- Yay we are back!!!
This week's video was inspired by a picture that has been circulating in the Zimbabwean community with a woman saying "iwe" as a warning. We saw this picture and were rolling on the floor laughing because it reminded us how simple the Shona language is. So we went ahead and did our version of this with all the little phrases, sounds and sayings we grew up hearing.
Obviously we didn't get to every saying and we may have left some out, so if we did, please go ahead and comment below with them tiseke tese guys!
We put the English version 1st and then the Shona as a comparison.

I got back from Zimbabwe a couple months ago, and hearing "iwe" in the video cracked me up. I heard that so many times with the kids and the cows, I just had no idea this was it meant lol

Isusu = Isu = us/we
As prefixes
U-/Wa- = you
Nda-/Ndi-/Ndo- = me/I
Va-/Ma- = you (plural)/ them
Ta-/Ti-/To- = us/we

Do you mean that in a negative way like you don't like Shona. Cos that's sad honestly too many Zimbas have no pride in their culture - everyone else does, hameno, in future people will regret it. I tell you. Exalting of English ways is sad. Whether what I say applies to you or not that's okay, but it applies to a lot of people.

'hi hi hi" is present al over Africa lol. We use it in Angola too, specially in the south. the meaning is exactly the same lol

I enjoyed this lesson. I have just started learning Shona just for fun with some friends from Zimbabwe. I like your video as it focus on communication skills and not just on isolated words out of context. The expressions that you teach in this video express non only their meaning but also the emotions that accompany their uses. Congratulations and keep it up girls.

Hello Shona. I am an American and have been to Zimbabwe twice for five weeks each time . I speak American English. The Zimbabweans primarily speak the Mashona (Shona) language but at least about 80% can understand and speak English as well. I did enjoy learning some Shona while there but I didn't stay long enough to become fluent. You must go and visit the country, especially since your name is Shona. I LOVED my time spent there and plan on visiting for a third time in March 2018.
