Troubleshooting your IngramSpark File Submission | Why does IngramSpark keep rejecting my book?

I love being able to connect with so many of you authors via this channel. It is really fun for me and I love it when we can all share a win. But, it is kind of limiting to connect on this channel because a lot of the time yall have questions that require me to maybe look at what isn’t working to help troubleshoot something. (Side note, you can follow the AuthorYourAmbition page on FB and post questions there too..)
So I wanted to take a moment to answer some really common issues that I see a lot of authors have when they are submitting their files to IngramSpark. I’ve done videos on using their cover templates and just working with them in general, but here are the most common troubleshooting issues I see and how you can fix them:
-ISBN already in use - expanded distribution video. Likely you are adding a book that you already have self-published elsewhere. Or you bought the ISBN from an unofficial source and whoever sold it to you has sold it to multiple people.
-My book isn’t showing up on any of the retailer sites? 1. Did you enable global distribution? 2. Has it been for than 2 business days? I see people post this a lot and when asked they say they submitted their book an hour earlier. After you submit it you still need to approve the proof. Calm down.
-Pricing - this section is just glitchy, pack your patience
-Did you use the IngramSpark template for your cover? If not, I highly suggest that you do. They are literally giving you exactly what you need. Did you save the color profile and use CMYK colors? *NOTE: I messed this up in the video, DO NOT SAVE THE ICC PROFILE*
-Did you try to format your paperback interior in MS Word? Did you “save as” a PDF or “print” to PDF?

I know many people are familiar with MS Word and they already have it on their computer and they don’t want to buy a new software or hire someone to format, but guess what? The formatting is the actual part of the book that people are going to read so it should look good. Do yourself a favor and use FormattedBooks.com

Hi, Your videos have been helpful as I'm submitting my first book today! How do I get a preview of the files that I just uploaded on Ingram Spark. I'm under the confirmation tab and I.S. wants me to check off that everything is correct and final and submit the title. However, I am afraid to do that if I haven't even seen a preview. KDP provided a preview right away which is great!
You should get an email to preview the files in the next day or so
I can't even up load my tax info not giving me the option....the step by step doesn't even the same lol emailed support

I don't know that error code, what is the description of the error saying? Is this a formatted epub file you're uploading or a PDF?
@@1MKWilliams yes epub file ....this error showing : (RSC-005): /index.html: Error while parsing file: value of attribute "lang" is invalid; must be an RFC 3066 language identifier

I deeply appreciate your video. But I can't fix the problem with the PDF CONTAINS ICC COLOR PROFILES in my cover. I tried everything. Not lying, EVERYTHING! I am giving up! Nobody help me from Ingram. Is just a horrible customer service. UGH! I am going to continue publishing on Amazon and Draft2digital. I am giving up of Ingram!
Hi Marco, When saving your PDF did you uncheck the "ICC Profile" box on the save window that popped up? Sorry to hear this isn't working for you?
@@1MKWilliams Yes! I did and still color problems. I tried to upload the book again, using their cover builder. Paid again and nothing! No customer service. Just emails saying I need to do it again. No contacts from there. Nothing. Already paid twice $49 and nothing. My books is on Amazon and many other places. Ingram is ridiculous. I am so disappointed. But I appreciate your help and your video. I am so annoyed that now I just clicked to accept the book even with the colors problems! I give up!
Thank you for this video. I tried for days to fix the error code IngramSpark kept giving me telling me the interior resolution was too low and below the required 300 ppi. I finally went to File, Print on my Word Document and clicked Adobe PDF. From there, I was able to save the PDF and IT WORKED!!! The image resolution finally fixed itself. Thank you so much for the great content.

I have a question: I have an error. Although my validation check for epub says all is good, when I upload to Ingram I get several validation errors.
Hi Monika, Sorry you're having this issue. Hopefully the new file type for the images helps
What do I do if it says that the images in my file are too high resolution and that there are icc color profiles in both the cover and interior? I didn't see anything in the video addressing these specific things?
You need to resave the file without the ICC profile, it is an option when you hit "save" on the bottom left of the dialog box that pops up. As for the images being too high resolution, you may need to reformat the book or replace the images with lower res options. 300 dpi is preferred.
I love your videos! I'm going with IngramSpark for the first time and it's telling me my imprint name is already taken, but I haven't had that issue when setting up my book with KDP or Bowker. I copied and pasted the metadata exactly from MyIdentifiers and everything, and I gave it a week to "reset," but Ingram is still not letting me move forward with the setup. (Their CS is taking forever to get back to me, as many have warned) Any ideas why this is happening? Thank you SO much!
Hi Hannah, Okay, is it showing the Imprint is in use or the ISBN? If the ISBN, check your book is not in expanded distribution with KDP. If the Imprint, I would delete the listing and start over fresh. (Nuclear option but it's so early in the upload process) If none of that works... Sit tight on IS customer service and politely follow up with a "I haven't heard anything, is your team still looking into this?" Best of luck!
I'm sorry but I'm not spending no 200-300 dollars for formatting, that's ridiculous. I made a book to earn money and yet all I have done is spend money. At the rate I'm going I might as well be in the negatives. Why can't things be simple for once?
Everything I do is apparently wrong and I'm not made of money. I wish I was but sadly I can't even get my books in stores because stupid ingram of course has to have different layouts than kdp and I'm just so overwhelmed I'm done. This has been the worst process to try and figure out and of course everything nowadays Is like "I'll help you for only 100 dollars or something". What makes you think I have 100 to even spend lol? Sorry I'm just so frustrated right now, I mean no offense to anyone.

Thank you for this video. Have you by any chance done a video that addresses the issue of upload freeze? I have tried several times to upload a 32-page illustrated children's book and it stops uploading at about 80%. I've heard other people with image-rich books have had this problem, too.
I've not done a specific video on that however I do find with IngramSpark that it can be best to walk away and return an hour or day later. They do have an email option to send in the file for upload as well. (Also, weekday mornings and evenings are less busy for uploads, I find all the platforms are slower on wee when authors are usually uploading)

Hi Leanne, When did you submit the book? If it has been less than 3 business days I would let it be. After 3 business days I would suggest submitting a help desk ticket to find out what the hold up is. Best of luck! MK
I was hoping you would address: Invalid page count... Under Title/Status it says processing. And has been for over a week! I cannot seem to cancel the submission. So it just spins away doing nothing.
The processing status is just that, a status. If it is caught up in their system I would suggest submitting a help desk ticket and asking them to either revert it to revision pending so you can adjust or to push through the proof. help.ingramspark.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

“COVER: REVISED COVER SUBMISSION DID NOT FIX ALL ISSUES Please address the uncorrected issues and submit a revised cover file. PDF DOCUMENT SIZE IS INCORRECT The PDF document size is 8.18" x 5.15". The PDF size needs to be 23" x 14.5" to fit the template. This needs to be corrected before the file can be processed.
The template was used, however the PDF document size does not match the source template document size. The PDF document size is noted in the lower left corner of the template.

Hmm I'm not sure since I've never used procreate. I would suggest checking the export settings to make sure everything is one page at a time and not a two page spread (that can trip some people up) best of luck!

I am think I am having the same issue. My illustrator put the pages double spread so each slide has to pages. So my page count when I download the file is 13 instead of 26. How can I split the double spread to individual pages for accurate page count?

I have written a Childrens book and have complete PDFs. Unfortunately, Im unable to upload them because the site is forcing me to use template for the interior and doesn't allow more than 6 pages for any of the templates. Do you have any idea how to just upload all of the interior pages easily??? I have been at hair pulling 2 days in a row and constantly sending them emails to troubleshoot. They really need a customer support team either call line or live chat.
Hi Bianca, yes that is definitely frustrating. At this point, I would recommend to hand off the illustrations to someone who is experienced with book formatting, specifically for print on demand. @@1MKWilliams Thanks but I am already over budget. I found a video that taught me to format it using procreate, it was just really hard to find the specifications needed for 8x8 interior. I am trying to just scoot it over and leave a bit more room on the gutter side. Hopefully it works! All words and illustrations are embedded in one file 😅
someone help please!!! i am trying to upload my picture book hardcover on ingram and it's telling me i have only 6 pages. so my spine is too small and i can't freaking upload my files. i am so annoyed. i've tried it all the cover thing the calcualator, nothing changed
Is the 6 page count accurate or is it showing the wrong page count?
No it should be 36
@@jessicabell4436 the only things I can think of are checking the cover template (which you did) and then check when you input the page count that there isn't a typo on that page. Otherwise (don't hate me) but you may need to delete and start the listing over.

So when i enter my BOWKER ISBN, it tells me: The ISBN entered is not associated with your established Publisher account.
Hi Lily, I've not seen that problem before. A few thoughts on how to troubleshoot?
1. Have you assigned the ISBN details in your bowker account? After purchasing the ISBN you still need to enter all the metadata
2. If you did enter the metadata, has it been at least 24-48 hours? It can take a while to filter through
After that I would consider reaching out to Bowker customer support to ask about this and see if there is an issue on their backend. They tend to respond a bit faster. Best of luck!

Great video! I have one question, so I've recently uploaded my second book a week ago, it got in the Friday night Ingram reset/sync, whatever you'd like to call it lol. It did begin showing up on retailers by Monday/Tuesday thankfully, however, only the paperback version of the book. I have an eBook version of it as well that hasn't shown up on Amazon or Barnes & Noble (but is available on one or two small eBook only retailers). I have been trying to have patience, hoping it will go automatically with time, however I'm beginning to worry it may be a file size issue on my end. It is a graphic novel so it is a hefty 178mb. It's very unclear what file sizes these sites will accept, I've seen everywhere from 25mb to 650mb to 2gb! I understand you likely don't have answer, I was just wondering if there's a chance you may have had a similar delay with one version of a book, or maybe you've heard about somebody with file size issues. Any feedback greatly appreciated! :)
Yes, to answer your question I have seen there be a delay between formats even when they have been approved all at the same time on IngramSpark. Best of luck with your book!

Hi, not sure why. I would suggest reaching out to IngramSpark customer support at this point with the ISBN number and asking about the status of the book.
Do you have to have InDesign to use their template?
Hello, No you don't need to have InDesign. I have Photoshop and I can still use it.
