'Awaydays is based In England, where 19-year-old Paul Carty is bored with middle-class life. After his mother dies, Carty gets his friend Elvis, to induct him into The Pack, a group of soccer hooligans. Obsessed with The Pack and hanging out with the group's leader, Godden, Carty ignores his sister (Holly Grainger) and becomes immersed in a world of sex, drugs and music, until someone ends up dead, and his relationship with Elvis gets a bit more complicated.

Oh, right: Unpopular opinion - It's a really brilliant film. I love it. It was incredibly poignant and the ending was heartbreaking. Brill trailer.

I've only recently watched the film and i've found out it was poorly received by the public which utterly baffles may. In my eyes this movie was poetically brilliant with a real seance of grittiness to it-(Almost similar to "This is England") I didn't find the pacing off at all if anything my eyes were glued to the screen and my heart was racing for the last 15min of the movie.
Such amazing characters, My personal favourite Elvis. What a soul and deeply sympathetic even tho i'd imagine he'd hate sympathy. I believe there was still a lot to be said about his character...

Best of the glut of hooligan films by far that came out at the time and much more than that with the wider social and cultural references of Merseyside in the late 70's,. Decent storyline, especially where it involves the complex and tortured soul Elvis and yearning for a different life with inferences of unrequited gay love for Carty, the central character. Brilliant post-punk soundtrack and a well worthy work of art.

it was set in the towards the back end of the 70s ,not 80s , when scousers and merseyside lads in general started wearing straight jeans, short or wedged hairstyles, fred perry and polo tops, and adidas training shoes ,slazanger jumpers as fashion wear , this is while the rest ,including manchester were still wearing their wrangler jackets, wide jeans and feather cut hairstyles and wearing airwear boots still

Yes brother uve got it spot on there ! It also shows how ahead liverpool, birkenhead woz with music n life in general! The snide 50P coins, boxes of trainers in elvis,s room, plus baby the heroin dealer! Graftin to get money coz at that time it woz bad in Merseyside for work! Awesome film, shows how ahead of their time Scousers were, and to this day we still r, very unique! Put ten lads in a room from different towns a cities a one scouser! Bet u cud point out the Scouser without anyone talking! We've got a way about us that nobody else has! The film woz more than just footy hooligans , life in liverpool, birkenhead at that time! Scousers rule the country, like we've always done before! YNWA

I loved this film I have watched it countless times ,tbh not the greatest film I have ever seen but it's the styles that elvis has and carty with the music that did it for me! ,this also inspired me to adidas in a big way with purchasing a pair of forest hills and Stan smiths ,now I'm adidas mad I have even bought a anorak similar to what the casuals are wearing too ,loved that aspect of it!

ben webster I Have had an obsession with addias trainers for years now. I have that many pairs that I am running out of space storing them. Forest hills are without a doubt the cheapest crapest addidas trainers around though. I go for Gazelle, Hamburg, samba, London, Jeans or spezial. All rare colours what nobody else has. The jeans in original colours are smart trainers.

Please dont tag the 'Casuals' label onto what I and a couple of hundred lads from the Road end started. It was totally unique to Liverpool. A very deliberate and well thought out look, taking influence from the likes of Bowie, Roxy etc. We took sportswear out of the gym, off the tennis courts and onto the street. All capped off with a wedge haircut.

Hi. The film doesn't tag any particular club, unlike the book! The whole 'Look' of the film is a nod to what happened in Liverpool at the end of the 70's. Lads like me, and the author of the book wore what was almost a 'uniform'. Influenced by Bowie, roxy and some very creative Annie Road boys. A very deliberate effort at creating a totally new and 'stand out' look took shape on the streets and terraces of Liverpool.

It's a good movie I like it and a great cast but I don't understand why the main theme is just one in the closet homosexual football hooligan who wants to bum the new guy who unfortunately for him is straight. Like...it just goes on and on and on with that story. Kinda sad TBF how Elvis ends up doing hard drugs to mask his feelings and pain.
