This is seriously one of the best songs ever. fuckin love soundgarden.
I agree!. Incredible band, awesome song,Chris was so young, darn. I mourn his death daily, endlessly. Love Soundgarden, worship this band, really
I agree 100%. Radio, and sometimes MTV in those days, were the only places to hear new music when it first came out. I still remember the feeling I had the first time I heard this song on my car stereo. The great & iconic songs usually take a couple listens before you realize the song is special. This song I realized immediately was extraordinary. People say Nirvana opened the door for "alternative" music but it was actually Louder than Love, an album that dropped two years before Nevermind, that pushed past musical barriers because it was not like anything else at the time.
@@jamesalan3450 exactly!
There first, thank you (Susan silver)
From 89-94 Soundgarden was peerless.....easily the best band on the planet, the only other band from that era who comes close is Tool
I had the privilege in personally meeting CC at the Edmonton International airport on July 24, 2016. Just us 2 dudes having a conversation about music and of his upcoming planned re-union tour with his old band mates of Soundgarden. As we wrapped up a few minute conversation, he gifted me his guitar pick from his performance from the night previous, we shook hands and I went on my Merry way!! Thanks for that moment Chris and more importantly, for your HUGE contribution to music that truly defined my generation. RIP brother.
@Roman Black
No
I watched CC get 86'd from a bar in West Seattle. He was in a foul mood & was slapping the beer taps then he smacked one hard enough to cause all four taps to fully open. The bartender, ol biker chick we called Red, was pissed of course & immediately told him to get the fuck out. He did. Didn't say a word just got up & bounced. We said Red do you realize who you just kicked out? She said I DON'T GIVE A F*** IF IT WAS JESUS F****** CHRIST! YOU DON'T DISRESPECT MY BAR LIKE THAT. Like we was gonna argue with her lol. This was in the mid 90s. True story. Name of the bar is the Poggie...
Ok now I remember, CC was slapping a bartop video game. That's what he smacked hard enough to spin around, hit the beer taps hard enough to cause all 4 taps to start gushing beer.
@@robertbisson9499 Cool story about CC.. thanks for sharing.
Chris Cornell a awesome singer I remember in 1994, when I was 28,so sad he passed away May Chris Cornell RIP 💐 Glad you got to meet him.
it wasn't even the 90s yet and they already had a masterpece out. louder than love is gigantic.

Wanna meet you dude, to superhigh five ya ! Major score ! Indeed a masterpiece and not even the nineties yet-- perfectly stated ! and It alll overflows from Louder than Love (writing a Book !)
Now that's what im talking about
Bands like Soundgarden and Mudhoney, Black Flag, Peppers, Husker Du, Meat Puppets, creATED the 90’s! They started and finished it.

Oh, that riff.. so simple, yet so powerful. Nothing like the power of soundgarden
It's like a mace of fire boiling in a volcano.
You could conjure something with that riff
The riff has a very “Evenflow” Pearl Jam sort of feel
@@TheMinishKid Very similar rhythm. Glam metal never had a chance when classics like this were on the horizon.

Such an apt metaphor, thanks to these guys.
Chris Cornell also had a foundation for helping *traumatized* children. (I won’t describe or ppl might cry, but…) his foundation is still posted online.
RIP Chris Cornell.
Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron are some of the most underrated artists I have ever known...!
Yes- I've saying that about Matt Cameron for years. Matt especially, doesn't get enough credit. He's a bad ass.
@@lynnettejanuzi Totally agree. I remember trying to learn that tumbling tom-tom beat in Jesus Christ Pose and finally getting it bang on. Then I listened to the song again and there was this hi-hat splash that started in the second verse. I was bloody furious.
"You bastard Cameron!" _{Flings drumsticks in despair}_
Absolutely outstanding drummer. The nineties seemed to have a lot of them.
Geddy Lee played with Neil Peart and chose Matt as his solo album drummer. Any questions???
Kim Thayil was one of the most underrated guitarist of his generation.
He's underrated for the media, but he's extremely respected by the artists and 90 scene. A pionner in many ways!
@@proflucasc stood right in front of him for this album. Chris went over my head in his duct tape shorts.
Like dying soldiers
Nailed it. So many great riffs.
Not true. Kim was average at best. Cornell wrote the music and lyrics, the others came along for the ride.
@@jeremyjames1659 Not true. I'm guessing you just looked at the track listing credits and saw only Chris listed for writing the music and lyrics for burden in my hand, black hole sun, etc. but you're missing the fact that all band members have an impact on a song even if they weren't credited. Thayil wrote a large portion of the guitar riffs. Without his ideas for them many of Soundgarden's songs would have sounded a lot worse. This songs music was written by Kim. Many of the band's earlier music was written by Kim. Soundgarden would certainly have not been as successful without Kim and neither would Chris. The musicians do more than just play music, they influence the song by the way they play it. Chris can't play drums like Matt Cameron, or the guitar like Kim Thayil, or the bass like Hiro or Ben.
Chris is the most satisfying man to watch
I'll second that! such a little hottie! Forever in my heart! I've always loved Chris for being a true arrtist and beautiful soul but im really trippin on his death it's affecting so much and I didn't even know the man but im greving like I did ! This really sucks! R.I.P. 💔
lisa walker I'm with you on that. Trying understand why his death has been so difficult for me and so, so many others who never knew him. I realize his music related to so many people but it seems more than that. I think a lot of it too is that he seemed so down to earth, so humble.....the stardom didn't go to his head and change who he was. I still have a hard time listening to his music. Makes me so sad. I so wish he could have been saved that night. RIP Chris
So fkn right.
Lisbeth lunna Fuck yeah, Chris we miss you! Almost a year still in denial..
dude was like 6'5" or something. There's a pic of him and Serena Williams, and she barely comes up to his shoulders...and she's 5'10".
This song was my introduction to Soundgarden. You never forget your first impression! The Man! The Voice! The Legend!
Yes!!
Yes I agree I remember Chris Cornell in 1991, when I was 25,sad he passed may he RIP💐
Probably my favourite Soundgarden song.
Abhishek Basnyat ya!
I would remove that "probably".
The later live versions of these older songs were so much better. When cc voice grew into what it became. They played it heavier too. Just my opinion
You are probably right! :-)
The best!
Chris Cornell was not merely handsome. He was goddamned beautiful. I still cannot believe that he is dead. #RIP
Yeah his death is one that still hits hard, it was shocking as hell. I remember wondering when he would come out with new material and wondering if soundgarden would have something new and then he was gone, just brutal.

this is soundgarden”s first masterpiece, it contains all the elements they eventually become known for
Awesome group Chris Cornell a awesome singer ❤
I'm absolutely devastated right now. RIP Chris Cornell. He's been one of the most influential and greatest singers in my life and I feel like I lost someone very important to me. You'll be missed..
Such a groundbreaking song. Too bad the mainstream public remembers Soundgarden mostly by "Black Hole Sun". I like it, but it is far from their best song.
I really can't stand Black Hole Sun. It's a shame songs like Fresh Tendrils, Limo Wreck, and Like Suicide don't get more notoriety. Superunknown is excellent from top to bottom.
Mmmmn, Colin knows. Those songs, I bow down. Priceless band and man.
mariazo mailman, slaves and bulldozers, room a thousand years wide and black rain. mwah so good. rip chris
Black Hole Sun is still a masterpiece. It's just always a shame when the mainstream picks up on one song and overplays it to the point where you start to resent it. It's especially disappointing because Soundgarden was one of those bands that was actually FUCKING GOOD, like every single song is a unique, interesting piece of work that stands up on its own. It never felt like they recorded anything just to waste time. I dunno if that makes any sense, but I was listening to Nevermind the other day and the strongest emotion I felt was boredom. It was weird. It was like they were being so sarcastic to the point that they couldn't be bothered writing a decent song. Not one Soundgarden song has made me feel that way. I think Cornell's perfectionism may have something to do with it, but another aspect is that each member was really really excellent in mastering their instrument. They weren't a bunch of bored teenagers who just chose to write a bunch of songs in their spare time in their garage. They lived and breathed that shit.
I just noticed I've been using past tense and it really upsets me.
Donovan Davis Alice in Chains' Facelift and Dirt albums were masterpieces.
Beautiful face, beautiful voice, beautiful talent, beautiful legend.
Yes I agree Chris Cornell is awesome a great singer
I went to a smaller venue in North Carolina to watch Soundgarden during the Louder then Love tour in rhe 80s. It was awesome and same as this video. I blew off studying for a final test at college and got a D- 35 years later im still happy i went Soundgarden.
Cats cradle in chapel Hill?
This song and Loud Love are where Chris really came into his own as a vocalist, giving us a powerful glimpse of the LEGEND he would become. His voice actually got better with age!
Yes this and Loud Love!! Idk though, I think the big impossible changed when Hiro left after Loud Love album…
Crazy to think that 24 years later the sociopolitical themes in the song are still relevant. I think this is one of their most profound tracks. I'm a huge fan
Raspameti sve na planeti :))
Geopolitical? Pretentious?
It was used as break music on Democracy Now! Friday Sept 13 2018 on the coverage of protests at an "environmental meeting" in San Francisco organized by the governor and featuring the usual corporate take on environmentalism.
Yes. Sadly, yes. But I also find it moving. This song.
Also, Hunger Strike; Temple Of The Dog: is an anti-white supremacy, anti-racist/slavery song.
Profound, beyond the world, this album can’t be bested by any band. It changed everything.
One of the best Soundgarden songs!
Best grunge song of all time imo. It's message is loud and clear.
Louder than love even 🤘🏼
Hmmm you can't read the lyrics and figure them out? Humans have their hands all over everything, usually with very adverse results.
Steve K this is a rock song and band not grunge chis said so himself before he died that they were rock
This song is not belong to grunge. Led Zeppelin-Black Sabbath-Stooges-MC5 Folk Hard Rock
the meat puppets are grunge. soundgarden was metal as fuck.
I listen to a lot of rock&metal songs but always, my best band is Soundgarden and my no.1 song is 'Hands All Over'
I listen to this song almost daily and now him being dead is really fucking me up man... RIP Chris.
Same with Scott from stp. Both great singers of the 90s, it's a shame that the best artists live short lives
Me too
I heard it in the movie pacific heights
It still hurts for me too, it feels like we lost a brother.
Hopefully more people will discover this album now. It's always been so underrated. RIP Chris.
Hopefully it will remain an underground gem for the future misfit kids to discover.
Screaming Life / Fopp had excellent SG tunes (Nothing to Say, Little Joe, Hunted Down). UltramegaOK is just freak with "Beyond the Wheel" and beyond! They do all that and then significantly better in the 90s. That's freak!
God he was beautiful from beginning to end! RIP.
Rip to one of the best voices ever!
One of my biggest influences in what I do, Cornell and Buckley, unfortunately both gone :/ If you like their work, there's a big chance you'll like my latest song, Mr. Trickster- The End Of An Era . It is influenced by them, at least vocally.
Sound garden were the best band of the early 90s era. Chris ruled !
I'm sad to say I never knew of this song until earlier this year. I knew their later music but not the earlier ones. I can't quit listening to this; it's so good. I love seeing "baby" Chris. He was so gifted in so many different ways; still hard to know this earth no longer has him in it.
Love this….☝🏼
Loud screaming vocal range, but very quiet and humble kind of man.
90s... that was the ultimate era good fukin music existed
This was 89
Charcoal635 I know, but would you consider this part of the 80's or part of the 90's scene?
Early 90's, I'm just a nitpick haha
+Charcoal635 hehehe!!
Joel F. Ordoñez 80s is better :p

Honestly, the early 90s were the absolute best time to be a 20-year old, and especially in Seattle. It was magic.
It’s just phenomenal
One of my all time favs from Soundgarden
Rest in peace, Chris.
And a salute to the future Sergeant Everman. Thank you for your service.
This song , I feel , is about the EARTH. I'm a huge sound garden fanatic. I sang in 3 bands and always had the songs in our rotation. That riff is soo FUCKIN heavy. I've followed Chris through his career, all good bands buy ,
SOUND GARDEN IS LEGEND
Such a fucking blow. The "Big 4 of Grunge" only has Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder left. Humble brag but I've loved them since I was 6yo in '91. Favorite SONG!!
I said it before and I will say it again. This is my all time favourite grunge song and its sad to think we are never gonna hear Cornell's voice ever again :(
RIP Chris Cornell
That voice... One of a kind.
They are the Black Sabbath of the late 80s and 90s generation. One of the Sabbath members even said in an interview in the early 90s that if they were around in that era instead of the late 60s he would picture them sounding like Soundgarden. One of the best bands of all time.
It would have been tony iommi whom you're referring to

Absolutely my favourite Soundgarden song. This song got me hooked on them when it first started playing way back when.

… is this not one of their most underrated tunes?… But this whole album kicks ass. Underated massively - open, raw and very uplifting

This diamond is our secret. Don't ever forget how blessed we are to have this in our lives.
I fell in love with his distinctive, powerful, and charismatic voice, thanks to the movie Pacific Heights and the track "Hands All Over". I bought the album "Louder Than Love" right after that and have been a fan ever since. Another loss that hits hard. Say Hello 2 Heaven Chris Cornell.
As I sit here with full body goosebumps, I hereby declare this the best song of the grunge era.
Soundgarden is loved and I'm glad to be one of those Lovers

There's something about the mantric looping tune and the passion of his voice that sends shivers up my spine.
Good description at something so devastating
Heck yeah it is!! This song mesmerized me the first time i heard it. I was frozen in place by the beauty, and nothing else in the world mattered in that moment. Great freaking song!!

Mother in this case refers to Mother Earth. This is a song about conservation.
Hands all over the Eastern border
You know what? I think we're falling
From composure
Hands all over Western culture
Ruffling feathers and turning eagles into vultures
Got my arms around my baby brother
Put your hands away
Your gonna kill your mother, kill your mother
And I love her
Hands all over the coastal waters
The crew men thank her
Then lay down their oily blanket
Hands all over the inland forest
In a striking motion trees fall down
Like dying soldiers
Hands all over the peasants daughter
She's our bride
She'll never make it out alive
Hands all over words I utter
Change them into what you want to
Like balls of clay
Put your hands away
Your gonna kill your mother
And I love her
And she loves me
