Agreed, they can start forgoing the annoying led lights outside so real campers arent bothered by the clueless campers and put useful items in Like softstarts.
It’s all about power management. I run two a/c units on 30 amp all of the time with no soft starts. Do they work? Sure they do but you really don’t need them. What they don’t tell you is if you are running the a/c units on a 30 amp and you try to use the microwave, hot water on electric or a hair dryer it still will trip the breaker.
I saw this item on the Wandering Weekends channel. I got excited because I was planning on installing soft starts on my AC Units individually. So when I saw this I was WOO HOO. However, I bought this 30 AMP soft start up surge protector unit, and it's a huge let down. For starters, I have a residential fridge (no propane option). The thing about this "Soft Start Up" unit is, that it regulates the draw of everything in your camper. I run a box fan to help circulation of air, and wouldn't ya know, after plugging the soft start in and going through the steps, with my fridge, and the box fan and 1 AC, you can literally watch the box fan slow down and the blow fan on my AC (even though set on high) was blowing at "low" speed. Using the App, I tried turning everything in the camper off and just ran the fridge (no option to turn that off) and the AC and just those 2 my amp draw was hovering between 26 and 28. So not a lot of wiggle room there for other things. I'm getting better results with a 30 to 50 dog bone with a normal surge protector. Long story short, if you have a 50 amp RV with a Residential Fridge, this may not be the perfect option for you. I can see a huge benefit for electric/propane fridge rigs. So with the discount from WW channel I paid 600 bucks for something I probably won't use unless I'm mooch docking.
Or running your ac on the generator, then the ac mounted one would work better. I don’t have the option of unplugging my power supply and changing input like most rv’s, I have a 2014 Leisure Travel Van.
I could see that useful for our house connection which right now is on a 20A until we install a 30A dedicated line. However, it's a very pricey item which pretty much puts a complete stop, we already have a Hughes Power watchdog protecting the RV so we don't need that feature.

When we first started going through Alabama Kentucky and southern Indiana we thought we were going to die. It was record heat and oh my goodness. We’ll have to look into this. Did you come to Northern Michigan? the top of Michigan? Across the Mackinac bridge? (The bridge is listed in the world's top 10 scariest bridges to cross) because it is designed to swing up to 10 feet in either direction. (If afraid to cross the bridge, authority has people on stand by to drive your vehicle to the other side for you. The bridge does shut down if max wind is reached, a accident happens or falling ice from the cables in winter

I'm thinking that this is only needed if you only have access to 30 amp service and want to run two a/c units, or 15-20 amp service and want to run one a/c. Right?
@@CollinsRoadTheatres I agree with your logic, but if I’m spending that much money being able to have access to the surge protection and power usage info available in the app no matter what size circuit I’m plugged into is an added bonus. Then I don’t have to spend the money to buy some other devices to have these features all of the time.
How do you keep this expensive unit from "walking away" at a campground? It should have some type of alarm that works with your cell phone, or even just a hidden switch on the unit, that goes off if it is pulled away from the power source without turning the alarm off first.
I already have a hughes watchdog installed on my rv. Would they interfere with each other. Do the sell just the soft start without the surge protector?
It would be a good idea to get enough solar to run an AC. Even a bring along swamp cooler if cost is very critical. We took our granddaughter camping at our local state park once and it was a holiday weekend which is rare for us to go on as we avoid them. BUT you know, granddaughter was about 6 yrs old and wanted to go... so we did. We got a place and it was 113F . We went for an after dinner walk and figured we could turn on the generator and cool off when we got back around 8pm still light. A woman down the hill started freaking out and called the ranger... turns out generators in THAT park are off at 8 not 10. Soooo it was very hot. Opening all the windows didn't help as the trailer had absorbed the heat and it was radiating off the walls, ceiling etc. So it was one hot night. Fortunately we lived about 15 minutes away- so in the morning we left. Too hot for no cooling in a trailer. For the last 2 years it only gets to about 70 at the coolest in the early morning anymore. Used to cool down to the 50's at least around 6am.
Gawd - THATs a humongous trailer!! I’ve been interested in the SoftStarts and surge protectors. Now : we need a new better answer to noisy RV air conditioners

I had no idea others have issues requiring power management when hooked up to shore power. My Jayco Class C has no issues running two A/Cs and everything inside when on shorepower. I am interested in the softstart to run an A/C on solar and such.....
The point of the soft start is to run 2 ac on 30 amp service so why are people saying you need to make a 50 amp one. If you have 50 amp service you would not need soft start.
Hey Larry, not sure about the comparison, but this is from their FAQ: Is The SoftStartUp Compatible With A Power WatchDog? Yes! Our engineers’ testing the SSUP together with Power WatchDogs both upstream and downstream and they reported no compatibility issues.
I've tried it multiple times with no luck. Different places and pedestals, including my dedicated 30 AMPS circuit at home and every single time I tried it, the SoftstartRV failed to start the second AC. While having only the 15K btu AC and drawing 16 amps, according to the App, I could not turn the 13K btu at all. In my case, it did not work for me. My two ACs are GE
Yes I did and they are saying battery charger amp draw is the one causing the problem. One AC is drawing 16 amps and the other 12, and most likely the charger is drawing 6-8 amps. This exceeds the 30 amps rating.
They (Engineer) said this was tested in February and worked great … I’m saying not so much in 83 degrees in Summer. This is a $599 dud. Will be returning expecting full refund. Maybe another couple years and they’ll have it figured out.
It's to bad It's only 30 amp which doesn't help much when you are a 50 amp RV. Yes I know you can use it with your 50 Amp Rv but I like having that 50 amp available and this 30 Amp soft start is great and all. But why did they not also make one for 50 amp?

I will make my own soft start before I spend $600 on this soft start. Also the fear factor of power surge does not work for me in your sales pitch. Hey I'm just being honest.
A line conditioner and surge protector been known about for many years - just most people didn't know as the spark-a-mad-bitches don't talk much about it as it saves on equipment lost ( reduced green in the pockets ).... Like I said- old information... Their are a few another tricks that can save you big money... My job isn't to put repairmen out of business - it's your job to educate yourself and if saving money is key to your enjoyment, you will find out what works...
Great idea however after 3 retries I returned it for a refund. Just didn't work for me. The tech service is fantastic. I wanted it to work it just didn't.
Can we ask the company for $600 why is there no way to put a lock onto the unit like I can my progressive EMS? A theif can swipe this and be gone with it before you know it 🤷♂️
$899.00! Not on sale or $300 off right now! Who in the hell determines the price! Idk if they are bat sh*t crazy! Or smart as sh*t! Because people are buying them! I would love, love, love to have one of these. But I absolutely refuse to pay that much for an item that cost probably ⅛th-¼ of that cost to make. I'll wait for someone to make one of these thats not greedy.
I am trying to return this. On my rig, every time the AC starts, the softstartup causes the EMS to trip. It achieves its current in rush magic by interrupting the voltage, causing havoc with my electronics. The built in soft start is after the EMS, while this is in front of it.
I see people say things like this when they’re driving a $300,000 class a or $180,000 trailer + $100,000 dually pick up truck. So they can afford hundreds of thousands of dollars in a camper but can’t find 600 bucks for an important accessory?
Way too expensive for what it is. Even with their $300 off it's way overpriced. I'd be smiling too if they gave me one, but I sure wouldn't spend $600 to $900 for it.

Nice convenient for plugging in; but for solar camping you still need an installed soft start if you plan on running your a/c on your solar sytem.

I'm thinking that this is only needed if you only have access to 30 amp service and want to run two a/c units, or 15-20 amp service and want to run one a/c. Right?
@@CollinsRoadTheatres I agree with your logic, but if I’m spending that much money being able to have access to the surge protection and power usage info available in the app no matter what size circuit I’m plugged into is an added bonus. Then I don’t have to spend the money to buy some other devices to have these features all of the time.

How do you keep this expensive unit from "walking away" at a campground? It should have some type of alarm that works with your cell phone, or even just a hidden switch on the unit, that goes off if it is pulled away from the power source without turning the alarm off first.

It would be a good idea to get enough solar to run an AC. Even a bring along swamp cooler if cost is very critical. We took our granddaughter camping at our local state park once and it was a holiday weekend which is rare for us to go on as we avoid them. BUT you know, granddaughter was about 6 yrs old and wanted to go... so we did.
We got a place and it was 113F . We went for an after dinner walk and figured we could turn on the generator and cool off when we got back around 8pm still light.
A woman down the hill started freaking out and called the ranger... turns out generators in THAT park are off at 8 not 10. Soooo it was very hot. Opening all the windows didn't help as the trailer had absorbed the heat and it was radiating off the walls, ceiling etc. So it was one hot night. Fortunately we lived about 15 minutes away- so in the morning we left. Too hot for no cooling in a trailer.
For the last 2 years it only gets to about 70 at the coolest in the early morning anymore. Used to cool down to the 50's at least around 6am.

I had no idea others have issues requiring power management when hooked up to shore power. My Jayco Class C has no issues running two A/Cs and everything inside when on shorepower. I am interested in the softstart to run an A/C on solar and such.....

The point of the soft start is to run 2 ac on 30 amp service so why are people saying you need to make a 50 amp one. If you have 50 amp service you would not need soft start.
Because we still trip a 50 amp circuit with our large RV during heavy loads.

I contacted SoftStartup and asked if a 50 amp device is in the works. They said yes for early 2023.
My watch dog surge protector will do that but it’s not a soft start not bad
Isn't 30 Amp service 30amps each leg? 60 amps total. Usually front rv will be on one leg and the back on the other leg.

That's just a tiny bit more than two SoftStartRV that have to be hardwired so it is a bargain if you have two ACs in your RV.

I've tried it multiple times with no luck. Different places and pedestals, including my dedicated 30 AMPS circuit at home and every single time I tried it, the SoftstartRV failed to start the second AC. While having only the 15K btu AC and drawing 16 amps, according to the App, I could not turn the 13K btu at all. In my case, it did not work for me. My two ACs are GE

Yes I did and they are saying battery charger amp draw is the one causing the problem. One AC is drawing 16 amps and the other 12, and most likely the charger is drawing 6-8 amps. This exceeds the 30 amps rating.
Would love it if they made it for a 15 amp home plug so you could run ac while moochdocking. And you’d still need soft start for solar use.
They do. When you order it, it comes with a 15 amp adapter

But where you need it most, when running on the onboard generator, it does nothing where the units that wire into the A/C will.
When its not on sale it $900 its cheaper to buy 2 or 3 for $270 soft start rv units
But no installation and you can take it with you!

They (Engineer) said this was tested in February and worked great … I’m saying not so much in 83 degrees in Summer. This is a $599 dud. Will be returning expecting full refund. Maybe another couple years and they’ll have it figured out.

It's to bad It's only 30 amp which doesn't help much when you are a 50 amp RV. Yes I know you can use it with your 50 Amp Rv but I like having that 50 amp available and this 30 Amp soft start is great and all. But why did they not also make one for 50 amp?
Right, I know there is some discussion about a 50 amp version coming out next year.
You can buy a product that will cycle power between two A/C’s so you can operate off 30A

I will make my own soft start before I spend $600 on this soft start. Also the fear factor of power surge does not work for me in your sales pitch. Hey I'm just being honest.

Not at $600 on sale. I'd rather have 2 small generator (champion 2500 dual fuel). Like the idea, not the price point.
Generators are not always allowed where there is shore power.
A line conditioner and surge protector been known about for many years - just most people didn't know as the spark-a-mad-bitches don't talk much about it as it saves on equipment lost ( reduced green in the pockets )....

Their are a few another tricks that can save you big money...
My job isn't to put repairmen out of business - it's your job to educate yourself and if saving money is key to your enjoyment, you will find out what works...
Great idea however after 3 retries I returned it for a refund. Just didn't work for me. The tech service is fantastic. I wanted it to work it just didn't.

I am trying to return this. On my rig, every time the AC starts, the softstartup causes the EMS to trip. It achieves its current in rush magic by interrupting the voltage, causing havoc with my electronics. The built in soft start is after the EMS, while this is in front of it.
I personally bought one of these and installed and it made no difference. Overpriced junk

Way too expensive for what it is. Even with their $300 off it's way overpriced. I'd be smiling too if they gave me one, but I sure wouldn't spend $600 to $900 for it.
