers you defeat the purpose of the car so turning them off doesn't prove anything. it doesn't hide bad driving, otherwise a professional and an amateur would post the same times. a somewhat experienced person still can't match a professional with a gtr, so you still need skills to do good. its just very easy to drive in comparison to others.
I know there not in the same category but I can see why some people would compare them.For real I'll take a Mustang over both of them because it suits me better.
I can't remember the exact pricing of the GT-R but it's a rough estimate of $76,000 - $80,000
If I couldn't afford a GTR then the 370Z is my first call to buy a new car it's just awesome...

I think the manual in the Z slowed the time down. Given an automatic, they would of been closer.
i did look up gtr sales for shits and giggles one night and did find a few places that sold it for msrp, but in a few years that shouldnt be a big problem

Go Z I'm also a 370z owner and what a car it is. I'm telling you it's harder to drive a Z fast than a GTR fast. All those electrics in GTR practically drives its self haha.

i think the only REAL difference between the two is the GT-R is is more powerful and AWD. Other than that and fanciness, they are pretty similar even in style. and the Z is tons of money less that the GT-R. Im buying a Z.
Yes it MIGHT keep up with the GT-R if you spent the extra money. But then engine life on the Z would heavily reduce. The GT-R is made to handle that sort of power. AWD electronic launch is better than RWD all day. You can argue putting whatever engine into whatever car and what the results MIGHT be, but who cares. If you were going to spend the extra money anyways, you could put an LFA engine in an S2000 that would kill both. The video is comparing the cars at stock. Not shoulda coulda woulda.

GT-R is the faster car no doubt
BUT the 370Z is truly amazing and for 33K (sport pck equipped) it is easily better then anything else in its price range (not to mention it eats cars that cost twice as much alive on the track). the new camaro, mustang, any other muscle car, evo X, sti, none of them match the Z period.
runs the same 1/4 as the 400+hp camaro and out handles it by so much it is not hard to see which one is the better car.

and that a GT-R is basicly a computer on wheels. It basicly hides bad driver, if you turn off all those gadget ( wich you can ) its almost impossible to drive. GT-R vs 370z is not a apple to apple battle.
Just think about this, if u put twin trubo in the Z, wounldn't it be almost the same horse power of the gtr. It might even be fatser because stock turbo vs aftermartker tubo, well stock tubo will lose most of the time
If they put the GTR's engine in the 370Z, it could not only beat it, it would be cheaper as I'd not pay for those extra rear seats only a baby could use. It could possibly go as fast as the Buggatti Veyron and all of the those other 'supercars'.

and if you put the rest of the money you wouldve spent in to a gtr, you can instead put it into upgrades! which will make it faster all around

@Scarified2012 well both i think look aggressive but the 370z has a more muscle car look where as the gtr looks like a high end bad ass street racer but in terms of handling i disagree with them the GTR grip is just plain insane for a 3.8 with nearly 500hp the grip is just superb .The 370z has only 330hp besides think about it if the GTR was hard to control how on earth could they beat a 1000bhp buggati veyron on nurburgring?? food for thought =) btw i feel these drivers are slow :P

yeah... well... a new track. all that. and that was one lap. a real race (were the GT-R belongs) takes place over many many many laps... and .7 seconds a lap is hard to come by sometimes. this was a disappointing test for both cars.

It may sometimes seem that way but I've met plenty of Asian people that could drive. I'm not Asian by the way so its not like I'm defending Asians because I'm one but I have some friends that are Asian and they drive pretty well.
That's a lie the Camaro runs a 13 sec 1/4 @ 111mph.The 370z 1/4 is 13.3 @ 105mph,there close but not the same.
