    At 17:25, the palm is a pygmy date palm and the tropical groundcover/shrubs are 'Xanadu' philodendrons. Just wanted to add since you asked. Thanks for sharing your garden!

    Zinnias and petunias will grow well and flower profusely in the summer months. I grown zinnias from seed all year long. I planted Purple Prince zinnia in the first week of July and now in late August they are full of flowers. I live in the Miami area.

    I love your yard. What a great mix of ornamental and edible plants. I’m surprised you have that much grass left. Have you thought about doing a type of lawn replacement ground cover plant? I hate my lawn grass, but I’m afraid to replace it.

    • @aquaseahorselove3939

      I hate my grass, too. I want it to go away 😩

      @@aquaseahorselove3939 I’m afraid of the transition period, but I definitely want to replace it with microclover or another type of low maintenance ground cover

      @@juanpinto5743 I just watched a video this morning where someone planted peanuts for their ground cover. The peanuts grow under the ground and add nitrogen to the soil. I’d be worried it would attract squirrels 🐿 and that wouldn’t be good for my vegetable garden. 🤔

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 года назад +1

      LOL! Yes, the backyard has lots of grass. I take it bit by bit with the transformation. I have been testing lawn alternatives in my yard trying to figure out what would be the process and what would work well. If it won't work well for a few square feet... I want to know before I create a mess for myself.

    • @juanpinto5743
      @juanpinto5743 3 года назад

      @@WildFloridian You should make a video on the alternatives you've tried, what has worked, and what hasn't. Lawn replacements are hard in Florida with the amount of heat and heavy rain we can get.

    Thank you for the tour of your back yard. I hope we will see it more often. How about replacing some of your fern with Florida's native cycad, the coontie. It would look similar to your ferns and is also the host plant of the rare and endangered Atala butterfly. The "fern" next to the coffee plant is actually a philodendron. I think it is Philodendron selloum. You still have a lot of lawn that you could turn into more garden space in the future. Unfortunately, the sound of the video is a bit on the low side. I have to turn my speakers up all the way to hear you nicely, but then, when an ad pops up, the ad is suddenly very loud (due to the volume turned up).

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 года назад

      That is a great idea about the coontie! Thank you on the plant id. My husband is always telling me to take it slow with the garden transformation 😂 Which is good, because keeping up with the other parts and work and RUclips is a lot. Bit by bit. Your not the first to tell me about the sound… it seems that since I switched to editing on the computer the sound balance is waaaay off. I’ll to try something different on these next videos and I hope that makes it better. Don’t hesitate to let me know if it doesn’t. 😄

    I love this! I’m going to have to watch it again with subtitles to write down the names of everything. That very last bush, did you say coffee plant? The east side of my yard is full sun, but the west side is shaded because of oak trees towering over. I am looking for stuff to grow in the shaded side. It does get filtered sun. I’m running out of room to put things on the east side because everything seems to need so much full sun. My backyard faces south which is good I guess.
    Thank you again for this video! Your backyard is beautiful! My goal is to plant so many things around the perimeter like you have that you can’t see my privacy fence anymore. 😊

      The plant is Shiny Wild Coffee… great for pollinators and birds. Also try native petunia and twin flower.

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 года назад +1

      Mumbai! I have friends there. I would look to see what is native first but it seems some plants are commonly grown around the world. Most of the plants I know for butterflies come from the Americas and may be invasive plants for you. Lantana is all over but you would need to get the sterile type since it causes problems for deforestation. Firebush may be sold there. Pentax are great! But honestly your butterflies will like plants from there.
