He never mentioned the Toyota Prius is the most reliable car on the planet. We own 2 Prius v Wagons and love them. Much easier to see out of and love the more normal hatch compared with regular Prius. Almost as much cargo area as the CRV we sold after owning the Prius v. Our yearly average gas mileage 43 MPG. With a 2010 regular Prius Hatchback, we averaged 55 MPG yearly here in Maine.
Great review! After watching it though, I thought of 3 things. 1. That slot on the left is for a stack of business cards. In Japan, a business card is your lifeline. 2. For the rear seats, in addition to being able to recline, they also slide forwards and backwards independently, creating even more legroom in the rear! 3. That annoying reverse gear beep beep beep can be modified by a dealer. They can program it to just beep once when put in reverse....it'll save your sanity. I have the 2013 V and LOVE it!
1. Not for business cards. The former Japanese introduction with business cards or "meishi koukan " has very specific rules and I'm not sure one would give his business card one hand from inside his car :). Highway payment system "ETC" works with a card in Japan and this area usually welcomes a card slot. I guess you can have one mounted in the US for an E-Pass or a similar system I guess. Cheers from France.
MIke, Thanks so much for the very detailed overview of the 2015 Prius V. It's now October, 2019 for me and I'm doing research before buying a used Prius V. It's very possible I'll buy a used 2015 since a used one is so much cheaper. The only thing I'm not sure of yet is what trim level I'm going to buy. Whichever one I decide to buy, I will definitely get it inspected by a hybrid garage (or Toyota dealership) to make sure it's OK.
Position "B" does not charge you battery! When you regularly brake, you brake with your generator and you recuperate your power back. When you use B you use your gasoline engine to brake. You use this position when coasting from hill and your battery is full.
This is an excellent review.... very detail-oriented... you showed close-ups of almost every feature/control and demonstrated many of them... and you described things to the best of your knowledge... and you didn't have any distracting music... I was able to still-frame and see things... very nice.... This will enhance the "familiarity factor" when someone decides to go for a test-drive... Thanks for your contribution. Subscribed and liked!
Thanks for going into detail on all the storage areas. I have a 2013 regular Prius and have been considering a Prius V for more room/storage. Really helpful!
Like your presentation. I am thinking of buying a prius and like the new styling. Just have to decide on which one i want to buy. Love all the cargo space and design in this model. Hope the others are just as well done. Will look for your other models. thanks
@ 12:35 I believe that small slot in the dash there is actually a small remnant port usually for dealer installed ETC units here in Japan. ETC cards are those things that let you pass quickly through toll booths here and some cars can come installed with them standard
Lillian Luscher We have very favorable first impression. We had a Prius hatchback previously, but I really did not like the visual obstructions and the weird split back window. The V has much better lines of sight.
Thanks. That was very helpful! Even the harsh correction about the 'B' on the shifter in the comments from a viewer. Thinking of getting one. On the Chevy Volt it has a lever on the steering wheel that actually does aid in regenerative braking. So an easy conclusion, albeit wrong this time. I thought the same thing as you!
Slot on left side of steering wheel in dash under vent is a credit card holder - looked it up on Prius Chat - it was driving me crazy to know!!!! Love your detailed reviews!
Gary D Actually, that slot is for name/business cards, not credit cards. Name cards are very important in Japan, it's always given to everyone you meet. I wouldn't recommend putting credit cards there, it'll get stolen!

I really appreciate the job you did in explaining all if the items available on this model. Thanks for making it simple. Did you do the same for the other priuses? I'd like to view them also.
Great video. Next time I would recommend taking a look at the drivers seat more. We can’t tell if it has power seats lumbar support or anything. Also turn the wheel when showing the backup camera. Do the lines turn also? Thanks
I have the same one, and since few days appeared a strange problem. During dark time of the day, if you switch on the driving lights or just switch it in auto mode, the information didplay is getting dark and no any info on it. Maybe somebody has /had the same issue. Share the solution. Thank you.
As old as this comment is - the spare tire (a compact one) is under the first level "basement" under the rear floor. The storage trays pull out, revealing the tire well.
Looks like the backseats don't fold flat and flush with the cargo area. Major annoyance. Also looks like Toyota chose styling over safety when it comes to rear visibility.
So if you are driving the car can a person walk up to the car and unlock it when you stop at a light? I want to take the back seats out and install a BED ! $30 K screw that getting a used one?

Aleksei Lapshin Thanks for the correction!
This is partially correct. MG1 is assisting in braking. Without MG1 the engine cannot provide any engine braking at all. At
Great thorough review, I bought myself one of these after watching this video. It covered every detail I was hoping for. Thanks Mike!

Update in 2021:
2015 prius V gen 4...
Still loving this vehicle. No issues at all. A pleasure to drive.
How much you brought it for in 2015?

Man youre really doing something great. Pls do the other 2 priuses
Will do. Thanks!
The V is for versatile!
Just bought a new Prius V two days ago. Your review is great and just what I needed. Thanks!
Lillian Luscher Thanks for your feedback Lillian! Please share my videos if you can... It helps me and others like you.

Gary D Thanks Gary!
Gary D That space is used for HUD Display controls on Prius+ (European version) and as you say it's used as card holder in US version

I really enjoyed your review on this car. We are planning to buy it. Thanks so much you did a great job.
I wish you had done a video on the previous gen V. I just bought a 2014 model

+C Minneapolis Thank you for your feedback! I have a video of the regular Prius if that helps.
I learned so much about my car! Thank you for making this video!
It’s the place to put the electronic Key
My grandma might like it she had a first gen Prius a 2001 back in 2003 she hates the 2 gen and 3 gen Prius and it small

The button is for lumbar.
Everything else is manual levers.

The dimmer dial to the lower left of the steering wheel should increase screen brightness if you roll it "up"
Wonderful Engine !... Everybody can get it.
V for Versatility
Rarely ever find this year below $10k these days
Great video - thanks!
*_Mike I need some car info!_*
Hi Mike was this a Two, Three, or Four?
+scott l Model: 1245-Three
More info in the description.
+MikesCarInfo This Prius V is controlled by a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with Regenerative Braking.
+Earl Matthew Avila most electric cars have cvts if not all*
Yy
Some would call that front end "striking".
*Others might simply call it "ugly".*
V means vercitility
well, if youre a hunter, you can fit a lot in here
That thing is for your cell phone which is bluetoothed to the steering wheel.
No spare tire?

The back up camera is so off-center it makes me want to scream

They are happy that now.
Getting a used one is a good idea
