As a fellow woodcarver, I also enjoy re-purposing found wooden boxes, and carving or wood-burning fancy designs into them. One of my favorites is taking Sache Torte or Imperial Torte boxes from Vienna-Austria (where I live), sanding off their logos, and carving designs - mostly chip carving as you have done here. It makes a wonderful heirloom box for the next generations to enjoy. Thank you very much for sharing your talent and skills with us to enjoy! :-)
Just found your channel last night. Amazingly beautiful creations. I guess I will be binge watching for a while to get caught up with your other videos. lol Thanks.
Rod as I said the other day, you can do anything you put your mind to. It is awesome I love it. How are you feeling and doing. God bless wonderful friend. Semper Fi!
R Humphrey i have only just today realised you were replying, i could only see the hearts. so thank you so much for helping me find a way to get started. i will be slowly reading your replies with joy.
I'm not loyal to the company, but flexcut makes some nice carving knives, and I like Phiel makes great chisels and gouges for carving. Basswood is my favorite. Thank you!
I really appreciate that. NFS at this time, I'm planning to do a few more and maybe sell them as a set, but not 100% sure yet to be honest. Thanks again :)
Thanks for watching! I just removed them while carving to make things easier. The same hinges were used once I was done, sorry I didn't show that in the video :)
Why would one do this? These boxed are not made to be humidors so storing cigars in them for a longer period of time would be a waste. What is the purpose of this box after the ingraving?
It turns a plain old cigar box (which is made of nice wood) into a treasure chest, or keepsake box, or even a jewelry box of sorts...or whatever one wants really. Re-purposing that which is usually discarded. Thanks very much for watching!
Awesome, shame when they killed of Sean Bean (Ned Stark) am glad Winter is over and Spring has sprung... Lol... Sharpe (😉) tools is half the battle... Couldn't help meself... 🛠️😉🛠️...
the MRS here... my word me Rod... what a gorgeous piece of art!!!! pure joy to watch...
Thank you very much!😊
Another oldie popped up. What a beautiful box. See ya soon Brother!☕️

if i wanted to teach myself to whittle, which seems like a small less messy job, is ther a knife or chisel or wood type i should try?
I can't really name a brand in particular, but I've found that a shorter fixed blade is easier to control that a longer blade or a folding blade.

Nice!!
Thank you!
Where do you your images you trace on the wood?
Any help on beginning tools (knives, chisels, Dremel bits) would be helpful. Also the good woods to work with and practice on! Awesome work

What type of carving knives are you using? especially the blade that you use to outline your work? Thank you. Great work BTW!
Thanks very much! The knife used for the outlining is the Pfeil #2 Chip Carving Knife. The others are various Flex Cut carving chisels.
ficou incrível 😍
Muito obrigado!
Did you make your knives yourself?
no, they are pfeil and flex-cut
Молодец 👍
Superbe !!!!
Je vous remercie
Wow, that's beautiful. Sub'd
Thank you! And thanks very much for the sub, I really appreciate it!
Great, very nice. Thank you for the link. How much? BTW; I'm a great fan of your work and GOT.
I really appreciate that. NFS at this time, I'm planning to do a few more and maybe sell them as a set, but not 100% sure yet to be honest. Thanks again :)
R Humphrey keep us informed and happy carving the set would be great!!

Thank you! :)
How would I commission you to do some work for me?
Thank you for watching! You may contact me via e-mail at tops.woodworking@gmail.com.
Why did you change the hinges?
Thanks for watching! I just removed them while carving to make things easier. The same hinges were used once I was done, sorry I didn't show that in the video :)

haha, well done! I stuck it with the pointy end. 😊
Hahaha😉😄...
Very nice. I didn't know you could still get wood one but then I don't smoke cigars.
Thank you! If you have a cigar store nearby, they often sell the empty boxes for cheap, or even give them away sometimes.
