I recently found your channel and watching your videos is getting me through this long cold winter and looking forward to spring. The dedication it takes to make a video like this is remarkable. One entire year of documenting your dahlias! I make videos too and I have a hard time just doing 20 minutes in one day! This is fantastic and you deserve all the praise for all your hard work. LOVE IT:)

Kòb khun, Crane! I loved the whole year of dahlias! I'm watching it here in zone 3-4. My garden has been completely tucked in for the winter now. We've had a little snow but it went away. We need lots of snow to protect the plants when the temperature goes down to -40° in January some years. To see you out with dahlias in November is amazing to me. Thank you for your happy self, your happy dances in the garden, and your happy music. We need some happiness now.

Another fantastic video! The amount of time, effort and love that went into making this video is so cool. I got my first dahlia tubers about a week ago from Swan Island Dahlias, and I'm so excited to grow them and try out your tips. You had tons of great information in this video, it will be a greatly thorough resource for anybody that wants to grow dahlias. And what a journey it's been for you growing these beautiful flowers. Well done on the production quality of this video as well - it was beautifully filmed, the stories that you told were inspiring, you had tons of valuable information and the music was perfect. Every time I had a moment of "oh well I wonder how this would work" you would explain it right after lol.

Wow! That was a huge video project!! So many will be blessed with the knowledge you so generously shared! I forwarded this to many of my flower friends. I needed the encouragement today. I am drowning in the tuber clumps that I dug up last week. I am leaving lots of dirt on them but it is taking me forever to clean up the clumps just to place into the paper bags and haul them box by box to the basement. I have about 300 huge clumps. I don’t know how these farmers with thousands of plants do it! I put compost, sheep wool, Plant tone and bonemeal in the hole before planting. Let me know if you would like me to send you a bag of sheep wool for planting next Spring. 🐑 😊

How very lucky for me that you are teaching us about dahlias! I cannot leave any tubers in the ground where I live, it gets to be -40C, which is also -40F here in the winter and unless the plant is rated for Zone 3, everything else will freeze, (some Zone 4 plants may also survive)! I have a plastic container filled with wood shavings to protect my tubers, I look at them at least once a month. I got an email from Johnny's Seeds this week announcing three new zinnia varieties, so I ordered two and I also bought some giant dahlia seeds I will start in January. I am so excited! Thank you so much Crane, for this insightful video and I am so happy the tubers you left over winter survived! Cheers from Gloria who gardens in Mundare, Alberta, Canada!

I’ve told myself I’m not ordering any new varieties for next year, but it’s very hard to resist. On another topic, have you seen the new Zinnia varieties that Johnny’s has bred? There’s one called ballerina, I think, that you might like. They have 2 others that are juicy colors, and I bought both of those along with their new celosia. And, of course I don’t need anymore seeds, either, but I couldn’t stop myself😊

Me gustaria tener un pedazo de parcela con riego pa. Tener a mis dalias tan hermosas como las tienes pese a la altitud en que vivo las conservo y son hermosas

Hi Crane! Do you put your dahlias in hot water after harvesting?

Hi! I don’t do that. It’s just too much work for me. I am sure it will help but at the same time I feel like cutting it fresh is most important.

I've only grown dahlias from seed, grew them under grow lights and put them into my raised kitchen garden bed.
They did well, attracted a lot of aphids, deflecting the bugs from my tomatoes, lettuce etc. I'm still debating on buying tubers, I find them expensive and I'm not sure I can commit to taking them out of the garden at the end of the season. What are your favorite varieties as (long lasting) cut flowers? Thank you for this comprehensive video Crane! 💚
