Thanks for the tip! You're right there is loads more there. May have to make another video in a month or two once I've had a good play and thought of some cool new scenes to create.
Lee, your videos are authentic and unique and that's valuable! Regards my friend, and just to let you know that I drive my TESLA on the same way as you manage your basketball career... :)))))
Thank you. I'll have you know I captained my high school basketball team. What I lacked in height, I made up for in effort and loads of three points practise. 😜
@@killianmacdonald Thanks for letting me know. Yes, you're right, that does kinda defeat the purpose. hopefully somewhere between Apple and Tesla, they can sort it out.
Hi. Thanks for the video. I have the latest Tesla App and Latest Shortcuts. When I find Tesla in Shortcuts, the “see all” is not there and also the “Turn on Tesla Shortcut with Siri” is also not there. Basically I can’t get Siri to run any of the shortcuts. 😞
HI, I'm afraid I am not sure what else you can do. It sounds like you're doing everything right. I have found that if you have used some other apps like Watchla or Stats up to setup shortcuts before, sometimes that can cause this from not working.
New Tesla shortcuts. Had to reboot my phone after upgrade for the shortcuts to up. The trunk open and close not working for me. Says it opens and says it close but doesn’t. Everything else works fine.
Great video and explanation Lee of this new feature. Using your example of opening the boot why not use the bigger tesla widget and add 5 icons to include this function. That way just unlock your phone, select the tesla widget in the stack and hit the button 😊
Yes, lots of options. I must admit I haven't spent nearly as much time in the shortcuts app over the years that I would have liked to. Will need to find some time over the next little while to have a good play with it.
I noticed that while the command doesn't work to actually open the trunk, it does unlock it so I use the manual release button above the license plate without having to unlock the doors. Not sure that's the intended function since I've seen it actually open the trunk for other users, so it's probably a bug.
That's interesting, I've found that using the button on the trunk has always unlocked the car and opened the trunk for me. So at least from my experience unlocking the trunk or car via the app isn't needed. Am I understanding correctly what you've said?
@@notacarguy_au Yes, that's correct. However, I have drive door unlock mode enabled which disables the rear trunk unlock button functionality. So now using the open the rear trunk command shortcut -- it seems it gave me the ability to unlock the trunk now without having to use the app, so I believe. Albeit, it doesn't actually open.
Sorry to hear that. I had that issues a few times with third party apps, but not with since this update. I hate to be "that guy" but are your phone, watch and Tesla app all up to date?
Good question. I think it's a yes and a no. I only starting playing with it today and sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. I haven't worked out what I am doing differently. I think when it didn't work, my watch was out of range of my phone. But I need to do more testing.
@@notacarguy_au I noticed the shortcuts don't automatically go to the Apple Watch. Those need to be added via the Shortcuts app / Apple Watch in order for them to work that way.
I did manage to get the Siri on my watch to work once, and then it didn't. I think maybe it only worked as I was within range of my phone? I need to spend a bit more time with the whole setup and play with it to see why it did work once and now I can't get it work on the watch either.
Thanks for replying champ! i just realised its not the Tesla iOS, its the Tesla App version which should be 4.24 (I am still on 4.23), which is not released to all apple devices in AU yet.@@notacarguy_au
Before this update I created a bunch of shortcuts including opening and closing boot using 3rd party API's. Strange Tesla couldn't get this working on this first release!
I think, and I stress, that I think as I don't know for sure is that the phone gets confused if multiple apps have the same commands. So you could try turning off Siri commands in the other apps and only using the shorts cuts option. You could also try the ol, uninstall and re-install some apps to see if that helps? 🤷🏻
That's a good question. I don't know for sure as I can't test it, but I think if you put the name of specific Tesla in the command that may do it. So for example my car is called Blue Flame, so if I said "Hey Siri open the trunk on Blue Flame" That may work. Hope that makes sense and let me know how you go. ☺️
@@notacarguy_au I have two different names for my S and Y. I will try your suggestion. However, I figured the solution by clicking on my picture(account) then selected model S. Now Anytime I say Tesla, it is my Model S.
@@notacarguy_au thanks for tye quick reply. I was able to figure it out. Under my account if I select say model S it will lock that by just saying lock Tesla. However, your method is better. I did test it by adding the name of the car after Tesla. Now I need to learn how to "Start" my 2018 model using Siri. Is that possible?
Mine asks me which app I want to use when I set up the Tesla shortcuts. It will never just do what I ask, there’s always another app or list of them to choose from and so I have to give two separate commands second command being Tesla I’m reference for Siri to use the Tesla app. How can I fix this?
I am not entirely sure I understand what you mean, but if I do understand correctly, I think you need to remove to shortcuts from the other apps that can control your Tesla. I used the Watchla app for a while and removed the shortcuts that it created before I applied the Tesla ones. I can see how the Shortcuts app could get confused as you're saying the same thing and it could apply to two apps and so it needs to ask you which one you mean?
Hi, I made a booking for a Model 3 in Melbourne back in June and my expected delivery frame is June-August. But its already almost end of August whereas I didn't get any updates from tesla regarding the VIN or delivery information. When I tried calling them, they said don't keep your expectations for the time frame it might be delayed. So, this is how tesla usually does?
That wasn't my experience, the time frame was pretty accurate for us. But I suppose there can always been challenges from time to time. I do appreciate that it can be frustrating waiting for the car to arrive and not having much insight into what is going on. If you want there is a service called VaderPrime that when I did it was $15 per month and once you have a VIN they can give you more insight into were your car may be.
Ok strange that when I click on the shortcut to create an automation it just executes the command as I can’t seem to edit that shortcut to create an automation🥴 Can you assist? I am on IOS17.3
I'm sorry I am not sure how to help with that. As in my other comment, I've found the only thing that has helped in situation like this is to remove and other apps or turn off their "Siri functions". As I think the phone gets confused as to which app can and can't send commands. But that's just a theory, I don't know that for sure.
I enabled siri for the Tesla shortcuts but whenever I try, siri says "you'll need to download an app for your car, or add a car key to the wallet app". What am I doing incorrectly?
Hey Lee, Have you ever had that thing where your car slams the brakes out of nowhere (phantom breaking) while on autopilot? If you have, how often does it go down, and what do you think about it?
I have had it happen a few times. Not that much over the year that I've had the car. It's a good example of why you do still need to pay attention when your driving on autopilot. I think I had a short example of it happening in this video and talked about it a bit there. - ruclips.net/video/Y6pqIQWqx0Y/видео.html
I can’t test this so am not sure, but I think you can say “hey Siri” and then the name of the Tesla and that way it knows which one you want the action to happen on.
I blame siri, its the most useless assitnat, i remember the good old days when siri actually read out what it found. but to be honest, i dont think ill use the shortcuts to control the car.
Useful tip about the shortcuts on my homescreen. Thanks.
Glad you found it useful. 👍🏻
Ok could've gone with a less intense bleep than a loud trunk honk gave me the fright of my life lol
Sorry about that. I'll try to find something a bit less "blunt" next time. 🤷🏻☺️
FYI there are more Tesla actions in the shortcuts app if you set up a new shortcut via the '+'

Yes, though I am not sure were the issue is. So may not be a quick fix. 🤷🏻
If your phone isn’t registered as a key, the boot/trunk shortcut works - but what good is that! Appreciate this issue being highlighted here
