I think Hugh needed someone to blame & that someone was Victoria. As when Maurice died, Barry & Robin needed to blame someone or something. Hence, they blamed the hospital, although as it turned out, there was some blame there. I think to blame Victoria is sad, I also think his brothers could have stepped in, I mean, with Maurice's alcoholism, it was kind of turned a blind eye. As someone said somewhere else, I don't think Barry liked to upset the apple cart. Hence, everything in the garden was rosy.

I have to disagree on this one. If he had a medical sickness, condition or illness and he was trying to get well, that is one thing. But an addiction can only be overcome by the person’s will. No one can make them, they have to do it themselves. Victoria Principal stayed with him over a year trying to get him to help himself. No one should have to sacrifice their own lives for an addict who is not willing to accept and change.
Yes, Hugh was heartbroken and *angry*. His anger was misplaced though. He aimed it at Victoria. That's ridiculous. She and Andy had ended their relationship years before. And also Andy had been doing drugs lonnng before he ever met her. It's been said that Hugh drank himself to death over his grief of losing Andy. Andy was the 'golden boy' who never grew up. His brothers paved the way smooth for Andy. Handed him his career on a silver platter. Maybe if Andy had of had to go thru some very hard knocks like his older brothers experienced he would have been forced to mature, and maybe things would have turned out differently for him?.........

This couple produced such incredibly talented boys. Barry is a legend in music with his writing & vocals. The BeeGees are top 5 greatest groups of all time. Barry & Andy are also very beautiful men.
Barry wrote the very vast majority of the Bee Gees songs with his brothers. The catalog is tilted in favor of the ones he wrote alone because they released a bunch of flops in Australia before the twins began to write as well. I can't think of a single Bee Gees hit that Barry wrote alone although some he wrote with just Robin, not Maurice.

Third parties that observed the process said the same thing. All three brothers said the same thing. If Barry gives equal credit to Robin for anything, you'd best believe him because he's inclined to be uncharitable towards his brother. Even when he disses Robin in the same breath he has said "We worked together musically but no other way; we were brothers but not friends." Barry is certainly a great songwriter but he gets a bigger share of the credit for the Bee Gees success by the general public than by those who actually saw what went on. It's worth noting that he never had a successful solo album with songs he wrote by himself alone. His last one was huge because it was entirely songs from the Bee Gees catalog he wrote with his brothers. An instructive pursuit would be to follow the fate of Barbra Striesand's "Guilty" album which Barry and Robin wrote all the songs for and the follow-up she wanted to do with them 25 years later. Barry refused to let Robin participate but wrote the songs with his son Stephen. The album tanked, she hated it, wouldn't promote it and nobody remembers its existence while "Guilty " is still being downloaded all the time.

For Guilty, Robin &/or Mo helped write 5 of 9 tracks, the rest is Barry, with Albhy on 2. So no, Robin didn't help write all the songs on Guilty, but he sure liked to brag about it (& others they wrote for). The same thing with others stars' albums, only half the songs were written with one or more brothers. Also on Guilty Pleasures, of course Barbra wanted to work with Barry, & she likely wouldn't have approached Robin first in 2004 (or at all) if she knew what was going on. Robin betrayed his brothers in 2002 by rewriting & recording Andy's song, which Barry referred to as "a sacred object". The sound of carousels were added at the beginning of the song, because Andy loved carousels. Robin removed things that were added for Andy & changed the lyrics. Barry was devastated by what Robin had done & publicly said so, not to mention Robin did it behind their backs without them knowing. Robin knew if he asked, the answer would be a firm NO. He knew it was wrong. So why did he chose Wish You Were Here as one of two Bee Gees songs for his 2003 Magnet LP, when there were hundreds of other songs he could have chosen?? Plain & simple: Robin's revenge against Barry. Btw, I never heard Barbra say she "hated" her Guilty Pleasures LP. So when was this said??🤷🏻♀️

My opinion is that Victoria (and probably her publicist) crafted a carefully worded statement and that's the story that she has stuck with. Her concern is for protecting her reputation and Andy is not here to defend himself. Yes, Drugs were a part of Andy's problems but there were other issues as well. None of us will ever know the whole truth. I choose to believe Andy's father over Victoria. What is stated here is my opinion only - I understand where you are coming from and respect your opinion. You can't get past the fact that Victoria loved Andy very much, but she noticedhow his personality had began to change. When she realised that it was the drugs behind his change inpersonality, she asked him to choose between her and the drugs, she sadly recounts that he chose the drugsover his relationship with her. His three brothers tried over and over to get Andy to stop, but they were unableto prevent his spiral of self destruction, which ultimately led to his premature death. He did untold damageto his heart, and its that which eventually killed him. It sad that he never even got to know his daughter Petawho looked remarkably like him. It was such a waste to see this very talented man check out before his time.r.i.p. Andy.
Gary Dunn We will agree to disagree. You make your points and I respect that. My opinion is that Victoria's feelings for Andy never even came close to what he felt for her. I don't see her as sadly recounting his death - I see her speaking in a monotone and showing no emotion. She is an actress and a good one at that so she knows her craft well. I will continue to believe that her statements were carefully written as a way to uphold her image and reputation. Andy's career was faltering and she wanted to distance herself from that. I don't deny that Andy did have self-destructive behavior but I also believe that his emotional problems (anxiety, depression, high level of sensitivity and insecurity) were a big part of it too. Andy suffered a nervous breakdown after the break-up - not all drug users suffer nervous breakdowns and vice versa. We can only speculate - only Andy and his family know for sure. Andy Gibb reminds me so much of another sensitive soul - Heath Ledger. Perhaps sensitive men like this have a tough time navigating stardom. I know that Ledger had social anxiety; you can see it in interviews. They resemble each other, physically, as well. Both are truly missed.

My theory is this. VP found out about Andy's crush and swooped in. She was enjoying the fact that a handsome talented younger man adored her. She probably was going to let it play for a while and break it off anyway. She didn't count on him falling totally in love with her and though Andy had drug issues SHE did drugs as well. All in all she used him to feel good about herself. That's what I think.

So Andy was just a past time for her ! And also Andy;s career was more exciting than hers! so yes I agree with what others have said that she used Andy to get herself back in circulation while she waited on her divorce to finalize ... And to add insult to injury she ended up marring that plastic surgeon that Andy found for her! It really broke his heart! I would love to have the love that she threw away!!!! She just fell out of love with him, and didn´t want to deal with an emotional drug dependant, let´s put in her shoes for a while. By the way, their romance lasted just one year, and he died many years after they broke up. I just say that, sometimes, people die after their recovery from drug abuse, I don´t know very well why. Some people do drugs and nothing happen to them, some others, leave the addiction and after a while they die. There must be an investigation somewhere of why this happens. Same with smokers, some of them quit smoking and develop cancer, others, keep on smoking and nothing happens to them. It´s like, the body gets used to bad habits and when they change, the body can´t handle it. Just a thought.

She was LIKE a sister to him because she was raised by his parents. Having corrected that info, I wish to offer my sincere condolences to Barry, Leslie, and all the remaining members of the Gibb family.
The more I watch interviews about Andy, especially by his family, it seems to me Andy, as talented and handsome as he was, had so many issues in his life, that he needed a woman's love more than anything else, and that he may have experienced some trauma in his early years which has never been disclosed. His parents, while as loving and supportive as they were, didn't seem to recognise how much pain Andy was in over Victoria. They were adamant he was obsessed with her, however, I think he fell so deeply for her no other woman would ever match that level of emotion within him, and I think Andy himself knew that.... He had some beautiful and glamorous women in his life, yet, after seeing several interviews Andy himself gave, both newspaper and television, I think many underestimated his love for Victoria Principal - while I can only speculate, Andy's own words and mannerisms when talking about her show just how much in love with her he was, and the difficulty he had when talking about her, especially knowing she moved on.... Unfortunately, I don't think Victoria felt as strongly for Andy as he felt about her, however, I think it important to note Victoria has never openly said anything derogatory about or towards Andy. In fact, she has seemed to take blame for their breakup, staying silent about the hell she went through with his drug dependency issues. It appears the Gibb Family blame Victoria in part for Andy's death, so much so, Barry Gibb has made it known he wants nothing to do with Victoria in any way - barring her from Andy's Funeral and anything connecting Andy to Victoria in a professional way has never been released since Andy passed, and I think it fair to say it will never be. Andy's life was so sad, it is just a shame he never found that love, peace and happiness he longed for. One can only wonder what would have happened had Victoria stayed and stuck it out with him....

I have commented on other clips like this one that Victoria, while being with Andy for 13 months, didn't seem to show much emotion or seem to be as deeply into Andy as he was for her. However, to put it in perspective, Andy always admitted how he felt - both during and after his relationship with Victoria, while to me, Victoria didn't show much in terms of feelings or seem as invested as Andy was. I, along with you and everyone else, have only ever heard Andy's version of their relationship. While I do find Andy being truthful with what he believes their relationship to have been, I also acknowledge by Victoria staying silent all these years none of us truly know what went on between them. His family and majority of his inner circle have never been complimentary with their views regarding Victoria, but I also realise Andy had a massive issue with cocaine, and as I have never personally experienced what Victoria did with him, I don't jump on the blame the Victoria bandwagon. I can't and won't judge when I have never myself been in that situation. I am merely expressing what I think the view looks like from the outside in..... People don't seem to understand Andy was responsible for his own actions, and in one interview he gave, he openly admitted after his relationship with Victoria ended he 'just did' cocaine, and didn't think anything of it. That is not Victoria's fault. It seems easy to blame Victoria, but the truth is Andy Gibb had everything and threw it all away - Andy wasn't there for his then wife and daughter, yet he lived the party lifestyle and now, all these years on, comments are still being made about Andy's problems being Victoria and everybody else's fault but Andy's. I am a huge Andy Gibb fan, but to give him a pass on his own failings with his life, and to focus the fault at Victoria or anyone else who he believes wronged him is not realistic. Andy didn't think enough of his wife, or his daughter, he let them both down. Andy chose to take the drugs and live it up, and it ended up costing him his life - even his own parents and brother's admitted to that. I do agree Victoria leaving Andy caused him heartbreak, but he seemed to willing to focus the blame on her and not himself. Victoria gave him the choice, he chose the drugs.....
They’re numbed out. Hugh never recovered from losing Andy and he died of a broken heart a few years later. No chance he’d have survived losing two more of his sons. Barbara somehow managed to press on after burying Andy, Hugh, Maurice and Robin

This clip says Andy had a younger sister Berri, but she was really his niece, as she is Lesley’s daughter. I believe Hugh and Barbara raised her since Lesley was a teen when she had her.

I loved Andy Gibb!! I still do but I have to say regardless of what his father thought or acted toward his older brothers they played a big part in his success! Barry wrote his first number 1 song a few of them and they sing harmony in the background. Yes he was a true talent but Barry Gibb said his father never told them they did a great job. Andy hit the Music industry & Hollywood when it was “Soaked” in Cocaine so many in the Entertainment World was “doing it” and it just sucked Andy & lots of other young stars into it. With the myocarditis that he had with his heart the cocaine weakened it even further which in the end caused his death. So sad such a talented young man left this world so soon leaving his Family devastated & his Fans heartbroken. 😢

Andy suffered from depression at that time; they did not have the meds they have today. I'm sure he got tired of being compared to his brothers. There were interviews that just talked about his brothers, who were him at what he was their guest!

Here is something that I have thought about. Dealing with addiction has happened to thousands upon thousands of families, and it continues to do so to this day. It doesn't matter how rich or famous an individual or family is. No one is immune to addiction. Andy Gibb could have been your average Joe off the street, and this would still be just as tragic. It only seems more tragic because he and his family were world famous.
He was kind of a nasty bastard actually. He claimed Victoria Principal was the love of his life but threw her under the bus and blamed her for his coke addiction and inability to deal with life like a grown-up. He was completely unreliable about work commitments he made and did not care what his behavior cost those who took a chance on him. He had virtually no relationship with his daughter, who had to be supported by his brothers while he was still alive (and after his death).
This BEAUTIFUL married couple put everything in their hearts and souls when into family and they marriage and a very congratulations to them both I'm so happy and proud of both Hopefully they married again in heaven ❤️💜💛
The one thing it seems most women that dated Andy all seem to agree upon is that Andy had a kid like quality about him. Well it's because he was a kid. At 23 he lived a very sheltered life and didn't have much of a chance to mature to the degree he might have had he not been in show business. Sadly he never had the chance to mature not phyically but mentally. The one thing that he did seem to have was a genuine personality expecially when it came to the women he loved. I don't think the women he loved appreciated this quality. No offense to Victoria but I never did think she was in love with him. Any time she talked about him after his death seemed emotionless and scripted.

Poor Andy,he died of a SHATTERED heart,as he admitted he was the one that suffered a heavy breakdown after v and he broke up,anyone in his place would have felt the same.First his wife refused to follow him to the US with their baby girl,then v happened just as he was building his career with mostly Barry's help,who produced his albums and wrote all 3 songs that went to number1.There is nothing worse for a parent than to lose a child.He may long gone and way too soon but he is NEVER forgotten.

Blind hero worship. Check out Archives: Andy Gibb behind the Music (VH1) documentary transcript. It has interviews with his entire family with dates and timelines of events. His first wife did move to the US with Andy. She moved to Australia to have her baby because Andy wouldn't give up the drugs. I don't blame her. She was young and having a baby and no support from the father.
I think I remember a recent interview where Barry talked about his Dad being in the business and pushing the boys and being quite critical/hard to please...very little praise from him..Andy was bullied at school and quit school at age 13, quite a critical age to quit school...some people get really addicted to drugs and can't stop no matter who they love or who loves them and I do agree he was shattered by his breakup and didn't seem to possess the coping skills to deal with it...I love his music and miss him but hope he is at peace and was saved!
Beri, the young blonde lady who spoke, is not Andy's sister but his neice, his older sister Leslie's daughter. She was living with Robin in England at the same time Andy was although I don't know why. Leslie remained in Australia and raised her family there.

Andy benefited directly from all the work the Bee Gees put in. He had an immediate ‘in’ and a ready-made audience, because of the Bee Gees. As well as a proven hit-maker in his corner in the form of Barry. He was also the pale imitation of Barry in looks and voice. He has it made. It was too easy for him, literally handed to him, and he knew it, and it really bothered him and affected his sense of worthiness, self-esteem, self-confidence. In fact, he was downright depressed.

Good old Hugh Gibb, basking in the limelight of his sons' success. This was a man who, as Barry says, "had trouble with the rent." Who let his children support him. What a piece of work he was.
Think Hugh did love his children, but he wasn't a father who provided well for his family. Yes, growing up they'd leave during the night for not paying rent before being evicted. Though he played a role careers, he did seem to live off their success until he passed in 1992, almost 4 yrs to the day after Andy.

I have to disagree on this one. If he had a medical sickness, condition or illness and he was trying to get well, that is one thing. But an addiction can only be overcome by the person’s will. No one can make them, they have to do it themselves. Victoria Principal stayed with him over a year trying to get him to help himself. No one should have to sacrifice their own lives for an addict who is not willing to accept and change.

This couple produced such incredibly talented boys. Barry is a legend in music with his writing & vocals. The BeeGees are top 5 greatest groups of all time. Barry & Andy are also very beautiful men.
Barry wrote the very vast majority of the Bee Gees songs with his brothers. The catalog is tilted in favor of the ones he wrote alone because they released a bunch of flops in Australia before the twins began to write as well. I can't think of a single Bee Gees hit that Barry wrote alone although some he wrote with just Robin, not Maurice.

@en6278 Grease was not a Bee Gees song. Barry himself said he and Robin were the primary writers and Maurice contributed more towards the arrangements. Third parties that observed the process said the same thing. All three brothers said the same thing. If Barry gives equal credit to Robin for anything, you'd best believe him because he's inclined to be uncharitable towards his brother. Even when he disses Robin in the same breath he has said "We worked together musically but no other way; we were brothers but not friends." Barry is certainly a great songwriter but he gets a bigger share of the credit for the Bee Gees success by the general public than by those who actually saw what went on. It's worth noting that he never had a successful solo album with songs he wrote by himself alone. His last one was huge because it was entirely songs from the Bee Gees catalog he wrote with his brothers. An instructive pursuit would be to follow the fate of Barbra Striesand's "Guilty" album which Barry and Robin wrote all the songs for and the follow-up she wanted to do with them 25 years later. Barry refused to let Robin participate but wrote the songs with his son Stephen. The album tanked, she hated it, wouldn't promote it and nobody remembers its existence while "Guilty " is still being downloaded all the time.

If you had a clue youd know that means he is the main writer. Others get credits just as part of the financial deal. So they get their coins & have legal rights.
Barry's always been the driving force behind the Bee Gees writing. With the 1000+ songs Barry's known to have written, one or both twins contributed to 75-80% of those, the rest is just Barry. For Guilty, Robin &/or Mo helped write 5 of 9 tracks, the rest is Barry, with Albhy on 2. So no, Robin didn't help write all the songs on Guilty, but he sure liked to brag about it (& others they wrote for). The same thing with others stars' albums, only half the songs were written with one or more brothers. Also on Guilty Pleasures, of course Barbra wanted to work with Barry, & she likely wouldn't have approached Robin first in 2004 (or at all) if she knew what was going on. Robin betrayed his brothers in 2002 by rewriting & recording Andy's song, which Barry referred to as "a sacred object". The sound of carousels were added at the beginning of the song, because Andy loved carousels. Robin removed things that were added for Andy & changed the lyrics. Barry was devastated by what Robin had done & publicly said so, not to mention Robin did it behind their backs without them knowing. Robin knew if he asked, the answer would be a firm NO. He knew it was wrong. So why did he chose Wish You Were Here as one of two Bee Gees songs for his 2003 Magnet LP, when there were hundreds of other songs he could have chosen?? Plain & simple: Robin's revenge against Barry.

My opinion is that Victoria (and probably her publicist) crafted a carefully worded statement and that's the story that she has stuck with. Her concern is for protecting her reputation and Andy is not here to defend himself. Yes, Drugs were a part of Andy's problems but there were other issues as well. None of us will ever know the whole truth. I choose to believe Andy's father over Victoria. What is stated here is my opinion only - I understand where you are coming from and respect your opinion. You can't get past the fact that Victoria loved Andy very much, but she noticedhow his personality had began to change. When she realised that it was the drugs behind his change inpersonality, she asked him to choose between her and the drugs, she sadly recounts that he chose the drugsover his relationship with her. His three brothers tried over and over to get Andy to stop, but they were unableto prevent his spiral of self destruction, which ultimately led to his premature death. He did untold damageto his heart, and its that which eventually killed him. It sad that he never even got to know his daughter Petawho looked remarkably like him. It was such a waste to see this very talented man check out before his time.r.i.p. Andy.
Gary Dunn We will agree to disagree. You make your points and I respect that. My opinion is that Victoria's feelings for Andy never even came close to what he felt for her. I don't see her as sadly recounting his death - I see her speaking in a monotone and showing no emotion. She is an actress and a good one at that so she knows her craft well. I will continue to believe that her statements were carefully written as a way to uphold her image and reputation. Andy's career was faltering and she wanted to distance herself from that. I don't deny that Andy did have self-destructive behavior but I also believe that his emotional problems (anxiety, depression, high level of sensitivity and insecurity) were a big part of it too. Andy suffered a nervous breakdown after the break-up - not all drug users suffer nervous breakdowns and vice versa. We can only speculate - only Andy and his family know for sure.

Andy Gibb reminds me so much of another sensitive soul - Heath Ledger. Perhaps sensitive men like this have a tough time navigating stardom. I know that Ledger had social anxiety; you can see it in interviews. They resemble each other, physically, as well. Both are truly missed.

My theory is this. VP found out about Andy's crush and swooped in. She was enjoying the fact that a handsome talented younger man adored her. She probably was going to let it play for a while and break it off anyway. She didn't count on him falling totally in love with her and though Andy had drug issues SHE did drugs as well. All in all she used him to feel good about herself. That's what I think.
Andy was sweet and beautiful, but she was a fool dating him. He was too young emotionally. A child in a grown body.

She was old enough to know better and more mature ! she had already been married once and at the time I saw them together on the Phil Donahue show she was waiting on her divorce to be final! So Andy was just a past time for her ! And also Andy;s career was more exciting than hers! so yes I agree with what others have said that she used Andy to get herself back in circulation while she waited on her divorce to finalize ... And to add insult to injury she ended up marring that plastic surgeon that Andy found for her! It really broke his heart! I would love to have the love that she threw away!!!! She just fell out of love with him, and didn´t want to deal with an emotional drug dependant, let´s put in her shoes for a while. By the way, their romance lasted just one year, and he died many years after they broke up. I just say that, sometimes, people die after their recovery from drug abuse, I don´t know very well why. Some people do drugs and nothing happen to them, some others, leave the addiction and after a while they die. There must be an investigation somewhere of why this happens. Same with smokers, some of them quit smoking and develop cancer, others, keep on smoking and nothing happens to them. It´s like, the body gets used to bad habits and when they change, the body can´t handle it. Just a thought.

She was LIKE a sister to him because she was raised by his parents. The more I watch interviews about Andy, especially by his family, it seems to me Andy, as talented and handsome as he was, had so many issues in his life, that he needed a woman's love more than anything else, and that he may have experienced some trauma in his early years which has never been disclosed. His parents, while as loving and supportive as they were, didn't seem to recognise how much pain Andy was in over Victoria. They were adamant he was obsessed with her, however, I think he fell so deeply for her no other woman would ever match that level of emotion within him, and I think Andy himself knew that....
He had some beautiful and glamorous women in his life, yet, after seeing several interviews Andy himself gave, both newspaper and television, I think many underestimated his love for Victoria Principal - while I can only speculate, Andy's own words and mannerisms when talking about her show just how much in love with her he was, and the difficulty he had when talking about her, especially knowing she moved on....
Unfortunately, I don't think Victoria felt as strongly for Andy as he felt about her, however, I think it important to note Victoria has never openly said anything derogatory about or towards Andy. In fact, she has seemed to take blame for their breakup, staying silent about the hell she went through with his drug dependency issues. It appears the Gibb Family blame Victoria in part for Andy's death, so much so, Barry Gibb has made it known he wants nothing to do with Victoria in any way - barring her from Andy's Funeral and anything connecting Andy to Victoria in a professional way has never been released since Andy passed, and I think it fair to say it will never be.
Andy's life was so sad, it is just a shame he never found that love, peace and happiness he longed for. One can only wonder what would have happened had Victoria stayed and stuck it out with him....

@@tsmith7119 T as I mentioned above, Victoria and Andy's relationship was, to me, very one sided. I have commented on other clips like this one that Victoria, while being with Andy for 13 months, didn't seem to show much emotion or seem to be as deeply into Andy as he was for her. However, to put it in perspective, Andy always admitted how he felt - both during and after his relationship with Victoria, while to me, Victoria didn't show much in terms of feelings or seem as invested as Andy was.
I, along with you and everyone else, have only ever heard Andy's version of their relationship. While I do find Andy being truthful with what he believes their relationship to have been, I also acknowledge by Victoria staying silent all these years none of us truly know what went on between them. His family and majority of his inner circle have never been complimentary with their views regarding Victoria, but I also realise Andy had a massive issue with cocaine, and as I have never personally experienced what Victoria did with him, I don't jump on the blame the Victoria bandwagon. I can't and won't judge when I have never myself been in that situation. I am merely expressing what I think the view looks like from the outside in.....
People don't seem to understand Andy was responsible for his own actions, and in one interview he gave, he openly admitted after his relationship with Victoria ended he 'just did' cocaine, and didn't think anything of it. That is not Victoria's fault. It seems easy to blame Victoria, but the truth is Andy Gibb had everything and threw it all away - Andy wasn't there for his then wife and daughter, yet he lived the party lifestyle and now, all these years on, comments are still being made about Andy's problems being Victoria and everybody else's fault but Andy's.
I am a huge Andy Gibb fan, but to give him a pass on his own failings with his life, and to focus the fault at Victoria or anyone else who he believes wronged him is not realistic. Andy didn't think enough of his wife, or his daughter, he let them both down. Andy chose to take the drugs and live it up, and it ended up costing him his life - even his own parents and brother's admitted to that. I do agree Victoria leaving Andy caused him heartbreak, but he seemed to willing to focus the blame on her and not himself. Victoria gave him the choice, he chose the drugs.....

Hugh and Barbara Gibb are remarkably composed circumstances given, but of course it was very sad to lose their youngest son.
They’re numbed out. Hugh never recovered from losing Andy and he died of a broken heart a few years later. No chance he’d have survived losing two more of his sons. Barbara somehow managed to press on after burying Andy, Hugh, Maurice and Robin

I loved Andy Gibb!! I still do but I have to say regardless of what his father thought or acted toward his older brothers they played a big part in his success! Andy hit the Music industry & Hollywood when it was “Soaked” in Cocaine so many in the Entertainment World was “doing it” and it just sucked Andy & lots of other young stars into it. With the myocarditis that he had with his heart the cocaine weakened it even further which in the end caused his death. So sad such a talented young man left this world so soon leaving his Family devastated & his Fans heartbroken. 😢

Andy suffered from depression at that time; they did not have the meds they have today. I'm sure he got tired of being compared to his brothers. There were interviews that just talked about his brothers, who were him at what he was their guest!

I find similar sad endings in the lives of Andy and Elvis Presley who both died after their break ups. So sad. May their sweet souls Rest in Peace, Amen
Here is something that I have thought about. Dealing with addiction has happened to thousands upon thousands of families, and it continues to do so to this day. It doesn't matter how rich or famous an individual or family is. No one is immune to addiction. Andy Gibb could have been your average Joe off the street, and this would still be just as tragic. It only seems more tragic because he and his family were world famous.

He was kind of a nasty bastard actually. He claimed Victoria Principal was the love of his life but threw her under the bus and blamed her for his coke addiction and inability to deal with life like a grown-up. He was completely unreliable about work commitments he made and did not care what his behavior cost those who took a chance on him. He had virtually no relationship with his daughter, who had to be supported by his brothers while he was still alive (and after his death).
This BEAUTIFUL married couple put everything in their hearts and souls when into family and they marriage and a very congratulations to them both I'm so happy and proud of both

The one thing it seems most women that dated Andy all seem to agree upon is that Andy had a kid like quality about him. Well it's because he was a kid. At 23 he lived a very sheltered life and didn't have much of a chance to mature to the degree he might have had he not been in show business. Sadly he never had the chance to mature not phyically but mentally. The one thing that he did seem to have was a genuine personality expecially when it came to the women he loved. I don't think the women he loved appreciated this quality. No offense to Victoria but I never did think she was in love with him. Any time she talked about him after his death seemed emotionless and scripted.
Maybe they just weren’t compatible. I think deep down VP is not a bad person, just a different one to Andy. I think Marie would have been best fit for him but the heart wants what it wants!

i was walking into my kitchen in Boston when the radio reported his death. I literally froze in my tracks. years before I had seen him at the bitter end in greenwich village. phenomenal setting and performance.
All the brothers ,I saw it in an interview with Barry.....they all had either drugs and alcohol or both issues at one time in their lives. It stands to reason, all the money, fame, and plenty of down time which can get almost anyone caught up in substances.
Andy succumbed too young.

Bari is not Andy's sister, she is the daughter of Leslie Gibb. Leslie is the older sister of all the Gibb boys and the Aunt of Andy. So Bari is Andy's 1st cousin, NOT his sister. She also tried her hand at the music business. Barry Gibb actually gave her a song or two to record.

His first wife did move to the US with Andy. She moved to Australia to have her baby because Andy wouldn't give up the drugs. I don't blame her. She was young and having a baby and no support from the father.

I think I remember a recent interview where Barry talked about his Dad being in the business and pushing the boys and being quite critical/hard to please...very little praise from him..Andy was bullied at school and quit school at age 13, quite a critical age to quit school...some people get really addicted to drugs and can't stop no matter who they love or who loves them and I do agree he was shattered by his breakup and didn't seem to possess the coping skills to deal with it...I love his music and miss him but hope he is at peace and was saved!

Beri, the young blonde lady who spoke, is not Andy's sister but his neice, his older sister Leslie's daughter. She was living with Robin in England at the same time Andy was although I don't know why. Leslie remained in Australia and raised her family there.

Andy benefited directly from all the work the Bee Gees put in. He had an immediate ‘in’ and a ready-made audience, because of the Bee Gees. As well as a proven hit-maker in his corner in the form of Barry. He was also the pale imitation of Barry in looks and voice. He has it made. It was too easy for him, literally handed to him, and he knew it, and it really bothered him and affected his sense of worthiness, self-esteem, self-confidence. In fact, he was downright depressed.

Think Hugh did love his children, but he wasn't a father who provided well for his family. Yes, growing up they'd leave during the night for not paying rent before being evicted. Though he played a role careers, he did seem to live off their success until he passed in 1992, almost 4 yrs to the day after Andy.
