I meant to say "Skunk doing his thing," not "Raccoon doing his thing." Oh well.
Experienced exactly this with a virtual tour for UConn. They started out with the pronouns and the land acknowledgment. They spent more time on their diversity and equity speech than telling them what the college actually offers in the way of an education. He quickly decided it wasn’t for him. Same with many of the SUNY schools.
How will colleges get around the coming “enrollment cliff” given the trend of men staying away?
Most of the schools my kids visited did the same
The uva tour has pronouns. Also a long section on enslaved labor. Little to no mention of Jefferson these days. Who decided that belongs on the admissions tour? There are historical tours available and that can and should be covered.
Yes, went to UVA this summer, every guide in the intro (20 guides) stated what pronouns they wanted to be addressed by (15 minutes). Then a long section, about 1/2 the tour (30 minutes), on slavery, where the slaves lived, what the slaves did, what the slaves ate, where the slaves cooked, where the slaves' toilet used to be, who lived above the slaves, etc. No discussion about academics at all. No discussion about financial aid. Some hand waving about where you can eat. No visiting any classrooms or lecture hall. Really not a helpful tour at all! My son came out saying "I don't want to go here." Frustrating.
@@mossfloss That is tragic. The current President and his cronies need to go
@@mossfloss Good luck to your son in any case
Oh wow. So I go on RUclips and UVA admissions has an official First year admissions session. Two minutes in, two minutes in, they do a land acknowledgment followed by a nod to enslaved labor. They have to acknowledge the complex history. Disagree. Dislike.
Hah! Northwestern had all of their tour guides start off our visit by stating their pronouns and then tried to get all the kids in our tour group to announce their pronouns.
