"I believe in yesterday". Represents the mindset of those who adore this channel and celebrate the amazing performances of the good ole days. Including Ray Charles.

If this awesome, soulful, inspired vocal performance of a classic 20th Century popular song doesn't bring a tear to your eye nothing will. God Bless Ray Charles.
Paul Mccartney said in an interview that he really liked Ray Charles covering his music. Had to see what he was talking about, so here I am. Amazing artist. It's like a completely different song.
@0:30 That (his) high pitched ending note, which is part of Mr. Charles style, always take me over the ground. It makes me feel good right away, I can't explain nor how or why. Do yourself a favor and listen to the studio version (if you haven't). Type in Ray Charles - Yesterday in the search field to get it in the top. The warmth of his voice is closer and the sound of the music instruments is so qualifying.
This was a treat. I came here after Paul mentioned covers of “Yesterday” by Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Elvis, and Frank Sinatra on the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. (Colbert mentioned Stevie Wonder’s cover of “We Can Work It Out”.)
A legend in action- taking a Beatles classic & making it his own. Ray Charles started singing other songs (he said he stopped writing his own material in the early 1960s). In 1972, he gave his spin on the National Anthem- "America The Beautiful". Brother Ray, thanks for the music 🎼🎶🎙️📻🎧& the memories....
Heroin use causes one to itch as demonstrated in the last few seconds of this clip. But Ray fought and kicked the addiction cold turkey, no assistance from Methadone or anything else. It's a struggle, a living hell until you have it out of your system. Ray Charles, born into poverty in the south, went blind as a child, rose to super stardom. An incredible story about an incredible man.
if he was off heroin when this was made which he was....then the itch in the last few seconds of this clip could not possibly be a demonstration of heroin use. and BTW what you are seeing there is the way Ray used his arms and hands and actually his whole body in a frantic sort of way to the music and being on stage...rocking back and forth was also an example..... you...need to stick to repeating what is already known..because your observations are ridiculous....and foolish..
@@jadezee6316 Yep, I use to love to see him rock back and forth. I remember seeing him do it when I was a little child. He was a hell of a singer on and off heroin.
Wow. Talk about some of "armchair record label execs" commenting on this being a "misguided single release" or "not one of Ray's finest performances". Give me a flippin' break and just ENJOY this performance from Brother Ray.
I love Ray, but this wasn’t his finest moment. This cover is missing the magic he brought to Eleanor Rigby. The ending is especially awkward. Also note how many artists that cover this song sing “I must’ve done something wrong” when the original lyric is “I said something wrong.” Minor change, but it changes the tone of the song. The original has more humility.
This is, not even close, the *WORST* version of this song I've ever heard. Ray Charles is packed to the brim with soul. He sings so powerfully, he really has a drive and has so much strength in how he sings lyrics. That's what makes this cover so dogshit. "Yesterday" is not a powerful song of triumph and victory and unleashing yourself unto the world. It's a pitiful song. It reflects the scenario of a man who has lost the most important thing in his life, and now he's empty, and hollow. That's what makes Yesterday such a beautiful song. It's beauty that makes you cry, not beauty that gives you joyful tears. It is rock bottom. It is someone who has lost their fire. This cover is shit because it attempts to put a flame into a pool of tears. But I'm open to discussion if you disagree. Ray is an immensely talented artist who, in this case, chose the wrong song. If he chose Helter Skelter, THAT would've been an amazing cover.

Can barely see him in this clip, but the guy in the gold suit playing the Hammond organ is Billy Preston
