    First tutorial in which narrator knows which slider in Maya does what!! Amazing!
    Really, most useful tut I've seen. Thanks!

    Even after all these years this is still an amazing and wonderful tutorial.
    by the way can you share your before and after tutorial data to us?
    so that we can follow step by step compare and study it.

      OMG I can't believe this tutorial is STILL getting views, 8 years later! Thanks for the kudos! I'm 99.999% sure that data is long gone. Does this workflow even still work in Bifrost in Maya 2024?

    This is hands down one of the best tutorials out there for Bifrost, even though it is almost 3 year old right now. Mr Roland Reyer has also helped me a lot with his latest Maya 2018 videos. Thank you both, guys, really amazing.
    Now just one single question: is it possible to obtain a three-axis deformation like that with the current Maya 2018 Boss? My y-axis deformations are very difficult to set up because every time I try to get three pulses (like your example) these are like exact repetitions...maybe I'm doing something wrong.
    Thanks again!

    HI. Nice tut I was trying my hand on the biofrost I have question while rendering I get blooby partials of the foam I was the particles size really small like in the mental Ray ... Thanks a lot in advance

    About having a guide sim over a larger deformed ocean.
    When I make the container, the water splashes along the edges when it is making contact with the tank.
    To resolve this issue do you just put kill planes directly where the water will collide with the tank, or say 1 pixel inside that space.? I look at Igor's videos and the edges are so clean.

    How would you export/render the foam sim after caching out the alembic? I'm not sure what to do with it.

    First, Thanks for the explanation.It helped me in many ways.The question I still have is perhaps a bit off topic: for the life of me, I couldn't make the native Maya Ocean or Water shaders to move the vertices in all three directions. Just up or down.I looked for other ways in Google and RUclips, but still didn't find anything helpful.I'd appreciate it if you could tell me how you created your initial ocean surface.If not, then still thanks for a very in depth tutorial.

      You can create 3 dimensional wave in Maya with the texture deformer. Try this (1:1 scale):
      Create a polyplane (width:500, height:500, Subdiv.: 100 in both direction)
      Add a texture Deformer
      Add a Texture to the deformer (Ocean of course)
      Deformer settings:
      Point Space: UV
      Direction: Vector!!!!
      Vector Space: Object
      Vector Strength: 250, 1000, 250
      Vector Offset: -250, -1000, -250
      Play with the Ocean texture attributes. :)
      That's it.
      Cheers, D

    I have never used this Alembic in Maya before, and then there is the ocean_anim file you uploaded. How did you create that so you could import it as Alembic like you did at 1:45?

    Good Explanation, such an underated feature, that allows for control, direction while maintaing fluid sims for surface interaction. How accurate have you found the velocity advection/guide on large surfaces with lots of variation in wave height/amplitude?

    • @adriangraham77
      @adriangraham77  9 лет назад +1

      +Niall Horn Thanks for the comment.
      The lower the Min Simulation Depth, the more closely the sim follows the guide surface. The catch, however, is that as you decrease this attribute, you must also decrease your MVS, thereby increasing the resolution of your sim to accommodate.

    Adrian, if you were to create a giant sea vortex, like a sinkhole, what would be your method? It needs to look like stormy sea with waves and foam, but at the same time the water needs to spin into the funnel, and the spinning gets faster the lower it gets. I'm finding this to be quite complicated. Do you have any suggestions or a general method you would use?

    hi, i'm confused i just did what you said. I reached to the point where you input the connection between the poly Guide to the bifrostLiquid, when i connected them together the particles disappear. Of-course i reset to frame 1, it does the calculation but there is nothing to be seen.

    Is there any general settings in maya that helps speed up bifrost ?. we purchased an insanely fast workstation (Threadripper2 32core cpu!!) and Bifrost is just as slow as my older workstations, what gives!???

    • @RaviTomar__
      @RaviTomar__ 5 лет назад

      I dont know what the fuck is wrong with the threadripper 2..my 2970wx is acting like its pentium 2!!!
      I saw a post where it was explained that sims r not good at utilising multi-threading and hence threadrippers r useless here....better single core speeds of intel r better for such tasks..

    hey adrian,
    thanks for this tutorial it's realy cool and exactly that what i need for my actual project. BUT....i can't realy work with bifrost because its laging and during endless until somethings going on....i don't think that my computer is to weak...are there some preferences that i can make that it works faster?....i rly want to try out bifrost but so....it is impossible.
    thanks for your answer

    Might be a bit late to this one but despite so much searching, I can't find a way to get the dynamic locator work on Bifrost? It seems to only work with other items from the Fluids menu, is there a way to get it working or animate to Bifrost's water? Greatly appreciated

    Is it possible to somehow get a static mesh from this, and render it to a texture with foam? This is in order to then put it in a marmoset, for rendering the composition in real time! Or, maybe someone has ideas on how else to present static works with water in a marmoset?

    Thanks for the tutorial. Quick question... Is there currently a way to adjust the speed of the Spectral Waves? I have a nice wave system setup, but the waves are moving too fast. I'm trying to figure out a way to slow things down. Any suggestions?

    • @boycie18
      @boycie18 5 лет назад

      Hey, if you want to alter the speed of the waves in Boss, without affecting the look, you can brute force the speed by going to the "time section" under the boss deformer and make an expression "BossSpectralWave1.time=frame*0.5" obviously change the "BossSpectrailWave1.time" bit to the name of your waves...

    Hello. I have a question. I have tried to animate a boat after my guide surface. But when i play it, it is "choppy" due to the smaller waves. In your animatic (i have the files) i can see that your animationcurve is smooth. How did you even animate the boat along the water, making it go so smooth? Cheers
