this design is so unique to me bc i like watching gameplays of old versions of bemani series yknow like ddr and pop’n music but the first version of beatmania (being like the first mainstream arcade rhythm game) just feels so surreal and abstract in a way it does feel like more of a music simulation game as it was named originally but like honestly im just glad this game succeeded and led to more konami rhythm games bc without them i probably wouldn’t have the music that i love so much from the ppl working there
My journey started when IIDX RED was released on PS2. I copped 8th Style and shortly after, grabbed IIDX RED. I never had to experience these dark ages of Beatmania (o_0) Never played Beatmania III and the only experience with Beatmania I have is with the American version, HipHopMania. I've always been a IIDX guy.
Towards the end of its lifespan, beatmania and beatmania iii ended up being “just iidx with 5 keys” konami only gave up on 5 key because why make a separate version for 5 key when you could just have a mode on iidx that disables keys 6 and 7
I’ve been playing Beatmania since ‘98 but it wasn’t seen as any kind of dark ages though back then. It was innovative, unique, or maybe catchy, if not a bit janky. Just like any game in a series though, it took steps to improve slowly into what IIDX is today, even if it took decades to get there.
1:59 You can barely see it but right on top of the Konami logo on the center left of the dark grey area below the words "Gradius forever", you can see the word "fuck"
And also in the same song, we see the first appearance of the,at the time unnamed character, Uncle Jam, who would appear proper in the original Pop'n Music

It get so weird that "GET OUT OF THE DANCE FLOOR" was also used by the intro of Dance Dance Revolution 2nd MIX.
Old bemani reused so much of the same stuff. Especially sampled lyrics.
That's probably the least weird thing ever tbh

Happy 25th Anniversary to Beatmania 1stMix!

BREAK DOWN
Welcome to Beatmania.

This is Konami’s first music game ever released before DDR

I love how the uploader kept the typo of 20 november on the description lol
As Demoman from Team Fortress 2 would say: You're doing good, lad!
The reggae music video... I can't...
And apple stole their iPod ad from this game.
@@Don-jt7ch Can you tell me more?
@@Pandae8 Look at the classic iPod ad. Same art concept.
Even Worse: Gradius Forever - Fuck Konami
Don't worry, I wasn't ready for the Uncle Jam jumpscare either...

I need this for mobile. I have something similar but need this exact one
this whole thing looks like a paint shitpost
well late 90s couldn't do very good animations it only had so much ram and processing power to run the game and that's it
It's the first version of beatmania tho lmao
It's just so funny how broken it looks
@@_lun4r_ half life came out in the late 90s

how's the input latency since you are playing on emulator?
*WORST!?*
idk. you tell me.
it was 2nd mix when it became *POOR*
