CONTINUE FM MSG BELOW: so I'd put $ down on the hatchback and was unhappy with my decision because I didn't like the split rear windshield etc. then I found this video and the V addresses ALL the concerns I had about the standard hatchback the salesman was trying to sell me. So I can't thank you enough for this outstanding video. I finally feel good about my decision. Thanks a million!
Bob thanks for making this video of the Prius V. I have a 2010 Prius and a 2011 Honda CRZ hybrid, once we start a family the CRZ hybrid will be traded for the V. We get about 40mpg in the CRZ hybrid so getting better mileage + tons more rooms will be a blessing. I get about 55mpg in my 2010 Prius and love the car. I had a 2006 Prius that I put 143,000 miles on it, never had any issues with either Prius. The 06 got about 50mpg and was much louder on the highway than the new one. Nice work...
I am running at about 4.7 l/ 100 Km. (about 60 mpg Imp.) most of the time in the spring through fall, but less than that in the winter when a lot of energy goes into heating. It's easy enough to do better than that if you are easy on the pedal, and one of my contacts from the video reports getting 4.1 l/100 Km on regular commutes running at about 85 km/h. I think the auto lock just means that if your doors are not locked, they will do so automatically once you start driving.
Hi Everyone. Here's an update as of April 19, 2020. I still own the Prius V that is in the video, the one that I bought back in 2011. My mileage is now about 250,000 Km (155000 miles). I am still in my second set of tires, and my front brakes have been replaced but the back ones do not need replacement yet. I still enjoy the versatility of the vehicle, and I can put the seats down and load it up with a couple of dozen 2x4's at 8 foot lengths, and not have them touch either the dash or the trunk door. I also put my 10 foot long kayak in there, and still close the trunk door. Nifty vehicle, and I don't see any reason to trade it in.
Thanks for making this! It was good to see in detail the gauges and audio system, which I didn't spend as much time looking at when I did my test drive. I think I've pretty much decided on getting this car (with the "luxury" trim package so that I can have the moon roof).
Hi 111dcormack. Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. The manual only specifies child seat anchors for the outside back seats. I'm not sure if you could find a fix for including a third seat.
I'm a former trucker your mirror setting is not only safe but night driving your side mirror don't flood your cockpit with light when you get a tailgating jerk with his bright lights on.
Thank you very much for the video. Very insightful and informative especially from a Canadian perspective where I found majority of the vehicles are reviewed from the States.
FANTASTIC video Bob, can't thank you enough. I have a few questions about your new V. Does it have better audio than your 2010 Prius did? The stereo sound in the 2012 Prius I test drove wasn't great. Also, what kind of MPG are you getting on your 2012 Prius V? One last question if you don't mind me asking lol. Could you explain the auto lock by speed feature? I'm not sure what that's about. THANKS SO MUCH!
Wow it still gets great gas mileage then! I went ahead and purchased one! Got a red 2012 Prius V package II, it should be here Tuesday! I can hardly wait! I traded in my 2007 Toyata RAV4 so it will take a little getting used to, driving a smaller vehicle but I'm sure not having to pay 40 dollars a week in gas won't take any getting used to! Thanks for explaining auto lock. The salesman couldn't tell me what it was. Your video saved me! I didn't know there was a Prius V and I had put $ down ....
The fuel economy for the Toyota prius v is 44 city 42 hwy 40 combined, although the Ford C-MAX has a better driving experience and interior materials/design.
cool review, love the car, I have an older 2007 prius, top spec package. Im just surprised to hear you say you find the V has a better rear view b/c it does not have the rear line in the hatch. I love that feature of my Gen 2 prius, especially b/c it is tinted and never gets wet, and never has snow on it.
Great review! I'm looking into a Prius V to replace my VW Jetta TDI Wagon. I need to fit a double bass and two teens inside. Another big consideration - how does it do in the snow and hills? I'm in NY. Thank you!
Hi. I already own a 2010 prius and to be honest i`m not happy with it. WHy ? It`s the ride, the car is too firm. I switched form 17` trims to 15` and yet too firm. Also, the running noise is deplorable. At speeds higher than 90km/h it is a big problem, if i drive several hundred km i`m extremely tired at destinatin, due to high road noise. Please tell me if the Prius V has any improvements regarding these 2 issues... Thanks.
If you have high mileage tires there harder compound and make more road noise made that mistake I bought good year triple treads for a Subaru I have great handling BUT they are noisy 😳
I had the base model for both the 2010 Prius and the 2012 V, so I can't comment on the better sounds systems, but I would rate the one on the V as being significantly better, especially if you used the controls to tweak it. I don't think you will get premium sound from any base model, though.
Great walkthrough! I know this is a little item but... Your video is the first that shows where the spare tire is located. I was starting to think the car did not come whit a spare.
why do people love the rear sliding seats, its such a contradiction. In my POV, if you need more storage space just fold the rear seats down, otherwise keep them locked into max interior space settings. You agree??
Thanks, Brycesail. I figured out how they got the surfboard in there. If you take the headrest off the front passenger seat, you can lay the back horizontal to the floor. Then you move the backrest of the backseat forward, put down a couple of mats and you end up with much more than 8' of cargo space length. You could easily stack 8' lengths of 2x4" lumber in there without touching the front or back. Here's a pic, measuring tape set at 8' - bobfoster.ca/prius/front_seat_back.jpg
Really should not compare a Prius with a Prius. You can compare with a similarly sized vehicle. Prius V compared to Mark X Zi0 are relatively the same size and both are 7 seaters. The only advantage the Prius has over the Mark X, which has a Camry engine, is the 4.4L vs 10.04L per 100km. The Prius V cuts the fuel cost more than half.

Thanks for the video Bob! Much appreciated even in 2021
Great, comprehensive review. Glad to hear someone knows the difference between an Imperial and US Gallon. :)

I assume it has been reliable?
Fantastic vid Bob, you've said/showed me everything i needed to know about the Prius V in this Vid. thank you, Paul

What you now after as after 8 yesrs are passed , how z reliability , troubles needful to know your solid experience.

The 2010 base Prius does come with heated mirrors, I've got one! What did you do with your 2010? Trade in? Did you loose a lot?

If you hear road noise its one of two things: cheap tyres or the road surface.
If you have high mileage tires there harder compound and make more road noise made that mistake I bought good year triple treads for a Subaru I have great handling BUT they are noisy 😳

How is the Prius V after 3 years of driving including in terms of reliability and maintenance etc?
Hi Keith. Complete reliability. Scheduled maintenance and nothing more as I approach 94000 Km tomorrow.
Great! Thanks.
So about the battery... did it need replacing and if so, how much did it cost
Hi Bob, is the seat comfort better in the Prius V?
Great walkthrough! I know this is a little item but... Your video is the first that shows where the spare tire is located. I was starting to think the car did not come whit a spare.
thank you for the review. how is the ride position compared to the 2010 prius
Went to a dealer yesterday. The Prius V is just as roomy as a Camry to sit in.
Found that the Liftback Prius sits like a Corolla
why do people love the rear sliding seats, its such a contradiction. In my POV, if you need more storage space just fold the rear seats down, otherwise keep them locked into max interior space settings. You agree??
you can always remove rear headrests and sto them in the trunk area
Greatttttttt review.. Best, most thorough one found.🤗

The rear seats do no fold flat as in the original Prius .
Nice review, thank you!
V supposed to stand for Versatility 😎
its a different drivetrain, priou v has 1.8l vs 1.5
very nice detail thanks u sir

test drove one today, I like!
The consumer doesn't want prius V because they want better MPG . I use my car to camp with so I want the space.
Looks identical to the first gen mazda 5
Best!
Buy a Chevy volt or ford fusion.... This car has a bad history of braking problems (recalls)
By a Tesla and you have no service at all
Both discontinued
Love canada haha
Bob is a very dull person.
