Singers in India have been doing this waterfall, swirling trills and runs for centuries. All Indian movie playback singers are classically trained. In India we grow up listening to every playback singer using this agile singing technique with fast slides and trills that it is a standard expectation across the board. And if some one does not do it, we are surprised at the lack of skill ( rather than the western reaction where they are surprised when this skill is shown, probably because this style is new to western ears).
I think in India, since classical singers train with sitar, the veena, the flute, which naturally have a more flowing, continuous sound rather than a staccato-ish sound of a piano, it creates a situation where the student singer tries to imitate the same flow and run he/she hears, with his/her voice too.

If you listen to Shreya’s music for any length of time, you will need to replace that Sinatra poster with one of her. She is quite simply the best pop singer who has ever lived, not even close. No one song can do justice to her genius; Rozana does not even touch her ability to swing - think Ella Fitzgerald, only better. Better than Ella? Listen to several hundred of her non-Bollywood songs. There is a really good playlist on Gaana in Malayam, start there.

She starts with the 1st song and then at 3:27 , segues into the next song-- 'rozana', and then again she transitions back to the first song at 4:37 and then very efficiently sneaks into the 2nd song again at 5:41.
