  • Remote ID is coming up quick, only a few months away. Fortunately you can easily comply with Remote ID. A few weeks ago I purchased the Dronetag Mini, just to be ready for remote ID. Both the Dronetag mini and beacon are extremely easy to setup and use, and will ensure you're complying with the FAA Remote ID requirements.

Like many other drone operators, I'm not thrilled about Remote ID. I have concerns that requirements will expand over time. While it's just broadcast id now, I could see it evolving into network ID down the road and I'm not thrilled about that. Here's my issue when it comes to compliance. We've been building a successful drone business, and things are just getting better. I don't want to risk losing all of the progress we've made by not complying. My clients depend on the work we're doing for them, and my long term contracts extend through the launch of Remote ID. So we've decided to comply with the broadcast ID to keep flying for our customers. We'll be watching the evolution of remote id closely for sure.

The device is movable but if I remember correctly per the FFA...The registration number of the RID unit has to be registered to the serial number of the drone to be used on. You can change the registration at any time but I don't know if the $5 charge is for each one or multipal like the recreation license is. Something to check into for sure. Also using the removable module you are limited to some of the things you are allowed to do with the drone unlike it being already installed.

You can attach a module to a registered aircraft by using the settings edit feature. This can be done without paying the 5dollar registration fee. Or you can register the module itself, which does require the registration fee. Which will generate a FA number for the module itself. Depends on how you intend to use it.

It’s far easier to not comply with tyranny, mass non compliance because only the weak and fearful comply ❤

Remote ID app should be free for registered pilots and charge the public Karen’s. It should also allow the pilot to see who viewed them while in flight. It’s about safety. That looks very heavy for a part 107 tiny whoop. FAA is out of touch.

I like the idea of the equipment being free! I'm not thrilled about Remote ID either, and maybe it will be delayed. I still needed to get ready for my business, as I have contracts through this whole year, and can't be grounded by remote id. Oh, and yes, I don't see that unit fitting on a tiny whoop at all.

My Take - NOTE: Don't take me wrong, not wanting to lay this over on camera drone operators. These devices are already being RID enabled. Its not their fault a newbie real estate agent or ambulance chased grabbed a camera drone, with NO prior model fight experience at all, and the Drones of today made them think they were Top Gun. Try This FAA --> Reorganize what "drones" are required to comply. Camera Drones with full access gimbals, gps, return to home, autonomous flight should comply. Has a free style or racing drone spied on a family bbq or hovered over and airport runway? No. Fixed camera facing up. Tiny Whoop? No. RC Fixed wing planes with simple radio electronics? No. Un powered RC Gliders / Slope Soar / Thermal Gliders? No. RC Heli with standard flight electronics? No. RC Paragliders? No. 1 pound RC Foamy plane? No. All that have been classified as "drones" are not always true drones, nor do they have the ability to be bad actors as drones. First was "voluntary registrations" then mandatory registration". Then there was education that was going to save everyone. Then there was apps that would make it safer. Then there was Network RID, then broadcast RID, but network RID is still not dead and keeps coming up. This was totally a poor risk assessment sold on fear, media drama, and movie DEATH DRONES.... based on NO DEATHS. Then an overbearing engineered plan created by the committees of Full Access Camera Gimbal GPS Autonomous Flight Drone Manufactures and Lobbyists that have money and access to congress and the FAA. What could possibly go wrong? Make the punishment fit the crime? Full Access Camera Gimbal GPS Autonomous Flight Drone have shown up at Airports, back yard bbqs, your daughters bedroom window, sports domes and large commercial gatherings. How about start there, get that under control, look for the "problems that may have been missed" once you are solid with the first most serious risk gap. Common sense Risk mitigation instead of a "I have a hammer and everything looks like a nail" mentality, which government 3 letter agency that WANT FUNDING do. Control ALL = easy button, more funding, broad brush paper pushing and regulations over what could or might happen.

How about, NO. Especially not for the absurd price they are demanding them.

Hey, Rich: Thanks for the info. QUESTION: I have the beacon and registered with the FAA and created an account with Beacon. Then attached to the Mavic Pro 2. Is there anything that I need to do on the Ipad when flying the mavic pro 2? I cannot seem to get the DJI Go 4 ap to recognize any remote ID Even though the beacon is on. ANY help most appreciated. TwoBirdDay. Donna

I don't think there is anything you need to do further. I don't think the Go4 App integrates with the module at all. My understanding is that once you've registered it and turn it on, that's it. You might want to double check with Dronetag just to be sure. They're pretty good at answering questions quickly in my experience.
