- 2016 Indian psychological thriller about a young boy Gaurav obsessed with meeting his Idol, whom he revers, Aryan Khanna.
The biggest challenge was to create a separate persona of Gaurav who is in his mid 20's, portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan, himself, who reprises the role of Aryan Khanna too.
The idea was to ensure the character could pass off as the protagonist Aryan in a few scenes, But in reality he has very different facial features and is also shorter by 2.5 Inches and more leaner & athletically built.
Nearly 1325 VFX shots were used to achieve the facial transformation of SRK to play gaurav
Besides the above, also shrunk SRK by 2.5 inches to play the character of Gaurav. For continuity single frames, almost 1800 VFX shots were created to provide a benchmark for the rest of the department.
Also used contact sheets for bifurcating shots as per lensing which enabled us to ensure continuity in the face mech and body shrink throughout the movie, which was an essential requirement as per the director’s vision.
This was a landmark project in Indian Cinema; as such intricate facial transformation work hasn't been carried out at such a large scale anywhere in the world. The project was delivered in a record 11 months, with Visual effects almost spanning the entire 120 minutes runtime duration of the movie.
The fact that this much hard work was not appreciated by the audience really hurts. Shahrukh and Red Chillies team worked really hard for us! We let them down. The awards let Shahrukh down. I am still shocked how did he not get the best actor award for these roles. He was phenomenal as both.
Story was weak

@@anuragsuryawanshi3682 Story was pretty average, it seemed like more of a glorification of srk and less of a movie. The characterization is half baked, the plot, nothing, the story...... Its a fairy tale in a fairy world, its that bizarre.

Red chillies vfx is the best vfx company in asia. People who were laughing at the vfx in Raone are such stupid people. SRK is the only actor who tries to take risks. In the 90's SRK was the only actor who took risks with his movie choices. The roles in Darr and Baazigar were declined by many actors before it came to SRK. Actors back then thought it wouldn't be a safe choice if they played a villain at an early stage of their careers. SRK is at the peak of his career and at 50 he is taking risks which aamir and salman don't have courage to do.
When you make a film sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Raees is coming and everyone will get their answer.

What happened to we Indians?....we are rejecting movies made with such a hard work and welcoming lower IQ,script-less,zero talent movies like 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo'(just giving an example...m not a salman hater, not srk fan too)....we really need to improve our tastes.

Fun Fact: Red Chillies Entertainment/VFX founder is SRK.
We are unlucky and stupid that we made these movies flop. he's one of the actor who owns a VFX studio and make awesome content.
Moral is : Don't judge a movie by Actor or story. There is much more in a movie to be considered.

This was so brilliant. I couldn't stop watching it. Red Chillies you have done yourself proud with this movie. Hollywood may have the money but you have the talent.

Another reason why Fan didn't work was Piracy. When the film came out after a week i went to see the film in cinemas. But after some days i noticed the pirated versions of the movie playing around and it was in it's original print there was no CAMRip. The film was already in HD. This had affected the film

I heard such vfx for face was not even used in Hollywood before. If it's true then it's a pride moment for india. Srks red chillies have done an amazing work and have made proud to us at global level. But why didn't the vfx team won the best National award in that year?? I don't remember any movie of that year coming close to it in terms of vfx.

This is great, fantastic work! Can´t remember to see something like this in Hollywood were an actor getting transformed with VFX and prosthetics not only for few minutes but for more than the half movie!
nearly 200 crore worldwide for a movie with no heroine, no songs, no holiday release, and people say its a flop. salmans jai ho had songs, it was a holiday release and had a heroine, but only made 183 crore but people call that success, WTF?.
