Neville criticising an Arsenal player is nothing new. I'd drop Kane and play Watkins. At least Watkins actually ran. Oh and WTF is going on with 'player of the season' Foden. Nah must be Rice fault. Maybe he was just tired from carrying the team in the first match. Come on FFS.

Rice was 1 of our best players in the first game as a 6, especially 2nd half
The reason he was moved to 8 by Arteta is Havertz was moved to play as a striker and we literally had nobody else to play the 8 apart from ESR. Whereas we had Jorginho and later Partey to play as the 6's
I do think he isnt as good on the ball as some of the other 6s, even Partey moves the ball between the lines better, and is better receiving the ball off the back 4, but when Rice plays as a 6 hes a ball winner, not a deep lying playmaker, there are different types of 6s

Neville although harsh isn’t wrong about Declan not being a 6. Playing as a 6 for West Ham under Moyes is not the same as playing as a 6 for Arsenal and England. There’s levels to it and there’s good reason Arsenal went on the run we did towards the second half of the season when Arteta brought Jorginho in as the 6 and moved Declan to 8. He can play as an 6/8 hybrid because certain phases he does incredibly well as a 6 but he just doesn’t have the one thing all true 6’s need to have success in Arsenal’s system and that’s progressive passing.

Hi Charles, Looking @Ukraine's game vs Slovakia @Euros; Zinchenko demonstrated both his strengths and weaknesses in the match: a lapse in concentration led to the goal Ukraine conceded, but he also provided a beautiful assist for his team's equalizer. Despite his inconsistency, I believe he can be valuable in certain games, so I would recommend keeping him for the new season

Charles, over the last 24 hours or so there has been numerous links with Nico Williams again. I thought his wages demands were too high but after that Italy game i just think we should get him now that Olise is moving to Bayern and Neto is such a injury prone player. Relatively cheap release clause for his age and performance, he will definitely be the bargain of the summer. One thing that comes to mind though is are we able to persuade him to come over to England and start as a backup for both wings. Other clubs who are looking at Nico(Chelsea,Liverpool and Barcelona) has a better chance of offering more playing time to Nico than Arsenal in my opinion.

I will say he looks like more of a winger to me & I think we may need more of an inside forward.
Take away the fancy footwork & He didn't look any better at crossing than Nelli & less of a goal threat.
He would need to add goals if he played here.
Mudryk scored more goals than Williams last season.
So did Nelli despitesuffering with injuries & losing his place.
Williams would need to improve his output big time.

    Hi Charles,
Great piece as always! I'm so worried about next season and hope we don't regress especially with the pressure of winning the league. See reasons below:
    1. Our key players look knackered because they haven't gotten enough rest from Arsenal and their international teams (Saka, Rice, Havertz.......even Saliba).
    2. I think we need new players that would be up and running/ at least ready to compete with these 'tired' players. Saka vs Nico Williams, Declan Rice vs Onana,Havertz vs a decent striker.
    3. I still think we need a striker because Jesus in terms of scoring is not dependable. What if Havertz is injured or loses form?
    4. I think we should keep Partey if we sign Onana. He should learn from Partey for a year.

  • @Jamesg93
    @Jamesg93 5 дней назад

    Hi Charles,
    Great content as always!
With Olise going to Bayern, do you think we may have a chance of signing Sane or Gnabry? The Munich attack is a bit crowded with both Sane, Gnabry, Coman, Musiala, Tel, Pavlovic and now Olise (as well as obviously Kane and Muller) so something has to give…
As exciting as Williams looks, knowing what we do about the high wages he’s on, I’d personally rather put that money towards a more established player like Sane or Gnabry who we know would be an instant success on either of our flanks.

I‘m not quite sure with Nico Williams - not if he‘s a good player or not, he‘s really good. But if the reports are correct, he wants to earn 300k… would be our highest earning player… and that for a not proven Prem player is a big risk and if it doesn‘t work out, it isn‘t a good groundwork for the contract extension of Saka and Saliba, they want to earn more than him and so on.
But my main reason for not going for him is the position. He‘s a LW - not really my priority position, due to Martinelli and Trossard there. I don‘t think he would be a rotation option (down to salary). So it would be interesting to see.

The patronising interviews with Danish manager and players before the game when the BBC interviewers asked how the Danish players would cope with the England team, must have fired up Denmark. This happens every tournament when we hear how England are the best team and then the amusing surprised studio reactions and media kicking when it goes wrong the first time they face a half decent team.
And while I'm on the subject of the England football team, the constant gushing over Harry Kane's goal scoring record in an era when penalties are given out freely is wrong. Back in the days when Lineker became England's highest goal scorer, penalties were very rare compared to now. Kane has had more international penalty goals alone than Lineker had in his entire playing career at club and international level. In addition teams like Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Gibraltar etc, did not play in international tournaments and there were very few chances to rack up massive wins against the smallest minnows which has boosted Kane's total considerably.

I think England were awful yesterday (I had to keep it podcast friendly I suppose lol), Kane especially, aside from his goal he wasn't giving us any options to build attacks because he wasn't making runs in behind the defenders. Instead he was jogging around the centre circle from side to side when he should be sat on the shoulder of the last defender ready to make those runs in behind like Watkins did within his first few moments after coming onto the pitch. I wonder whether Kane's legs are starting to go? He wasn't the only player who wasn't particularly good but I just get wound up when I see Kane playing like that. Our performance certainly wasn't helped by that god awful pitch though!

Rice has been good but well over estimated by our fan base last season. He has big limitations. He was great as 6 but.. he was big part of our lack of threat as a team playing there. Think Rice can evolve though. Idea he is a steal at 105 million is a nonsense though. I don't see Rice as world class 8 either. Hopefully he adapts and evolves to next level as Rodri did but the nerves thing is a thing. His worst games for us were often the biggest ones. Talk before pressure that he was the difference maker to get us over line was premature. He wasn't great in that Conference cuo nonsense. Ricecwill be fine but lets nit get carried away with his abilities without looking at his limitations.

Re Nico. Why not a sign on fee/performance bonuses in exchange for lower ‘standard’ wages, thereby not disrupting the wage structure, in an obvious way.

Hey Charles, Just about England. I think the balance in the defense is the issue more than the middle. Trent Rice and Jude should work in the middle but I can see Southgate going back to a back 3 and Saka taking one for the team and playing Left wing back. Walker or Trips wont last the full tournament..
I'm amazed with Shaws injury and how good Palace were at the back end of the season that Michell wasn't looked at especially if he was planning on playing Guehi

This Rice thing has got way out of hand here, Rice.... alongside Rodri has been in the top 3 midfield destroyers in European football last season. The consistency that Rice showed last year was unbelievable, he didn't pull less than a 7 out of 10 all season and to be able to do that in the Premier League shows what quality he has.
Rice was a victim of Southgate's tactical ineptitude and Trents inability to play in the midfield. Trent just isn't an Odegaard, it's as simple as that, he's an attacking right back. Our midfield is all over the place, Hendo is too old and Mainoo/Wharton are too inexperienced......... maybe they'll be ready for 2026 World Cup.

I think if we do sign Nico Williams, his talent does warrant being among the highest earners

    • @seunlabiran

Kid hasn't achieved anything to warrant him being among the highest earners at Arsenal. His talent isn't generational. All I see is a fast runner. Remember Mudryk? I just think fans are desperate for any signing at all but Nico Williams is not a ceiling raiser and is too expensive for a floor raiser

Y'all need to chill. Do not use your decisions to get a player on single game of tournament football .
Last game people were calling him a flop now one game later he is the greatest thing since sliced bread

Nico is fire, but will never come to sit on the Arsenal bench. He will not flourish on a slow attacking team. On the other hand, he can be great at Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Real.

Im not worried about Rice not having the best of game for England. It’s irrelevant right now because no set up by Southgate is getting England anywhere. Rice plays great for us so I say let them banter him. Teams will just lose to us next season

I’m going to be selfish and say I’m fed up with seeing Tierney injured every other week which will cost the club this summer as he won’t be sold as nobody can afford to take a risk on him. Just pay him off and get rid as far as I’m concerned.

As Arsenal fans why do we get so pressed with comments on our players. Neville was spot on. Decs is fantastic but there are players who can progress the ball and dictate the middle better than him he’s absolutely right. Jorginho & Partey are better than that than Decs so what’s the big deal😂

    • @dman8473

People see a figure for a release clause and forget the aspects of paying the full amount at once directly to La Liga (+ Taxes). I go back to how expensive the Partey deal was and how it required ownership to step in. I am no financial expert but with all these rules, the fact that we are yet to sell an Academy player in this transfer window and the wages he would command all have to be factored in. Deals for other wide forwards who may command bigger fees on paper atm still look more flexible and achievable.

    • @shano-eb9et
      @shano-eb9et 6 дней назад

Agreed, that’s why chelsea paid over Enzos release clause to get better payment structure.
The whole realease clause would go into next years books which would reduce the overall amount of spend available

Well Rice can run with the ball, Rodri can’t,He’s also quicker than him. Rodri can pass the ball better and very progressive with it!
