If you eat food fresh off the vine (or out of the shell, etc.) it will taste fresher than if you freeze it. If you simply heat food up it will it will taste fresher than if you nuke it. That is not to say that flash frozen food cannot taste fresh compared to normal frozen, or even taste better than unfrozen food that has been sitting in a fridge for days. Of course it will. That's not actually true. When king crab is in season, you can buy fresh/never frozen legs direct from Alaska and shipped overnight. It's significantly more expensive, but even if you live on the east coat US, you can get fresh king crab. Also, they don't need to flash freeze on the boat. And I doubt many commercial crab boats even have the capability to do so. They survive just fine in the live holding tanks.

It's crazy to me that Brennen didn't know that shrimp looked like that before it's peeled! (I'm half Filipino) In the Philippines, a lot of the time shrimp is served like that regularly. The white dust is from hard water. Aside from your regular dish pods there is liquid used for hard water stains that needs refilled every once in a while. That extra cleaning power really helps keep everything clean and shiny but easily forgotten about since it doesn't need refilled every time you do a load of dishes.

The only crab you want "fresh" is if it is still alive. Most crab is cooked and flash frozen sometimes on the boat, while they are still alive.
