The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

John Lennon himself said this rendition of Yesterday is beautiful.
Ray's voice is ten times better than his
@@captain2ahabapples and oranges.
Can barely see him in this clip, but the guy in the gold suit playing the Hammond organ is Billy Preston
Brings this performance full circle
@@VirreFriberg good call
He played with the Beatles just 13 months after this perfomance
The 5th Beatle
Well yeah he’s not the star
Why doesn't this have more views, this is a masterpiece
If this awesome, soulful, inspired vocal performance of a classic 20th Century popular song doesn't bring a tear to your eye nothing will. God Bless Ray Charles.
Brought a tear to mine what a artist ray was.
"I believe in yesterday". Represents the mindset of those who adore this channel and celebrate the amazing performances of the good ole days. Including Ray Charles.
💋 yes
Moreover, the way we live In our past. “My troubles seemed so far away, now it looks as those they’re here to stay” represents the acceptance of that which we wish to leave there but must face in order to move forwards- bless you brother Ray- and the Beatles too
A great performance.
YES ! Ive been waiting for this one
The horn section in the orchestra truly gives Ray the love he deserves .
This is awesome! I'd like to see What'd I Say, from this show. May Ray Charles and Billy Preston rest in peace. Cheers!
Great Version
Great singer
Excellent 🔥
Just an absolutely devastating performance…a real testament to his artistry and musical genius.
That is SOUL
Amazing!!!!
Yes!!!!!
Great!
this is the best version ever for me.
the genius
Love this.
A legend in action- taking a Beatles classic & making it his own. Ray Charles started singing other songs (he said he stopped writing his own material in the early 1960s). In 1972, he gave his spin on the National Anthem- "America The Beautiful". Brother Ray, thanks for the music 🎼🎶🎙️📻🎧& the memories....
The most beautiful songs by Ever heard 😀🎙️🎷🎺🎸🥁🎹
Maravilhoso Ray Charles que artista genial Yesterday ficou linda em sua voz
He put that soul in this song
They put "soul" into everything, warranted or not. They just can't hep dem self.
Monstro da música 🎸
Wow. Talk about some of "armchair record label execs" commenting on this being a "misguided single release" or "not one of Ray's finest performances". Give me a flippin' break and just ENJOY this performance from Brother Ray.
NOW, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!
@@ronniemoon57 what'd I say like Brother Ray!
Amo muitoooo
Sencillamente insuperable.
Both appearance were close to Christmas in different years
Ironically?
I should say it was interesting that his appearances were close to Christmas
We miss Ray 2022
I love Rays’ version of Yesterday.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Heroin use causes one to itch as demonstrated in the last few seconds of this clip. But Ray fought and kicked the addiction cold turkey, no assistance from Methadone or anything else. It's a struggle, a living hell until you have it out of your system. Ray Charles, born into poverty in the south, went blind as a child, rose to super stardom. An incredible story about an incredible man.
if he was off heroin when this was made which he was....then the itch in the last few seconds of this clip could not possibly be a demonstration of heroin use.
and BTW what you are seeing there is the way Ray used his arms and hands and actually his whole body in a frantic sort of way to the music and being on stage...rocking back and forth was also an example.....
you...need to stick to repeating what is already known..because your observations are ridiculous....and foolish..
And he did it all in the USA !!!
@@jadezee6316 Yep, I use to love to see him rock back and forth. I remember seeing him do it when I was a little child. He was a hell of a singer on and off heroin.
💕
This is indeed is the greatest composition Paul McCartney
👍👍❤
@1:08 this vocal lick killed me. Respect to the SOUL MASTER. ❤@1:05 wait a minute now!
🔥
The best version ever. Ray Charles ❤
la mejor version~^
Next to the Beatles.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@2:15 Bless YOUR heart Mr. Ray ( RIP)
0:05 Yeshterday= yesterday
Is there any recorded interview by Paul McCartney giving his opinion of Ray's cover of his song?
Then suddenly
Wish he stayed on the melody more
Me to now times are so hateful
Misguided album cut ABC/Tangerine thought they could push as a single.
This is a Beatles song
I love Ray, but this wasn’t his finest moment. This cover is missing the magic he brought to Eleanor Rigby. The ending is especially awkward. Also note how many artists that cover this song sing “I must’ve done something wrong” when the original lyric is “I said something wrong.” Minor change, but it changes the tone of the song. The original has more humility.
"Wasn't his finest moment" BITE YOUR TONGUE CHUMP, THIS IS RAY CHARLES. EVERYTHING HE TOUCHES IS HIS FINEST MOMENT.
i also agree this isn’t his best singing, personally i think his best live yesterday cover was when he was in copenhagen 1971 i believe
@@ronniemoon57 YOU GOT THAT RIGHT, BROTHER.
this sing not your style.I like u as long years
This is better than McCartney’s version, imho.
McCartney did this?
@@bird401 Uhm, yes, he wrote it...
@@SueBoo2 Well, I’ll be. Thought that was a Beatles song. :)
