I recently bought this lens used for my sony cameras. I love it. It doesnt feek heavy. Quickly focuses. Sharp. Great colors. And inexpensive. I use it for weddings, landscapes, and even environmental portraits.
I have this lens. I love it, it is pretty sharp and does great in low light. There are things to know though : the autofocus is not super reliable, and the furthest focus point is beyond infinity, so for Astro I recommend using the focus magnifier. Otherwise, it’s a good lens for it’s price.
This lens has some issues with updating the firmware. No explanation anywhere that actually it can't be updated via the c-port on a computer but only through the Viltrox phone app. Even there the process is not straightforward and the camera does not read properly the firmware version.
I thought I was seeing things when I noticed Peterborough on the video! I struggle to find new things to shoot here, need to get back out to Cambridge soon though!
Peterborough is a tough place to shoot these days. There's really not much to shoot. Cambridge has much more variety - so long as you don't pick a rainy day like I did! 😅
@TomCalton I agree for sure, 14 years ago, it used to be great to shoot, come rain or shine. But the council just doesn't bother hosting events like they used to. The Italian Festival used to be incredible, same with the Christmas lights and decorations. Lincoln is worth a shot if you haven't shot there, rain days especially will create some beautiful shots.
Unfortunately, it's likely they won't be come back anytime soon, Tom realized that the videos do well enough on their own without having him hire and pay a model which you have to schedule and only have an hour or 2 to get the shots you need. (Or asking one his friends but that also has scheduling issues) Maybe when the video start taking a dip he would go back to the girl baiting thumbnails and photoshoot. Only Tom knows
I love taking portraits, but as the other commenter correctly suggested, there are a lot of logistics and additional costs involved. I like being able to just head out and take photos by myself, whenever I feel like it, rather than being forced to be creative at a specific time and date. I definitely want to take more portraits, though, so who knows, I might go back to it at some point. But not to the level I was at before.
The issue with lens reviews (for my channel at least) is that they don't generate large numbers of views and therefore do not generate enough income through Google adsense to warrent creating them (as much as I actually like doing them). As this is now my full-time job, I unfortunately do need to think more carefully about what videos I create, as just 1 month of bad viewership could cause serious financial problems for me and my family. That's just the nature of this business. In this particular instance, however, Viltrox kindly offered to subsadise the loss of views/income by sponsoring the video, which takes some of the finanacial worry out of the equation. It's important to stress that I ONLY agreed to this arrangement as we were able to come to a deal which I felt didn't jeopardise the integrity and fairness of the review (full discloseure statement can be found in the video description). So, in answer to your question, I honestly had no intention of creating any more full length lens reviews, and still don't, unless one or more of the following happens: A) viewership for this type of content dramatically increases. B) Google adsense payouts are increased. C) I can secure further sponsorship deals that are able to offset the finanacial risk without (and this is THE MOST important part) jeopardising the integrity of the test. Sorry for the long reply but it's a pretty complicated situation, one that I'm fairly new to and still learning how to navigate correctly.
@@TomCaltonI appreciate a long explanation than merely ignoring my question. That’s completely understandable and as a viewer, it’s great to see a content creator knowing what his channel needs and not merely making content to make content. Thanks!
@@TomCalton I haven't tested it yet either. :-D But everything I've seen and read has been extremely good. I'm even considering swapping it for my 14mm GM because of size and the ability to use filters

Viltrox products have come on leaps and bounds over the last few years 👌🏻
Maybe not… ruclips.net/video/cvlj0XMlUe0/видео.htmlsi=16VGTwGILTnXXqOE
I had to stop what I was doing and process the last few words
🤣
It’a been my money maker for my real estate shots. It even replaces my 15-35 gm lens

WIDER
🤣🤣🤣
Well son, you clearly had a wide angle view on life. And here you are!
Mama! I thought you'd left me! 🫶🏻
Great review as always. Viltrox have upped their game recently. When I see this lens though I just wish Alyn Wallace was still here.
Thanks Dave! You're right - they're quickly becoming the new Sigma, IMO!
Really dig that electronic distance scale screen- hope they make more lenses with that, or just a good old fashioned manual distance scale!
Literally spat my drink at that last line LOL 🤣
Mission accomplished 😎
“Stereotypically British”. Surprised you held back mate! I’m snapping!
Honestly, the weather here is bs at the moment 🙃
@@TomCalton it’s so bad. Surrey here feels like the Canadian version in winter.

Can you burst shoot and look how many are in focus?
Awesome Review, Brother Tom, and your photos are 🔥, man!! Much Appreciated
Thanks dude, I really appreciate your kindness! 🫶🏻

I have been lurking around this lens for a while now, maybe someday soon...

Bring back girls photoshoot tom! Lol.

I was so happy about the absence of penal jokes right up to last second
Technically, it was a joke about big arses at the end, so I don't think that counts 😅
The only lens I’ve ever bought that was junk out of the box. Faulty AF. Returned it. YMMV.
I thought you weren’t going to do anymore lens reviews? I asked you about that with the night walker lenses -

What about Canon RF?
Not currently
Bring it to us over on l-mount 😣
This lens would be good if it wasn't so big.
For sony users I would recommand the tiny Sony apsc 11mm 1.8 in crop mode instead.
I've not tested the 11mm - how's the image quality?

do they make f mount lens for nikon?
It's currently only available in Sony E and Nikon Z mounts I'm afraid
