- In this episode, we dive into my latest purchase - a Ferrari 355 with the legendary gated manual gearbox! It was the cheapest car for sale in the UK by a country mile, but as you can imagine, that comes with it's own challenges.
Join me as we explore this Italian icon, uncover its quirks, and start planning the restoration journey to bring it back to its former glory. From its screaming V8 to the timeless Pininfarina design, there’s a lot to love-and a lot to fix. Stay tuned for more updates as I take on this exciting project!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great comment dude!
Fiero GT.
😂😂
Probably the cheapest UK 355 was the one I helped my buddy purchase, ex Thruxton track experience car, lhd in yellow with over 200,000 klms on the clock, ran like a dream, wad of bills 2 inch thick, everything had been replaced on it over the years, we got it for £22k in around 2013 he doubled his money a few years later. As an aside the gearbox in the F1 and manual are exactly the same, so easy to convert.
You need to be a very brave man and have very big pockets to have an F355 just as a project car-a braver man than me. Hats off.
Haha - luckily the car came with many new parts and I can lean on friends in the trade for support 👍🏽
Hi Raj look forward seeing the finished Car. I've still got your old 355 and still love it.
Hey Paul, glad to hear that you still have and are enjoying my old 355F1 - that was an amazing car!
I drove on of these once on a track day many years ago - definitely the best sounding car I’ve ever driven ❤
Totally - especially with a Capristo or Tubi exhaust 🎶
speaking of manual gear box on these type of cars..i had the chance & privilege of driving a 599 with a 6 gated on a Monaco back road & hills....what a treat...the feeling of that V12 through that manual transmission is just amazing...just a complete different car & driving pleasure...
What a beautiful 355, just needed some love... when you finish restoring it ...i bet it will be way more valuable...is a gem, i'm new at the channel, looking forward for the next video
Thanks for watching 👍🏽
Awesome vid Raj, can’t wait to see the build
Thanks for watching 🙌🏼
Definitely the prettiest of the modern day Ferraris, if my numbers come in it’d be one of the first on my list along with a 246 Dino👌🏻
Couldn't agree more! I may not be the fastest Ferrari but definitelty is one of the best looking 👍🏽
One of my favourite F cars, second only to the F550 Maranello! Drove one in ‘97 and loved it. Good luck with the project 👍
I had a 1999 355 with the F1 transmission and loved it ! Very fast shifting...never jerky or clunky ! And the sound....so, so glorious !
An absolute gem of auto history. Love the 355....
Beautiful motors these, it’s one of last purest Ferrari I believe, hand built till they went electrically sophisticated with those fancy buttons on steering etc, this engine sings it’s like Ferraris version of vtec goodness, correctly said not the fastest thing compared to todays era but it’s the harmony and gradual power-band increase it’s definitely a drivers car, wow Carnt wait to watch all of these future episodes raj, the cars is in good hands! Congratulations on the purchase! Ohh and targa top so best of both worlds!, fazz!
Gorgeous car, really looking forward to watching the updates 😎
Thanks - already planning the next steps!
Toolkit - would be great to see the leather outside being restored if possible.
Really enjoyed this video. The excitement of acquiring a cool car and going through the service history and ING what a gift in all the new parts ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it! This should be a fun project 🙌🏼
@@rajsangha911 I'm. Looking forward to seeing it's unfoldment. 90's cars are 👌
raj nice one you definitely smashed this awesome video with another Ferrari 355 manual looks awesome cannot wait to see it running and driving but also raj's future modified and style for the new 2025 year
Thanks Darren, appreciate the support and feedback as always. This should be a fun project 👍🏽
New to the channel- great buy Raj! Quality video 👍🏻
Thanks for watching 🙌🏼
The wings have been modified to fit scudaria badges recessed in and not cheap stickers
Correct - well spotted 👍🏽
@@rajsangha911 in the wrong place too!
Yep.. noticed Rastorossa found a way to do this .. looking forward to seeing this progress.. with all the twist & turns 👍
Raj.. Greetings all the way from Laredo Texas USA. I'm new subscriber, very entertaining content! Amazing collection of cars Raj! One day I will own both model cars like yours. Keep up the great work and God bless you and your whole team
Thanks for the sub and appreciate the feedback. A lot more to come 👊🏼
Beautiful car!!! I like the F1 gearbox in the 355 so easy to use with faster gear changes, when you red line the F1 gearbox it changes gears itself apart from 5th to 6th.
The Spider doesn’t suffer like the coupe or gts with buttresses cracking and in the summer the spider is awesome.
Karl Verdi the Ferrari specialist in London for Ferraris
I've owned a 355 F1 for 7 years previously and did not gel with the F1 box at all. Each to their own I guess 🤷🏻♂️
@ The F1 box is like Marmite!!! You either love it or hate it…….looking forward to the restoration and the Capristo exhaust gonna sound awesome
IMO I'd much rather see a decent mileage on a car like this - it proves to me that the car has been decently used and not just sat broken and rotting for ages.
Totally - this one has been driven plenty but loved at the same time. Hopefully I can restore to its former glory!
Stunning car one of the best imo that car with a capristo exhaust is the best sounding car I have driven.
About time you got back in a Fezza! Front wings never had came with shields, they were stuck on stickers. 😂
Yes, I've been looking for a while. The final build year of 355's could be orderd from the factory with the Scuderia Shields 👍🏽
@@rajsangha911and 348/355 challenge cars…
They did come with shields as a factory option!!
New purchase is lovely , this is gonna be interesting. But old Frankenstein in the background is looking absolutely dynamite 👌🏻
Yes, the 355 should be a fun project. Project Frankenstein is progressing nicely too 👍🏽
Yes Raj, a most amazing purchase, one of the good looking old school Ferrari’s, can’t wait for this series to start on your channel.well done to you.🔥
You and me both! Should make for a fun project!
Big pockets needed. I was lucky to own a manual 25 yrs ago. It was and still is the worst car I've ever had and I've had a few cars in my lifetime. Undrivable in the wet poor quality unreliable etc. Engine makes up for rest of it but still wasn't that fast all those years ago and sedentary by today's standards. Good luck and look forward to your restoration
lol 😂
Bad experience
They're not that bad at all! I've owned a 355 F1 for 7 years previously and whilst I did not gel with the F1 box I actually still enjoyed driving the car and had zero issues! Agree they are not the quickest by moden standards but classic cars offer so much more!
Agreed, it's not that fast. It's the torque figure that lets it down. I owned a manual GTS back in 04/05 (P17GTS if still on that plate), but it drove beautifully once all warmed up. Best sounding car of all time for me (with Tubi and no cats, ahem!) and so pretty that my dad used to sit in my garage with it and have a cup of tea just taking in it's beauty! I miss that car.
I had a straight through exhaust and decatted sound was incredible also had a mild ecu upgrade raising limit to 9k. People in other cars used to drop their windows as I approached
@@davidhardman8891 Agreed they are not that fast and unfortunately none of them ever made the claimed 375bhp. They tend to make around 330bhp, hence why you see it struggle to beat the 300bhp Carrera RS in the drag race video clip.
Very cool project and look forward to seeing more of it congrats 👍
Appreciated 👍🏽
check the bloody fuel line and make sure its had the recall done, too many have gone up that way already, as alot shortcut the engine out that way, it rubs on the line and it goes up like the hindenberg
Thanks for advice - definitely will check the fuel lines
I have a 94 348 spider and I'm doing challenge parts into my car.
I'm following this build. Definitely needs a manual to put everything to torque.
Favourite car of all time. Subscribed
I just acquired one of these (a 96 spider) as a swap for my old BAC Mono.
You 💯 need to fit a Capristo, it’s indescribable! I took mine straight to Brands Hatch to give it a proper run❤ (although I did get black flagged for noise eventually, it’s in my channel 😂)
Oh and definitely check with Ferrari for the fuel line recall, despite having a good service history, mine appears to have missed it, so it’s going in to Ferrari Maranello in Egham after Christmas for the update (free of charge)
Ratarossa all over this LOL Just noticed the thumbnail 🤣🤣
Haha ... this should be a fun project!
Probably best sounding ferrari out there
No best has to have a V12
One of THE BEST looking Ferrari's ever made.
strange how Brits love the manuals and the rest of the world love autos
Great model, the only down side is that it is GTS, because its flex a lot
But can't wait to see your job on it🎉
Merry Christmas from Denmark.
GTS is that lovely bridge between the Berlinetta and the Spider (IMO) 🙌🏼
@rajsangha911 you have a point there it is also the Spider that Flex the most,
I'm just a hardcore manuel berlinetta man myself when it comes to Ferrari.
But all that matter is that its work for you, and no matter the version the 355 is a good platform,
With a great great engine.
Hope to see all the work you will make on it, work on cambelt and petrol hoses back on the engine is a must.
Raj you paid 1k...for every 1k mileage done on the car
Good luck with your new toy 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Steve - actually less than £1K per 1K of mileage, especially when you factor in the parts 😉
Regarding the front wings, side repeaters have been move back towards door and the shields are in front of repeater instead of directly above. How odd! :)
Cool channel! as soon as I clicked on your videos and saw 2 of my dream cars (red 964 and E30 m3) I had to sub. Gonna binge watch your videos over Christmas. One question though, why didn't you call the channel My GaRaj!
Thanks for the sub and appreciate the feedback. My GaRaj ... a bit cringey no 🤷🏻♂️?
Placement of the shields looks odd doesn't it? Very interested to see what it takes to get this thing up to scratch. Put a good set of headers and a Capristo/Tubei on it.
Gotta say, definitely look at if it has had the fuel rail recall done so it doesn't end up like Hoovie's. Love these cars, GTS is a keeper.
GoldenEye Onatopp spec if it was red on tan but this is maybe even better than that 😉
Those “badges” should not have been present on both wings! If they did then they should be right above the side blinkers and not beside them🤦🏾♂️🙈🙏🏿
Well done - you're spot on and they need to go!
I see this F355 is an early 2.7 motronic car but it has an airbag wheel from the later 5.2 motronic car. I see the SF shields are mounted a bit low next to the indicators or should I say side repeaters.
Spot on with all your points. Shields need to go and that steering wheel will be changed in due course too!
@@rajsangha911 since it being a gts, you definitely going to find some rust under those black Sill covers. The brass valve guides also pack up but from 1998 up to 1999 Ferrari kind of sorted the problem out but there were still some '98/'99 cars having valve guide failures. The headers always crack, OEM cats always pack up too(mainly because of high octane racing fuels) exhaust valves rattle too but some owners wire them up. Many other stuff to look out for but yeah😁😁
Amazing project car
Should be a fun project 🙌🏼
Punto side repeaters.😁Lovely project to have, good luck.
as for the wings, the shield is in the wrong spot. Also, this is a 1995 based on the motor and you couldn't get shielded fenders that year. They are about 3-4" too low. So either whoever did it was super uninformed or they did it before Ferrari started offering it for the 355 and they guessed the wrong location. I'd be suspect if those are real shields or copies. Also $50k in this market for a 6speed GTS with those miles is good, in some ways, it's a great price but in others, it's going to take a while to get this to a higher quality and 10's of thousands of dollars in parts and labor. Thats the tall toolbox which was 1995 only (also for the late 348) in the shape it's in with the missing spanner, it's at least $1000 pounds. If you have the repair can and the cigarette lighter light, add another $400 pounds.
I hope you have that right side gravel shield. They are maybe $800+ pounds for that one. Your's is only one year (1995 AGIP) and 6speed which is different than any other year or F1. Left side, is cheap. Most took off the right side to get to the jump post and never put it back on.
MR2 on the channel!
Is it the cheapest 355 in the country or the most expensive MR2 in the country 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
That Porsche is still beautiful.
Scuderia shields on the wings.
Yes, there is an issue with Shields 🤦🏻♂️
GaRaj®
You can have that 👌🏻
This is going to be a fun restoration series …
Watching this, I came with a thought, how abt a look a like restomod? I’d say a touch of modern on the inside, like a pagani interior with that manual yk?
You got a bargain!
Totally - hence why I couldn't walk away from this project!
Congratulations she’s a beauty ❤️😎
Thank you 👊🏼
993 looks great on non OEM rims
thanks buddy 👊🏼
The Shields are located in the wrong part of the wings.
Has it had the bronze valve guides changed for later steel replacements Raj? Any evidence the manifolds have been replaced?
Liked and subscribed! 🥳
Thanks for subbing!
Bag it🔥
Sacrilege
RAJ plate, lower it, wheels, paint, sort the dodgey shields. Bosh ! ❤
You make it sound so simple 🤣🤣
@rajsangha911 Have it done by the new year 😁
Hi Raj, are the indicators in the wrong place
Love that car
“I have a surprise for you!… More parts for my car!!!!” 😂
Still need more parts no doubt!
I have mazda 3 manual 2010. Corners likes it on rails.
You are gonna need a bigger bank account.....! Good luck! That said the car is in good condition and has been used which is vital.
Luckily I have businesses I can lean on for support 👌🏼
Nothing like a RARI!
Totally 😎
easy to convert an F1 to 6speed. you do need a couple parts that are easily (funny enough) sourced. Takes a few hours to convert. If you are pedantic then you also may replace the cluster and remove the flappy paddles but why? if these ever go back down to reasonable prices I'll pick up a 2nd one but it will be F1, maybe in yellow or blue, and GTS top as mine isn't any of those.
We need a cleaning video of this car
Its perfect for me the way it is
Not a lemon lol
Good car congrats
old bloke by me has one, same colour,he never uses it it stuck on his drive,
These cars need to be driven !
Must be selling plenty of stereos!!🤔
selling stereo's is just one part of the business - it all helps though 🙌🏼
@ don’t forget those extra lines!!
348s had F1 trans option
Odd comment about US and the miles, they are by the far the worst market for expecting Ferraris to have low miles. You have that the wrong way round
It's only what I've noticed - could be wrong though 🤷🏻♂️
@@rajsangha911 If you compare a UK car to a US car with the same miles the UK car would be potentially in worst shape due to the state of the roads and climate.
I knew it! Lovely car. Arguably the best Ferrari
Thank you 🙌🏼
You're missing a 10mm spanner
Ahh - I must have missed that! Let me check on ebay 😊
Cheap, or “project” 355’s only make sense if you’re able to do the jobs yourself… If not? You’re better off spending 30k more for a good one.
Anyway. Take the sill guards off and see the rust flowers poking through. I dare you!!! 😂
Luckily many parts were included with the car - plus I can lean on businesses in the trade for support 👍🏽
@ For you, I’m sure it’ll be an easier and more cost effective task. For average Joe, it’s a dangerous game!
I still can’t believe this channel is struggling for sub’s. I just don’t get-it. Perhaps you need to address your key words in the description. Just put “Lamborghini” in every title. 🤭
Attention!!!! Unfortunately, all petrol cars will soon be banned in the EU and the USA! In France there is a new law prohibiting combustion engine cars called SCHLABOUBVE and in Switzerland the HESCHLAVVO law! In the Scandinavian countries there will soon be a so-called SMORVERBIDEN law) for Germany there will probably be a federal exhaust gas ban ordinance from 2027.
This obsession with manuals, came over from the US. Since the majority there doesn’t know how to drive a manual, some guys feel very cool if the managed to do so. In Europe’s we grew up with manuals and Knowsley feels cool or special if he can drive with a stick. The hype is like the one of Dubai chocolate….
I love the pdk on my Porsche…
Rubbish, the obsession with manuals come form the fact that lots of people get great satisfaction out of operating a machine well. It just feels nice to use the feeling in your feet and hands to make a perfectly smooth gear-shift, simply pulling a paddle and letting a computer do the work is boring.
I've owned a 355 F1 for 7 years previously and did not gel with the F1 box at all. Each to their own I guess 🤷🏻♂️
What a weird and very wrong statement to make! Just because you don’t get why a manual is so special with your shite pdk you assume it has some foreign origin? Uk car culture has always been for manuals.
@@rajsangha911 Gotta admit that 1st gen flappy paddle boxes running on 25 year old software are practically incomparable to a modern double clutch box like a PDK. A 355 with a PDK box would be an absolute riot so much fun.
Way everthing you say is: me, i, mine, for me 🤦♂️
🤷🏻♂️
Gained a sub from the car alone
Appreciated 🙌🏼
That is one of the most beautiful Ferrari’s ever.
Totally 👍🏽
BULLSHIT... just ask Hoovie... he has bought ALL cheap cars on the Internet and restored them ! ;-)
Not in the UK though 🤷🏻♂️
Excellent work
Subbed to your channel
Keep up the good work
❤🫡
Thanks for the sub 👍🏽
Enzo is best looking ferrari
?
Or an F40... or an F50. Totally different price points compared to a 355 though!
… we all have our favourites, mine’s the 288 GTO.
