The most important part of size inclusivity is having access to clothes which make bigger people feel great, because many plus size people have had such bad treatment they struggle with self acceptance. It is very hard to focus on yourself, including your health when you feel you are a failure. I think those wounds are why some can't be glad for you. I know how much motivation it takes to lose a large amount of weight so I say GOOD ON YOU (and look forward to the new makes:)). Since I have a fraught history with weightloss I don't "diet" or weigh myself any more, but I am very motivated to stay healthy and feel attractive so I work on having healthy habits. You are very beautiful at all the sizes you've been btw :)
Ever since I've been making my own clothes I've noticed a drastic drop in my own size. stuff from a year ago is hanging off me with 8" to spare allover. Just not having the stress of fitting a certain size in clothes shops or trying to dress and look like other people has been a massive reason why my relationship with food and my body has changed so much. Especially the historical stuff I sew, 100 + years ago a tailor or dressmaker didn't care if you were big or small, talk or short, they'd just pad you out in other areas until you had the right silhouette 😂 New sub, wish you all the best for a happy and healthy journey with your weight loss and sewing 😊
Congratulations!! You have inspired me start “taking care” of myself. As I have gotten older, weight loss has become more about improving my health, and not just improving my appearance and how I feel about myself. Thank you. I look forward to following you on your journey.
THANK YOU for this video! I stopped sewing for myself because of my weight. I decided to go through bariatric surgery last year, and have lost 80# so far. I will always be overweight, but closer to healthy every day! Can't wait to sew for MYSELF again ❤
Some days I just can't talk myself into "exercising", but if I find myself sitting here watching RUclips videos I can just stand up & dance - I'm still watching all the videos but I'm moving
I started sewing when I was young and really had no problem with pattens. When got into my forties, gained weight, but still no major issues. My daughter however was different. Her body was where I had to learn how to grade into more than two sizes. About five years ago, she became plus size. I did not want to stop sewing for her but did not know how hard it was to find plus size patterns. And had to learn about all this bust adjustment stuff. Burda was the only thing that really had anything and I rarely purchased Burda because I do not like working with their patterns. Because of the pandemic, started watching youtube and found your channel, and learned about all the indie pattern makers Because of you, I can sew more for my daughter again. She loves Cashmerette patterns. So thank you for putting this out here. But not going to front, due to health issues, which her doctor has also stated to her, I do hope she loses some. Wishing you continued success!
So happy to be an inspiration and you can still sew for your daughter. I am sharing the patterns I've sewn in my journey on Wednesday, so look out for that for more ideas. It is a personal journey and can be harder for others, so do continue to encourage her along the way. Thanks so much for watching.
Your skin is glowing lately, well done for sticking to your journey. I need to get back on it after being in lockdown for so long but struggle with motivation, but know I can do it. Congratulations on your loss.
Thank you Hales and yes, I understand. While we've all been in this lockdown, I started walking my neighborhood. Walking around my neighborhood and doing videos at home was not my cup of tea, but having no choice because of this pandemic it has really helped big time. It meant I could still do something. Thanks so much for watching.
I am in the slightly overweight category and I strongly support size inclusive patterns. As an older woman I find I cannot easily use a big four pattern. If I can’t, then what about the rest of the world? Shame on them. I thank God for those that have taken the initiative to create patterns for real people. Your journey is an inspiration but it is deeply personal. Thank you for addressing issues beyond just “getting thin”. My doctor just spoke to me about exercise because I have been doing none. I have severe back pain and some days can barely walk around the house. However, I just created a new sewing space in my upstairs which helps. Sometimes I can barely hobble up the steps but I have been keeping it up for about 12 days and I see a difference. I will soon be taking outside walks about two days a week, to start. I’m trying to take better care of myself. You look amazing and are doing a fantastic job.
Thanks so much Sue, I appreciate your kind words. Yes, taking it one day at a time is key. No rush, as long as we do something and increase as we can. It's definitely a process, but we can do it!!! Thanks for watching.
So inspiring. I love that you are doing it slow and steady and not doing any of those “diet” plans. I lost 30 pounds two years ago and then out 20 back on during covid. I have started working out again, so I’ve curtailed anymore gaining, but I need to start back with watching what I eat. The only way I can do it is to track my food. Thank you for some extra motivation. Watched while I worked out this morning.
That's awesome Michelle for taking the necessary steps you can that you know will help you. I chuckled when you said you worked out while watching, LOL, that's great!! Thank you so much for watching.
I quit sewing because of frustration in finding patterns that worked with my shape. I’m 5’11” and in the 1990’s I was around 350 lbs. patterns did not fit me unless I did many many alterations. And nothing really worked. I felt like a freak, embarrassed and my nonexistent self esteem suffered even worse. If it took me such a great effort to sew, it took the joy out. I’ve loss over 140 lbs and I still need to alter patterns but better now. Great job! Great video!
Amie, what a testimony....WAY TO GO!!! Yes, I'm also noticing that with my weightloss there are some alterations I definitely am better at now. Thanks so much for watching.
Great job! I particularly like your reference about having time! I do walk everyday but must do more than that!!! You are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing
Linda, walking is definitely a big step (in my mind) and for me that's where I started and gradually increased as time went and I felt stronger and understood my limitations. Congrats on what you are doing. Thanks so much for watching.
Awesome video Nateida! You touched on very personal issues that are inspiring to others! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Great job and done so eloquently too! I agree with everything you mentioned in this video and have faith that, with more people supporting these issues like yourself this will change in the future! I already see some signs that there’s an attempt to rectify what has been severely missed in the past! Congratulations to you on your weight-loss! You are a true inspiration to others struggling to get where you are at this point! I commend you in everything you’re doing and pray that your journey remains faithful and committed! 😘🥰
Thank you my dear friend!!! Yes, you know it's been a process and a journey. Thanks so much for all your continued support Myra, you know I appreciate it!!
What wonderful progress! Keep up the great work! I love the wisdom in this video. We all get the same hours in a day, and we each have to “spend” or steward them well!!
Congratulations and thank you for sharing so much with us other folks who sew. I was 242 lbs several months ago and have lost around 30 lbs. but most people haven't noticed. I needed your reminder to take measurements!
That is AWESOME Mindy congratulations to you for putting in the work. Yes, taking measurements AND take your pictures, you will see the changes and it will help to keep you pushing forward. Thanks so much for watching.
Hi M.T. not sure i understand your question? When fabrics go on sale that I like and they are the right fit for a project I purchase them. Depending on project, I would wait to purchase fabric for a particular fabric. However, that's not always the case, sometimes I buy fabric with no project in mind. If your question is about where to purchase fabric online, I have a video that I talk about online shops I enjoy here ruclips.net/video/3lGLubGMwDg/видео.html hope that helps.
Great job, thanks for the inspiration. I have been procrastinating since the pandemic, after watching you today I am inspired to start again. Thanks for sharing.
As a 73 year old white woman, I have always thought you had beautiful skin. Yay for your weight loss and taking care of yourself. What a blessing and encouragement you are to so many women😍
Carrying weight also often comes with eating disorders which are serious mental health issues on top of all the other health issues. It's not about being critical of appearances, eating disorders are dangerous and it's taken such a long time to recognise the obese side of eating disorders as being real and in need of critical attention. I've been on both ends of the scale...I starved myself when I was younger and became under weight. I over-exercised, I had orthorexia and I've had binge eating disorder. I haven't resolved my weight issues or my eating disorders but I'm continually working on it and I would encourage others to do the same. It's about quality of life.
It sure does and everyone's story is different and individualized. We can take our own personal journeys in our hands and do what we can. Thanks for watching.
Congratulations, Nateida, your weight loss journey and taking care of your health is inspiring. Thank you for sharing. And yes, you are beautiful at any size!
Thanks so much for sharing. I just hired a trainer and am looking forward to going through my own journey. I have joint issues, as well, but I feel like my lack of exercise has allowed self doubt to creep in to my mindset, which needs to get gone ASAP.
Yes ,yes .yes! I was told once in store "We carry larger sizes but you have to order them on line". Really! Are the larger sizes going to pull shelves and racks apart?
Congratulations on meeting more of your fitness goals. I’m glad to see that you’re sharing the importance of health and fitness through your journey. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
This was very good, especially the part about not having enough plus size models out there modeling the clothes in the department stores or even on the patterns envelope. I don’t have an autoimmune disease but, I do have aches and pains from sciatic issues which can be very painful if I try to exercise but I think I can manage the chair exercises and the floor exercises too. You look absolutely great by the way. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Anita! Yes, give the chair and floor exercises a try. It also helped me to have a conversation with my Dr. as well, so I understood my range of motion and what would and wouldn't effect my joints. Thanks so much for watching.
Wow wee!! Great job on your weight loss! And your lifetime change to be healthy. I say get a Fitbit! I have one and love it! It’s even waterproof so you can wear it in your water fit class. It’s the fitbit charge 4. You have inspired me to get healthy. Wish me luck!
Thanks so much Anna, I appreciate it. I gave an update in a video after this, but I was gifted from one of my subscribers with the Fitbit Versa 3 and LOVE IT!!! Take your journey one day at a time, slow and steady wins the race. Thank you for watching.
I love your content. I can always rely on you for plus size sewing pattern info and online fabric company options. I trust your judgement on this info. Keep bringing it and keep up the good work. I feel like I have someone out here that represents me on all levels.
I think you look great! Congratulations on making the changes you needed to make to get better! I am working on that too not as successfully due to Not really committed to it. Love your videos!
Loved this video. Sorry I didn't see it sooner. You are doing so well on your health journey. I am on one myself and have had flares of Rheumatoid Arthritis, I can tell you as you loose weight, that will ease up as well. I have a simple weight and exercise videos that I follow. It is actually for seniors but better for the joints to use these instead of the fit chicks who really don't know what the issues are and suggest things that are not appropriate like resting weight on the knees. lol I have only lost about 10 pounds, down a size and very encouraging. Can you tell me how you count your calories? I don't use a specific "named" diet plan, but rather something similar to what you are doing. Congratulations you look great and can tell you feel better.
Thanks so much and congrats to you for where you are on your journey. I use the app Carb Manager to track my calories. They have a free version. Hope that helps.
Congrats you look amazing. Inspirational with a smile. Advice on patterns for short overweight women. Big 4 needs lots of adjustment. Thanks best wishes
Thanks so much Anne, that's a great question. The video that went live yesterday I share 20 patterns I've sewn across my journey. However, I admit since I'm 5'7" I don't have any particular recommendations for petites....hmmm, only one that came to mind is Pamela's Patterns, I think she drafts for petite pamelaspatterns.com/
Congratulations! The weight loss is great, but the exercise has made you much more toned and your skin is fabulous. I know what you mean about clothes shopping. I’m 5 ft 1 in and they never have the “cool” styles in the petite section either.
As a larger size women, I find the big 4 have less choice now for patterns in plus size and are not using the designers who design for them. I find myself going to independent companies and have better choice of size and style.
It's definitely a process, and taking baby steps and as time goes one endurance will increase. Also, definitely have a meeting with your Dr. so you know your personal range of motion and what you are able to do.
If your health, now and future, is in jeopardy then buckle down and lose it. T-2 diabetes is no joke. A lot of the damage to multiple organs has already taken place by the time you get a diagnosis. I am doing it.
Bottom line--it is NOT healthy to be overweight. When I began watching you, it is all about you, your attitude, self esteem, you are real and people like that. You are a beautiful woman at any weight and you were able to deal with your weight without self pity. I have such admiration for you. About weight and age: it is twice as hard to lose weight and look half as good as you once did, get used to it and love yourself. I know you will achieve your goal. Thank you for sharing, such inspiration.
The most important part of size inclusivity is having access to clothes which make bigger people feel great, because many plus size people have had such bad treatment they struggle with self acceptance. That's awesome Susan and take baby steps and start with simple projects but definitely jump right back in.
So funny how you described the selection in stores. You are absolutely correct in regards to how time is spent.
I know, isn't that just crazy! Thanks so much for watching.
Some days I just can't talk myself into "exercising", but if I find myself sitting here watching RUclips videos I can just stand up & dance - I'm still watching all the videos but I'm moving

You are doing great on your weight loss. Congrats
Thanks so much Roberta

Congratulations on your weight loss! You look great. 🎉
Thanks so much!!
Congratulations! The weight loss is great, but the exercise has made you much more toned and your skin is fabulous. I know what you mean about clothes shopping. I’m 5 ft 1 in and they never have the “cool” styles in the petite section either.
Thanks so much Teresa and thank you for watching.
As a larger size women, I find the big 4 have less choice now for patterns in plus size and are not using the designers who design for them. I find myself going to independent companies and have better choice of size and style.
Absolutely, me as well, love Indie and I've highlighted in my current video 20 patterns that I've sewn across my journey. Thanks so much for watching.
Congratulations on a wonderful achievement!!
Thank you so much Mary!

Fantastic job girl. One measurement you leave out what is your height?
😄😄you know, I did forget, but I'm 5'7"
Congratulations that is awesome!!
Thank you so much 😀
I need help losing weight!😖😢
It's definitely a process, and taking baby steps and as time goes one endurance will increase. Also, definitely have a meeting with your Dr. so you know your personal range of motion and what you are able to do.
You’re a beautiful woman and you’ve got a wealth of information
Thanks so much Cheryl and thank you for watching.
An Apple Watch is awesome for tracking movement etc.
Yes, I definitely want some kind of exercise watch some day. Thanks for watching.
you look fantastic
Thank you so much Helen and I feel even better. Thanks for watching.
If your health, now and future, is in jeopardy then buckle down and lose it. T-2 diabetes is no joke. A lot of the damage to multiple organs has already taken place by the time you get a diagnosis. I am doing it.
Great job and yes, we definitely have to take control and do what we can. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Renee and thanks for watching.
