    "Jerycho z Marcelem Peresem wskrzesza muzykę z liturgii chrztu Mieszka I
    W grudniu 2019 roku ukazała się kolejna płyta zespołu Jerycho. Tym razem jest to wynik współpracy Bartosza Izbickiego z Marcelem Peresem. Muzykologiczne poszukiwania tych dwóch wybitnych naukowców i muzyków doprowadziły do możliwości przedstawienia słuchaczom wielce prawdopodobnej wersji muzyki, która towarzyszyła uroczystości chrztu Mieszka I, czyli budowała kulturowe fundamenty naszej polskiej państwowości."

      Looks like the original hymn was a bit longer...

    What is the difference between this and gregorian chant? Or is this gregorian Chant?

      This is Gregorian Chant. Features of Gregorian chants are: unanimity, melismatics, i.e. making several sounds on one syllable, a cappella, Latin texts, based on modal or church scales, texts mainly from the Holy Bible, neumatic notation;
      the basis of the composition is the text, symbiosis of the lyrics and melodies.

      This is not Gregorian chant, but rather a mix between old Gregorian and medieval polyphony.

      @@FBarge You are right. But I think we could call this a Gregorian chant (and - yes - in "ancient" or "German" melodic version, which was popular in Poland in pre-Tridentine times) and it is sung with added polyphony in the style of "discantus" (10th/11th century). And also, as a "hymn", it is sung with fixed rhythm. Greetings from Poland!

      @@jerycho5705 Thanks for the clarifications! I am a huge fan of what you do, following Marcel Peres and the Organum ensemble, being Catholic I find the most complex, nuanced and full expression of the One True Faith in medieval piety generally, and especially in sacred chant. I am French, and also love Poland from the very depths of my heart and soul.
