I've watch many videos on fixing stuff on cars..this is one of a very clear and very detailed step by steps explanation!!! And no garbage music behind. Great videos.👍👍👍
As a retired ASE Master Tech, this I can say is a very good video, lighting, explanation and correct use of terminology while point out weaker torque areas, thread locker, plus grease. Thank you for using "TORX" as many call it a "Star". First used on aircraft and military parts for decades, it is only the last dozen years or more, found it's way into automobiles. This type of fastener is misunderstood as it allows higher torque with a small foot print. One point for end user, take a bunch of photos at various stages if you are not familiar with these repairs. Keep small parts in plastic sandwich bags and drop a labeled card into the zip lock sack if you cannot finish that day. Like the video or subscribe so you can find it again. Excellent job and clearly spoken at good volume levels. Two thumbs up!!
Thank you for your straight forward, easy to follow video. I have a 2000 Chevy Express 3500 and this helped repair my shifting seat. For Chevy Express owners you can unbolt from the "stand" not the floor board which will save you removing 4 bolts. Everything else is the same.
I have this issue on my 2002 GMC Sierra 4 x 4. About two years ago I purchased a complete front seat kit for both passenger & drivers side. I completely forgot I bought this kit from you (remodeling my laundry room) but today I had the opportunity to perform the drivers side repair. It took about an hour and a half, I cleaned everything, installed your shims, and greased the worm gear/shaft before installing. Wow! this is like brand new! I cannot thank you enough. So happy! And no more clunking movement. The other noisy rattling thing I addressed was a 77 cent Dealer part......my brake pedal rattled under the dash area when going over a bumpy road. Turns out it was a plastic pivot insert that wore out. (You can tell by wiggling the brake pedal side to side). That took an hour or so. Between these two things I am rattle free to an extent!
Thank you Barry I ordered the parts as suggested. I received so much care in the envelope of shims. I appreciate the care that went into printing color copies. Thanking me for my business and a sheet of sandpaper. This install and repair was pretty easy and though it took me some time I have a great operating seat now with no back and forth. You save me money and hassle. Thank you
Just fixed c5 corvette seats today and i wish i had found this video first!! The kit i had was from a different web site and came with written directions which were terrible.. The procedure outlined was also slightly different then what was recommended in this video. For example the written directions said to thread the block 1/3's of the way where as you recommended putting it at the top of the gear(you were correct much easier). After i got to the second seat i was doing them in no time after watching these instructions. Some useful tips 1:) You DON'T have to remove the cable at all! The first 3 times i removed it but on the last track i i figured out you can do it with out removing the cable which shaved valuable time off the repair as well as some complexity. Simply manipulate the track forwards/backwards when needed to remove the gear and the caged housing block with nut and replace the shims, then put the gear back in again making sure the shims and everything clear the guides and line up. 2) The next big trick is when getting the gear to go into the guide have the chair's tracks/rails to be VERTICAL this will greatly assist in getting the gear back into the final guide as gravity will do its thing; press down the cable with your screwdriver to insert into gear then bolt every thing back up and your done. first rail took 2 hours on shitty instructions after watching this video was done in 1 hour both chairs and bolted every thing back up.
I searched for a fix on my loose seat problem and presto, my friend Barry had a RUclips solution with explicit directions. I've known Barry for several years and never knew he had healing powers. Great instructions and video! Do one on World Peace please !
$2.00 locking pliers from harbor freight fixed mine. set it and forget it....***UPDATE*** After more than a year I decided to buy your kit and do it. Easy job.. good little kit. Hardest part is trying to keep the cloth seat clean while taking apart the grimy, greasy worm gear and carrier.
thanks for keeping your video under 15 mins, america has been dumbed down but theres no reason for videos that take 10 times longer than the job itself
I had a similar problem with my 2008 Sebring Convertible. Original owner 100K miles ...still looks/runs like new. New seat tracks were $1400 !!!!!! Your shim solution made sense, so I solved my issue by making a tapered wedge out of a t handle small engine screwdriver/plug removal tool. I inserted the wedge at the front of the rail(between rail and seat frame). The seat now moves back and forth/up and down as it did when new ! No more rocking. !!!
Great video sir just completed the task on my o3 sierra I didn't opt to buy the shim kit I made my own by grinding down two sides of some washers I had laying around. I found your video very informative thank you.
I expect that the kit replacement shims are a softer, non-metallic material. It is estimated that this soft shim design accommodates the break away torque of the relatively slow, high torque motor(s) that drive the worm gear. Metallic washers (I assume you used) will likely add too much start up torque to the motor(s); motor(s) may wear out (fail). If this is the case, you are encouraged to make a video on replacing the motor(s).
Great video. Just replaced all my shims (bought from the place you suggested) on my sons 1999 Chevy Silverado and these directions are perfect and very easy to follow. Thank you so much!!!!!
The video was a huge help in fixing the seat in my 2000 Z71. The shims were ordered from the link you provided and arrived within a few days. The only thing you don’t mention in your video is that the shims may need to be sanded down to fit.
Thank you so much for the video! It worked wonders on my 2000 Durango. Apparently GM and Dodge shared same driver's seat slide design...Except for some other small differences, overall it was the same procedure! The only thing hard for me to find was a shime, so I ended up a sort of pipe into it. Thanks again, must have saved me at least $300 in labor
Great video. After watching, I was able to repair the seat tracks in a 2004 Ford Expedition. The Ford tracks are slightly different. You have to drill out the front track rivet to remove the worm gear follower. The worm gear follower and the metal block that mounts to the track are made of steel on the Ford. I considered making new plastic shims to fit, but the clearance from the center hole to the edge of the block did not allow for much material. Instead, I welded the threaded follower to the metal block. I was careful to center the follower on the holes in the block to avoid any potential wear. I fully greased the drive screw/gear and reassembled. I was able to use a button head bolt in place of the rivet. No more play in the tracks and my seat no longer shifts back and forth on braking and acceleration. Too bad the original design on these tracks was so poor. Not sure why they thought a plastic bushing was necessary in this application. The tracks would have outlasted the vehicle with a solid design.
Tom Hallberg do you have any pictures or more info about how you fixed the expedition? trying to re-shim mine and can't find any info on Google that's any good lol
I'm very excited at seeing this video! My Opel (a GM company) driver's seat moves a little when weight shifts in the car when cornering etc. Very distracting. I hope this will resolve it!
Excellent video, i have been driving this way for couple years now, pulled the seats out a couple of times did not fix drove me crazy! Thank you so much for the video on how to fix this problem thank goodness for you tube lol god bless.
Great video and will get the parts to fix mine. FYI....if you use the link, some cars it says the parts kit doesn't fit....like my 2008 Cadillac CTS.....does. I searched online and saw that Advance Auto sold the exact same Dorman kit with the same part number. So don't always believe the fitment section. The kit for my CTS is $25 at Advance Auto.....$18 on Amazon.
You didn’t mention it takes the strength of 10 men to loosen the torx bolts. ****update**** On my 2000 Silverado I had to cut the bolt off underneath the truck where it sticks out with a welded on nut. It was corroded. Will get a new bolt and lockwasher to replace it. Helpful video, thanks.
great video. Im working on a 2003 chevy that has the same torx bolts. The passenger side floor is holding water as did my 88 chevy. I hope I wont have to tear to much down as I did with the other one.
Good video. But in my Z71 the external torque bolt that holds the work gear in had a kind of round nut on the other end. Not a 15mm as yours did. How do I hold onto a round nut in place if where you used a boxed end of a combo wrench? I've literally taken the back rest completely off the seat frame and can't find anything that can hold it while I remove the bolt. Everything else was just as you've demonstrated. Thanks again
Really great video for my '03 dakota. Can you do one on pleasing the wife? Only one thing- the part marked with an L or R has a hump to tell which side is up, but i only got one shot in the video that indicated which was front and back, if it matters. If it doesn't, then thanks a million for the vid. Keep 'em coming.
I found that you do not need to remove the plastic side covers shown in the first minute of the video. Your boxed end 15mm wrench will fit through the inner part of the slide rail in a circle cut out specifically to get to that nut instead of from the front underside of the rail shown at time stamp 5:15. It saves a minute or two each seat not removing the plastic side covers.
This is a great video. My Nissan Altima Power Seat got stuck and needs the assembly change. Nissan Service guy is quoting an exorbitant cost. Is there a way to have this fixed in the LA/OC area. Auto upholstery guys are not willing to do this
Would this also work for a 2001 dodge Dakota. My driver seat sliding, all from breaking, accelerating I quite driving it cause it literally throws me off.
I've been going crazy dealing with this trying to find a good video and this ones very detailed which I luv but it almost makes it sound too intense for my enjoyment to finish in a days work Wow GM really didn't think that one part through when they did so well on the rest it makes me scratch my head why these would even break to begin with.
Good video, would you happen know how to move the power seat that does not operate? I have tested the switch and there is continuity on each of the posts.
My driver side car seat will only move back and fort in short movements before it stops. then I have to press the button again to get the seat going. What would cause that problem?
This is one of the most professional videos I have ever come across. Very clear and precise instructions. I don't have this exact problem yet with my seat, my problem is my power seat won't move backwards but it still moves in all other directions. Just wondering, what GM vehicle is shown in this video?
Thanks for your kind words! It's a 2000 Chevy Silverado. In your case, I suspect the switch is bad. That's where I would start anyway. You may be able to just take it apart and clean it with good results.
Barry Dorfman Yeah, I'm betting on the switch has gone bad since the motor still works in the forward direction. But I'm not going to replace it with a new switch because they cost almost $300 here in Canada. I hate power seats, it's not a matter of IF they're going to break, it's WHEN they're going to break. GM charges ridiculous prices for replacement power seat parts because they know they will break and customers will have no choice but to replace them. What I'm gonna do is unbolt the seat and remove it, disconnect the drive cable from the horizontal motor, and then use an electric drill to rotate the drive cable and worm gear to move the seat backwards. Once I get it all the way backwards, I gonna leave it in that position for good.
How many Motoros does it has for the back and forward.? In my 2008 Yukon the rails seems like the inner side rail and the outer side are not match, the 4 wholes where the seat is screed literally match a square But once is off I took it off, I see the rails are wrong, the outer rial is more front and the inner rail is more to the back.!
There is one motor in each seat. It is certainly possible for the rails to be out-of-sync if they are not in the right position when the cables attaching the rail screws to the motor are inserted.
@@BarryDorfman I tried moving all that mechanism.. seems like yes they not synchronized.. but still.. I kinda put them together and seems like the out is just moving while the inner is stuck. I dnt have those rails like you or wires, mine is a looong metal screw that has a metal frame attached as when it turns it makes the seat slide back or forward
I have a question. My 2001 Durango passenger seat slides front and back freely. The motor still raises and lowers the seat, but the front/back does nothing but runs the motor. Any suggestions on how to correct that problem? Originally, it did just rock back and forth, but the shop said they could not get the part to repair. Now it slides freely. So, could it have been the same part that has now completely disintegrated?
do you have a solution for the back of the the seat rattling? if I move the manual recliner handle it stops it for about 10 mins then it rattles and the back of the seat is loose again
great video ! I'm doing This on my c5, but I think I may have mixed up the blocks. do you remember if the block that has the L on it goes on the outside seat rail of the drivers Seat? thanks!
We have a 1998 Chevy van and our seat only has one screw on the block that holds the shim block. We can't get the shim block all the way out. Any suggestions??
Hey how can u move manually the seat from the back position to the front ! ? I have a Chevy Tahoe and the seat is stuck I wanna replace it but I can’t move the seat forward to be able to remove the driver back left side Screw
Frankyllovv _ one possibility would be to remove the two screws (on each side) shown at 4:24 in this video. They’re short so it would probably be doable on the outside rail. The inside would probably be a bear. If you take out the front seat-mount screws, you can probably lift the front of the seat by 1/2” or so which should help with access. Other than that, perhaps you just need to replace a fuse or whatever else it takes to get the motors working again. If it were easy, they wouldn’t pay you the big bucks!

I own a 1999 Silverado 1500 LS 3 door w/5.3L engine. I can not find my truck listed under any of the ebay sites for this GM sliding/loose seat repair. Anyone have any suggestions where I can purchase this? Thanks.
When I put in my info on ebay this is the response I get: This part is not compatible with 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab Pickup 3-Door 5.3L 5328CC 325Cu. In. V8 GAS OHV Naturally Aspirated.
@@peterharris8757 Ebay does not realize that there were 2 body styles in 1999. If you have the newer body style then call it a 2000 model. If its the older body style call it a 98 model.
This does not work for a 2000 GMC Yukon. My seats are completely different than what is shown here and in the directions that came with the kit. The kit directions say to reference page 13 for Yukons but the instructions only have 10 pages so there you go don't bother if you have a 2000 GMC Yukon.

My rear tilt adjust is inop, any instruction for that? Thanks for posting.
Sorry, I don't know anything about Dodge. You'd just have to take it apart to determine what has failed.
What would cause the reclining portion of a gm seat to wiggle slightly when set in position
I'm having the same problem any luck fixn
@@miguelhernandez1681 on the specific seat doing it,it uses a coil spring to keep tension on the seat back, somehow the spring is worn or something.
Would it work on the Chevy Captiva as well?
do you have a solution for the back of the the seat rattling? if I move the manual recliner handle it stops it for about 10 mins then it rattles and the back of the seat is loose again

That's wh thg I'm hear my c5 driver goes forward if you get to aggressive with the brakes.
Would this fix work for honda?
We have a 1998 Chevy van and our seat only has one screw on the block that holds the shim block. We can't get the shim block all the way out. Any suggestions??
Audry Tharp no no poo
Thanks.....Awesome video

My '07 Acadia doesn't slide back and forth but it rocks back and forth - any idea if your shims would help with my problem?
Very doubtful that my fix would help your situation. Sorry!
Is there any way to make my power seat in my 2005 Chevy move forward more
Nice job mann!!!!
good job thanks
THANKS FOR THIS INFO.
Does this also fix seats that stuck not moving forwards or backwards?
No, that would be something else.
What do you think could be the problem?
SEEKING ADVICE I JUST BROUGHT A 2001 CHJEVY BLAZER THE ELETRIC SEAT DRIVERS SIDE SORT OF ACTS ALIJKE A ROCKING CHAIR IF I LEAQN BACK. WHAT CAUSE? AND ADVICE BROKEN FRAME OR BOLT? Anyone locate the repair kit recently? Need for 2010 Chevrolet Malibu.
how does the spring g set up wrk on Manual slider 98 Silvetado
Andres, I have no idea. This video is about electric seat control.
I own a 1999 Silverado 1500 LS 3 door w/5.3L engine. I can not find my truck listed under any of the ebay sites for this GM sliding/loose seat repair. Anyone have any suggestions where I can purchase this? Thanks.
Looks like it's listed to me:
www.gmseatrepair.com/
When I put in my info on ebay this is the response I get: This part is not compatible with 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS Extended Cab Pickup 3-Door 5.3L 5328CC 325Cu. In. V8 GAS OHV Naturally Aspirated.
Peter, there is an email address and phone number on that page. Contact him (which is not me).
@@peterharris8757 Ebay does not realize that there were 2 body styles in 1999. If you have the newer body style then call it a 2000 model. If its the older body style call it a 98 model.
After adjusting seat the seat moves back into place does anyone know why
Anyone know if this works with chysler sebring ?
awesome video thank you :)
This does not work for a 2000 GMC Yukon. My seats are completely different than what is shown here and in the directions that came with the kit. The kit directions say to reference page 13 for Yukons but the instructions only have 10 pages so there you go don't bother if you have a 2000 GMC Yukon.
I suggest you contact the place you bought the kit from (which is not me…the author of the video).
Wish it were that easy for me. No shims and no bolts that allow me to remove the lead screw. Lead screw block is riveted to the rails
I need to change the mechinsm itself, rite behind plastic on seat side
Dorman now makes a kit for this.
Part #?
Great Video !! Thank You
