Why are these so criminally overlooked?? The Yamaha Pacifica is one of THE best kept secrets in the Super Strat range of guitars! Excellent build quality, excellent components, it takes a back seat to no other guitar in this model range!
I have one. It's definitely a good S-type alternative, not a superstrat. For it to be a good superstrat, it would need a double-locking trem like on the old Yamaha RGX line. Still love the pacifica though! It feels like it's built better than my Fender.
@@tomaslopez2940i think super strats are open to interpretation. 20 years ago yeah it would need a Floyd on it it, but now a modern SS is an HSS configuration, beefier bridge, locking tuners and an upgraded nut, either bone or graphite. This would absolutely classify as a super strat.
I have the model with a Humbucker in bridge and P90 in the neck. I also have about 12 high end guitars. Most of my time is spent on the Yamaha. Outside of the frets needing some work ( on the ends a little ruff) its a GREAT guitar. The pickups are the most balanced I've seen in a guitar. Its incredibly comfortable both in body and neck shape. As a result I may get this regardless of my Fender HSS. Nothing at the price point or under 1K touches it.
I play 611VFMs. The Duncan Custom 5 in the bridge sounds nice clean and works well with the coil switch pulled. But the mids are all scooped on that pickup. If went to push higher gain tones is just fizzed out. I talked to Duncan and they suggested the Trembucker 59 Custom Hybrids. That pickup totally rocks in the Pacificas. And still works just as good in single coil mode. IMO that is the pickup Yamaha should used.
Just as an FYI. I have a bunch of guitars and a number are high end. The guitar I play the most is my Yamaha Pacifica. I have the one with the P90 in the neck and the Seymour Custom humbucker in the bridge. I'm now getting this not because I need it but want it. They are GREAT guitars not just for the money but because they are. Fantastic neck, fantastic pickups. The only thing I had to do was dress the fret ends. They were a 'little' sharp but thats it. Low string action and the body is very comfortable. I liked the Bridge humbucker so much I put it in my SG and wow!
@@TheOldFlyguy Are the SSL's vintage staggered? I read on the spec sheet they are but I dont see why since the neck is 13.75" radius. Can you confirm this? Thanks.

They are the quiet performer in the room without the hype as other guitar brands...If I get a chance, I will check one out at the store.
I really don't know how this guy manages to make any guitar and amp sound like shit. I mean seriously. His demos always start with distorted scooped mid kinda sounds with tons of effects, and that does't do justice.
Actually in this case the tone profile on the Duncan Custom 5 is scooped. I play the 611FHMs but I had all my Custom 5s pulled out of the bridge position and replaced with 59 Custom Hybrid Trembuckers. Made the guitar absolutely killer. I would kind of like a 612 now.
