The world is big enough for two excellent black groups. I love Jodeci and Boyz II Men. I'm grateful to have both groups play the background music to my childhood and late night phone conversations with my girlfriends. Lol! Both groups were outstanding, both left lasting impressions and great legacies. With that being said.....Jodeci is my favorite group of all times!
It'll always be a debate but I'll end the debate: Jodeci was a band, Jodeci lyrics were written by DeVante and occasionally Dalvin and K-Ci, DeVante arranged and produced their music, Dalvin played percussion, DeVante played the keys and strings, JoJo and K-Ci vocalized. PERIOD!!! Jodeci4Life
Jodeci > Boyz II Men. Boyz II Men were amazing but Devante Swing's production is on another level. Wanya Morris could sing, but I prefer KCi and Jojo more.

B2M used big producers like Babyface and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis to pen and produce all their hits. Jodeci transcended boundaries with their appeal, swag, musical abilities, arrangements and harmony. Their influence can still be heard today in both Rnb and hiphop. They were out the box thinkers and made and created a lane for themselves. B2M followed the traditional sense and appeal All4One and many other groups followed that lane and Jodeci kept it real, street, grimey and freaky lol #legends

People forget Jodeci first sing was Gotta Love, an upbeat dance song that nobody wanted to listen too.

Jodeci was really the 1st singing GROUP... not solo singer.... but group to use that gospel sound and translate it to contemporary r&b. Of course Ray Charlse and Sam Cook where the inventors of that sond but Jodeci and them damn Hailey brothas took it to a new level!

Jodeci over B2M all day everyday. K-Ci can out soul anyone on a microphone, and Jo-Jo's vocals were always smooth. Devante and Dalvin added the lower notes in their ridiculous harmonies,, Dalvin added the raps, Devante was/is the dopest producer, and he and Dalvin could actually play instruments. To the poster above that kept arguing that they were truly a duo and not a quartet, they were neither. They were a band/group. and all 4 played a part in their success.

Jodeci's 'sing over hip hop beats' music has aged better. Boyz II Men tried to incorporate hip hop into their music, with limited success. Boyz II Men's strengths were in R&B Pop Ballads that while great for their time, don't sound as fresh as 'Diary of a Mad Band' sounds today.
In the singing department it was definitely Jodeci I mean Wanya is good but compared to ki Ci & jo jo Wanya could not bang like those two. Boys 2 men had a slight edge over Jodeci & most groups with their bass singer Michael give them that signature sound as far as harmony goes. Ok this is the Tale of The Tape like in boxing Boyz II Men as a whole are better singers then Jodecis individual singers Boyz II Men all them can and do sing lead on songs. But Jodeci, Kci and Jojo especially at this time were so great of singers it really didn't show as a weakness on their part as a group. And nobody in B2M can match the song writing and production of Devante and Dalvin arrangement of the vocals nobody in B2M can match just Devante by himself. And as regards performing. I mean B2M will sound heavenly but with Jodeci you gonna get a show lol
I'm just glad I was around when both of these groups came out. We loved both of their music. Boyz II Men appealed to a much wider audience due to having cleaner songs and image aka White Folks liked them...Jodeci on the other hand flat out kept it real...A little too real as we later found out. Their songs were too edgy and soulful for the mainstream. Both influenced 112 and Jagged Edge respectively (similar differences)...Dru Hill is a little of both. At any rate and by admission they're all are a branch off of New Edition's tree as with New Kids on the Block, Nsync, 98°, Backstreet Boys etc...

I would argue that had Jodeci went 1st, Boyz 2 Men wouldn’t have the same energy from crowd as Jodeci! Jodeci was talent, raw, & they had sex appeal for the ladies. Boyz 2 Men was a great group as well but they were more “polished”.
I swear when Casey turn around and pulled his pants down to sagg his pants. The very next day it became a thing to do! I was in elementary school. Before that day, ironing your clothes with the crease in your pants was a thing. I truly believe Casey and Jojo are the reason the sagging the pants started.
Boyz II Men are "The Carpenters" of black music. Totally wholesome, and didn't age well. Jodeci on the other hand was on the bleeding edge of what would later become today's R&B or in BBD terms, "Hip Hop smoothed out".
See, here's the thing about Jodeci and Boyz II Men. One is light, the other is heavy. One is street, the other not so much. One wanted to be bad, one wanted to be good. One had pop appeal, on had black appeal. One is still around today, one is fragmented and full of drug abusers and really bad facial tattoos.
Yeah its really sad. I have different reasons for loving both groups. Jodeci was smooth, had great beats, appealed more to the women, and had some freak jams whereas Boyz II Men is soft, can truly harmonize and made being in love seem so special. I wish Jodeci made better decisions, but looking at many artists drugs and alcohol fucked up their careers. Especially artists like Bobby Brown who really took off but let drugs get in the way.
Oh yeah, that's no lie. I feel bad for artists who fall into that trap, because it ruins careers. I mean, Bobby's bounced back, as well as a 45 year old man can, and so have K-Ci and JoJo, but it'll never be the same for them. I'm just thankful the boys in NE helped Bob get back on the right path.
Seeing a New Edition concert is on my bucket list. I'm a big fan of the new jack swing, Bobby specifically, so I'm hoping I get the chance. I like Johnny, but he strikes me as a little "off." But he can sing for sure.

Boyz II Men as a whole are better singers then Jodecis individual singers Boyz II Men all them can and do sing lead on songs. But Jodeci, Kci and Jojo especially at this time were so great of singers it really didn't show as a weakness on their part as a group. And nobody in B2M can match the song writing and production of Devante and Dalvin arrangement of the vocals nobody in B2M can match just Devante by himself. And as regards performing. I mean B2M will sound heavenly but with Jodeci you gonna get a show lol
I'm just glad I was around when both of these groups came out. We loved both of their music. Boyz II Men appealed to a much wider audience due to having cleaner songs and image aka White Folks liked them...Jodeci on the other hand flat out kept it real...A little too real as we later found out. Their songs were too edgy and soulful for the mainstream. Both influenced 112 and Jagged Edge respectively (similar differences)...Dru Hill is a little of both. At any rate and by admission they're all are a branch off of New Edition's tree as with New Kids on the Block, Nsync, 98°, Backstreet Boys etc...
Good point, funnily enough i always thought Dru Hill took on from jodeci, 112 took on from Boyz 2 men, and Jagged Edge took on from H-Town.

I would argue that had Jodeci went 1st, Boyz 2 Men wouldn’t have the same energy from crowd as Jodeci! Jodeci was talent, raw, & they had sex appeal for the ladies. Boyz 2 Men was a great group as well but they were more “polished”.

Boyz II Men are "The Carpenters" of black music. Totally wholesome, and didn't age well. Jodeci on the other hand was on the bleeding edge of what would later become today's R&B or in BBD terms, "Hip Hop smoothed out".

See, here's the thing about Jodeci and Boyz II Men. One is light, the other is heavy. One is street, the other not so much. One wanted to be bad, one wanted to be good. One had pop appeal, on had black appeal.
One is still around today, one is fragmented and full of drug abusers and really bad facial tattoos.
Yeah its really sad. I have different reasons for loving both groups. Jodeci was smooth, had great beats, appealed more to the women, and had some freak jams whereas Boyz II Men is soft, can truly harmonize and made being in love seem so special. I wish Jodeci made better decisions, but looking at many artists drugs and alcohol fucked up their careers. Especially artists like Bobby Brown who really took off but let drugs get in the way.
Oh yeah, that's no lie. I feel bad for artists who fall into that trap, because it ruins careers. I mean, Bobby's bounced back, as well as a 45 year old man can, and so have K-Ci and JoJo, but it'll never be the same for them. I'm just thankful the boys in NE helped Bob get back on the right path.

Seeing a New Edition concert is on my bucket list. I'm a big fan of the new jack swing, Bobby specifically, so I'm hoping I get the chance. I like Johnny, but he strikes me as a little "off." But he can sing for sure.
